  • What are the fundamental differences between the homoeroticism in Ancient Greece, and the nature of homosexuality today?

I am only interested in a scholarly answer, so please do not waste both our times with political-activist platitudes or religious-crusader sanctimoniousness.

  • I Need to Reboot a Laptop!!...?

A friend of mine asked for my help to fix his laptop:

    1) The laptop is a Samsung Series 7 Chronos (NP700Z5C-S02UB.)

    2) He did not receive any external recovery media disk when he bought it used.

The problem is that the computer will only display the boot menu. It does give the option to reboot from the CD-DVD drive, but again the owner does not possess the disk. So far, in my search for support from the Samsung website, they only provided me with two impossible options:

    1) Use the internal system recovery program to reboot to a previous saving point (inaccessible.)

    2) Use the external recovery media disk (not provided during purchase.)

I've heard that one could download the essential recovery media online onto a thumb drive, but I've failed to locate such a download. If anyone could find this for me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

  • When and how was arranged marriage replaced with romance and personal decision in Western cultures?

I'm interested in knowing how the cultural value of marriage shifted in Europe, from economic and diplomatic priority for the benefit of the family, to the idea of romance and personal liberty?

  • Guys: In desperate need of advice...?

I found myself in a very unusual, but very fortunate situation...

I was at a party, and I noticed three very beautiful ladies having a wild time on the dance floor. I'm not usually one to be so bold as to approach a strange woman, but the collective gorgeousness of this sexy triad had be running on full instinct... all inhibitions be damned.

Much to my amazement, neither one of the three girls ignored me, rejected me, or moved away from me as I approached them. In fact, all three began to dance wildly with me the whole time. At first, it seemed good-natured and just innocently joking around, but something synchronistic began to occur, and the four of us were swept up in some serious, but subtly sexual rhythmic motion.

After an hour of dancing, We headed towards the bar for some refills and inquisitive conversation. Unbelievably, all three were single, flirtatious, and actually had given me their phone numbers.

I am lost for words... I leave it up to you fine gentlemen to decide which one I should call above all... or should I dare ALL THREE?

  • Question about AIDS and religious persecution.....?

If you believe that AIDS is a punishment from an angry god for committing homosexuality, then please answer the following questions:

    1) How come when two gay men, who were not previously infected with the AIDS virus, don't suddenly acquire it after performing sodomy with each other?

    2) Why is AIDS as easily transferable between two heterosexual partners as their gay counterparts, so long as blood or semen is exchanged?

    3) Why would god wait to punish homosexuals with the AIDS virus until the late 1970's, when he could have just as easily made his point by infecting Ancient Greece some 2500 years prior?

  • Attitudes towards male sexuality...?

Would you consider yourself the kind of person that:

    A) believes that a man can love a woman for her mind and soul, AND lust for her body simultaneously.

    B) believes that a man can or should only engage in one OR the other. (love is good, lust is bad.)

    C) an alternative, yet relevant perspective I haven't yet thought of. (please detail.)

  • Gee, I wonder which ideologues abuse free speech the most here at Yahoo! Answers?...?

I debate ultra-conservatives and creationists, and have it turn rather ugly, but I'll respect both groups for not lowering themselves to petty censorship when my ideas and comments offends them.

But, I find that my comments are, in fact, reported on an almost daily basis, and they are typically innocuous compared to other comments made to the right-wingers and bible-thumpers...

So, who is this dogmatic clan that seeks the silencing intervention from their moderator white-knights whenever I type out anything that might provoke the slightest hurt of their precious feelings?

    Would anyone have a clue?

(It's usually a question or comment I posted in the Gender Studies category, if that helps.)

  • Feminists: Y U NO Sense of Humor?

Do you understand that you will not be taken seriously by a majority consensus so long as you need a feinting couch and a white-knight administrator every time you read something you don't like?

Shall you report this question as offensive too, and subsequently be the butt of your own joke, you censoring crybabies?

  • Feminists: Riddle Me This...?

When a feminist tells me "Don't assume I cook!," and then she tells me "I don't need a man, for I am independent,!" doesn't she need basic cooking skills to survive on her own?

  • What are your opinions concerning this article?

I just stumbled upon a gem of an opinion piece, written by a lovely and rational rad-fem named "witchwind," titled, "PIV is always rape, OK?"

This article explains how "Penis-in-Vagina" ( or "coitus" for our more sane kinfolk) should always be considered an act of rape, how the act itself is "unnatural," and there has never been a woman who wanted to engage in PIV, nor enjoyed it, without being "brainwashed" by the PAW-TREE-ARE-KEY!

Please, read this article (at least for my delight and amusement, if not your own) then comment on such progressive brilliance:

  • When is Self-Defense Permitted?

I would like to reserve this question for those who truly believe that a man has absolutely NO RIGHT to physically strike a woman under any circumstance.

Scenario: If a woman initially assaults a man with a life-threatening melee instrument (lead pipe, knife, sword, etc) or unarmed if she is well-trained in any martial art, how should that man respond if flight is not an option?

  • Would you know the mathematical formula?

Let's say that I was to buy one widget per day for 50 days. This widget cost me $100.00 the first day, then increased by 5 dollars daily (100, 105, 110, 115, etc.) What formula would I use to quickly figure out the total cost?

  • Do you think the "Report Abuse" option is being abused?

Personally, I think that three types of people press that annoying button.

    1) Social Justice warriors who didn't approve of contrary opinion or logical threats to their dogmatism.

    2) Hypersensitive jellyfish who respond to criticism and humor at their expense with the same psychic trauma that an actual death of a loved one would induce.

    3) Trolls. Plain and simple.

  • What socially-ordained rewards and perks do American males distinctly have over women?

I ask this because I've recently been bombarded with accusations from several women that the American Western society favors males over females, but I can't honestly think of one social advantage, albeit biological ones.

  • Concerning Massachusetts tenant laws and responsibilities...?

In a scenario where two non-married tenants are living under a contracted lease in an apartment in Massachusetts, then one moved out before her contract was up while still owing back-rent, if this debtor tenant was legally considered her parents' financial dependent, who would be responsible for what she owed... the parents or the remaining tenant under the lease? Both her parents are legal residents of Vermont, if this makes any difference.
