  • HVAC Question - two of my clients have had their air handler pan overflow from condensation. It's winter?!?

I had thought the only way condensation occurs is if the AC is running but not the furnace. The condensation lines on 2 properties are frozen outside the house given the cold weather and that caused the pan to back up and overflow. To make things worse, the system didn't cut off because the furnace is not tied into the condensation pan alarm. What the heck is going on???

  • Crawlspace issues: The insulation everywhere is soaking wet and dripping.?

There are many small puddles on top of the vapor barrier, the ducts are sweating water and dripping like crazy and there are many small puddles. There are no leaking pipes, no water on the sub-floor above and the insulation paper is dry, water appears to be going up into the insulation. 100% humidity in the crawl as well.

We are baffled since this is a new HVAC system and they keep telling us nothing is wrong...

Any ideas? Mold is setting in everywhere!

  • What is the going rate for a housecleaner?

We have a 2700 square foot home and we're looking for someone to come in every other week to clean the bathrooms, kitchen, sweep/swiffer, vacuum, wipe down all surfaces and do just a light cleaning. Trying to get an idea on what the normal amount for this would be.

  • Can a pickup bed cover and ladder racks co-exist?

Just got a Ford 150 w/ 6.5' bed. Bought a Tonno pro loroll cover. Worried that the standard ladder racks will take up the space needed to install that cover. Is there a special type of ladder rack needed?

  • My 7 year old daughter has stomach pains only at night.?

Nearly every night, my 7 year old daughter complains that her stomach hurts and she feels like she is going to throw up; also feels like she needs to have a bowl movement. Twice she did throw up. We're baffled because this only happens about 20 minutes after she goes to bed. We feel our kids very healthy food, rarely any dairy.

    Any ideas?!

  • Non-Theists: How do I handle this situation with my 8 year old daughter?

Our next door neighbor's daughter who is 10 had a sleep over with my daughter. All night long she apparently told my daughter how much fun her church is... Next Level Church which rents space in a school gym and is non-denominational. (They basically let you believe whatever you want as long as you give them money).

This girl said she gets points and prizes for getting other kids to go to the church and uses the best multilevel-marketing and religious techniques to guilt trip my daughter to go which is putting a wedge between me and my daughter. This church also lists on their website that they are the church that has the children bring the adults. TOTAL SCAM from what I can see. I should add that they did a campaign of giving out shot glasses at bars with the words "Give Us a Shot" on it.

I am a former theist of 32 years and have read and fully understand the bible and it is nothing but a book of fairy tales, violence and not a book of morality. Churches exist to make money and no one's views can change this... My wife is agnostic and will not get involved in this and my other daughter 7 has a gift of changing the conversation when religion comes up and she shows respect toward their beliefs.

My question is, how to do explain to my daughter that this church is not for us and have her understand? It's a business that uses fairy tales and fun to recruit members and make money.

Again, please don't try to convince me that I need to believe. I cannot force myself to believe in invisible magic people with super powers and there is no proof they exist. Do not want to pass on dark age superstition to my children when I can simply teach them what is right and wrong.

  • Question regarding repairs on HVAC system.?

Our condensation line got clogged causing water to back up into the main duct in the attic. Drip pan was almost full and water was pouring out of the old style cardboard master ducts. Obviously we need to replace those main ducts. What else needs to happen? There was water pouring out of the main box that has a lot of wires on its side. We have an HVAC guy but want to be a little more educated on this and not just accept what he says.

  • If time travel were possible, what would happen if we traveled back before the Big Bang?

This is of course a theoretical question. Since time is believed to have been created at the moment of the Big Bang, lets assume the person going back in time was some how protected by the explosion/radiation. Would the person going back in time just stop at that point since nothing exists prior? Having a hard to wrapping my head around this one.

  • How is God any different than an abusive parent?

Would you love your dad if he threatened to torture you if you didn't?

This is not a very healthy relationship. I don't see any difference between an abusive parent and god demanding he be worshiped or you will burn in hell of all eternity. According to the bible, god asks his followers to kill non-believers... this would be like your dad telling your brother to kill you if you don't love him.

If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, “Let us go and worship other gods” (gods that neither you nor your ancestors have known, 7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8 do not yield to them or listen to them. Show them no pity. Do not spare them or shield them. 9 You must certainly put them to death. Your hand must be the first in putting them to death, and then the hands of all the people. 10 Stone them to death, because they tried to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 11 Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and no one among you will do such an evil thing again.

QUESTION IS: How is god different than an abusive parent?

  • Trying to find the bible verse regarding Jesus telling his followers to kill non-believers... anyone?

I recall a verse that Jesus said bring the non-believer before me and kill them in my Presence or something like that. I seriously doubt any Christians read that part of the bible. Any atheists have that verse handy?

  • Question about thanking God for the food he provides?

This has bothered me for a long time. All the religious people I know thank god prior to eating a meal. They usually say, "thank you lord for this food you provided us...". Clearly the food was purchased by the people eating it and that money was earned by them through hard work.

My question is, if a poor family does not have money for food and goes hungry, can we blame God for that? How can God get credit for helping one family and not take blame for not helping another?

*** Please don't say there is no god. I know this since I am an atheist now. Just interested in how a religious person can rationalize this ***

  • Are home inspectors legally able to diagnosis electrical issues?

I am not a fan of home inspectors since they seem to be just generalists who point out the obvious stuff any home owner could spot. I wonder if it is even legal for them to identify specific electrical issues that don't meet code and suggest what repairs would be needed. Any ideas?

  • Christians: Is it true you get super powers when you die?

From what I recall when I went to church, once the soul is free from the body you can do the following:

    * Fly (since you get wings if you are good)

    * Teleportation - about to just pop into the world anywhere at any time. Not sure you'd need flying.

    * Read minds - people can just think and you hear them.

    * Invincibility - nothing can hurt you ever.

    * Immortality - exist for all eternity.

    * Perfection - all the problems you had on earth are magically gone including mental illness.

    * Talk to god - God suddenly is available for conversations.

Probably a lot more too. Makes one look forward to death.

  • Why do religious people believe in an infinite soul and can't fathom an infinite universe?

I have always been baffled by the religious people of the world who believe our souls will last forever and ever, all eternity either in heaven or hell BUT if you try and visualize the universe as being infinite in all directions, no one can picture this.

Seems to me that the dead is dead and there is nothing more (just like before we were born).

Why can't the religious community just accept our lives are finite and there is nothing more?

  • Christians, how do you explain this?

My 3 year old cousin has Leukemia (the worst kind). His parents had him baptized at birth, went to church every Sunday since and prior to his birth. They have done everything right as good Christians, following Jesus's teachings and they also eat very healthy, avoid fast food and the family regularly exercises.

This perfect little child gets cancer and may not make it. They pray and pray like crazy and things keep getting worse.

My question is this. If there was a god, why would He allow an innocent little child get cancer especially when they are devout followers. Since God created everything, didn't he also create cancer and all other diseases? Is this some kind of crazy test like in the book of Job?

I am an atheist (former Christian). I do not go to church and I teach my young children to value life since this is all we have, there is no god. My family is healthy and my kids, my wife and I rarely get sick. Seems if there was a god, He would punish me and my family.

    Help me understand your logic.

  • Could there have been life on Earth prior to the collision that formed the current Earth and Moon?

It's a popular theory that another planet, Orpheus, crashed into a much smaller Earth billions of years ago forming the Earth with a large metal core and our moon. Could life have formed on Earth prior to this collision? Even more interesting... could any evidence exist on the moon?

  • Christians: Why don't you believe in Santa Claus?

Your parents told you he existed when you were a kid just like they told you about God. What made you stop believing?
