  • how to date a charm bracelet?

Anyone know how to date a charm bracelet when there are no markings? The bracelet is made of identical charms - though no obvious signs of mass production. It is light - maybe tin with a gold coating or maybe brass. The background of the charms appears to be painted. I originally thought enamal but after holding it a few times it appears to be fading - perhaps oil paint? The links of the bracelet are all individually made but clearly by someone who knew what they were doing. Any ideas?

  • Why is it so expensive to get film processed now?

It used to be 1/3 of the cost to get film processed than it is now. I used to process the film and back then the stores were still making a killing off the mark up. So did they just jack up the prices because they can?

  • Why do you lose your edge when you get out of school? How do you get it back?

So I was smart in high-school. I mean really smart. But college was not an option for me. So I have been working for the last 15 years. I am just so bored! I want more from my life, I want to go back to school. I have no idea how I will financially manage it. But even if I could, at this point it feels like I would have so much catching up to do.

It's like the lightbulb has gone off. How do I turn it back on???

  • Does anyone know anything about the Mayan 2012 prophesy?

I know it is totally crazy. But in the back of my head I just can't seem to explain how they "guessed" a date that just happens to correlate perfectly with the Celtic date of the winter Solstice when our calendar has been totally revamped in the meantime.

Everything in me wants to say that it is totally crazy but I can't get past the coincidence about the dates.

  • When to start babies on food? (Please be nice!!)?

I am curious about why some mothers are wanting to wait REALLY long to start their kids on cereal and baby foods. But I don't want to start another argument. So if you have a polite opinion please share.

There seems to be a whole lot of confusion on this subject, I wanted to put out some important articles to read. Since I spent the time to find them. LOL. (anouther thread was very heated -- and deleted -- please be nice!)

Here are some general articles -- BUT it depends on the individual child which is why you should discuss with their pediatrician and read up on it. :)

Mayo Clinic "For babies younger than age 4 months, also avoid home-prepared or canned spinach, beets, turnips and collard greens, which may contain high levels of potentially harmful compounds from soil (nitrates). If your drinking water comes from a private well, consider having it checked for nitrates." ( I don't know why it wouldn't copy this page link)

  • What was the name of this book?

I know that this is a huge longshot, but does anyone have any idea what book this is?

It is probably around 20 years old and I think it was by a Sci-Fi author who had done a bunch of books.

The book was about like if an Apocalypse had happened and almost all of humanity was gone and then decades and decades later the few survivors had gone back to Indian like ways. It was about this boy who lived like an indian and for whatever reason was exiled from his tribe. So he sets out walking and stumbles upon a deserted city. He described the ruins not in terms we would use but like someone who had no clue what it was. He was shocked at the black river with big metal things on them. (highways) and stuff like that. I don't remember the ending.

I know it is probably a total longshot but I really liked it or at least the first half I was able to read. I want my daughter to read it. Thanks!!!!

  • Why hasn't the media (or anyone) covered the Rio summit?

The international agreement that was made in Rio - supported by Obama and signed by Hilary Clinton is drastic and very scary. No matter which side of the isle you are on. So why has no one covered any of it? Foreign media has, of course. I just don't get what is wrong with American media. Are we so stupid that they think we will not understand? Or does the chick with the fake 3 boobs from the new Total Recall movie really just make so much more money than an article on the massive transfer of wealth would?

  • Should I allow my child in choir?

My daughter is going into 5th grade and has the option to sign up for band and/or choir. She really wants to do both and we have already agreed to do band - which will already be double or triple hard for her than most kids.

Here is the problem with choir ---- She has considerable severe hearing loss in both ears and even with her hearing aids she is only brought up to 70-75% of normal hearing. SO as you can imagine she is totally tone-deaf and always off pitch. She loves to sing but it just seems like I would be setting her up to be made fun of by letting her do the choir when I know she will have such a difficult time with it. Girls (and boys) can be so mean at this age.

As it is - she is already going to have her hands full trying to deal with the band. -- Her hearing specialist said that she will have to go off of finger movements and other ques. Basically, its very possible to play an instrument but it takes more time and patience. (for all of us)

But she is so mad at me for saying NO. I feel so bad - I just want to let her be a normal kid.

  • What is the best way to teach a child sign language?

We do not have any schools around (or even recreational classes) available for children.

I am looking for my daughter (10, severe hearing loss) and myself to learn complete ASL. My daughter seems to be losing the ability to read lips. Maybe it is just her age and not paying attention but I really want her to learn ASL as a backup.

  • Spine / Pain management?? Help Please!!!?

If anyone has direct experience with spine / pain management please I am desperate!

I have several things going on with my spine causing SEVERE pain and I also have alot of neurological symptoms in my legs/feet. I have been doing the dance of meds, PT, chiro, shots for years. I actually had to beg for the other treatments because several years ago all any of the doctors wanted to do was throw Vicodin at me. I don't like Vicodin. I wanted something to fix the problem not just slap a bandaid over it.

So I did all of that - and I had a good maybe 15 months with minimal symptoms / pain. But for a month now it is all back with a vengeance. My new MRI shows my disc degeneration is worse and my spinal arthritis is worse. They have given me the anti-inflammatory and muscle-relaxants. I am doing all the at home stuff. But I am in so much pain and have trouble moving alot. I can't do anything or I get in SEVERE pain. I just don't know what to do. They are (ironically) now refusing to give me Vicodin or pain meds and refusing to get me into PT. I waited a month for an epidural shot (which I got Friday) but it is not working enough.

And what has me so angry is that when I went to my appointment on Friday (at the pain management clinic) a nurse walked in - instead of my doctor. she blew off most of what I said to her, disregarding most of my symptoms, and she did a 30 second exam. When I tried to discuss meds she said I had to wait for the doctor. PT, or other options she said I could ask at my next visit. She was supposed to go get the Doctor (at least that is what she told me) and set me up for my epidural steroid injection. The next thing I know I have a different nurse walking me out the door. -- I told her I did not see my doctor yet and needed to discuss meds. -- she walked away came back and said I would see my doctor when i got the shot (in the next office) and I was not getting any meds or anything. She said this part of the office was closing. I needed to talk to my doctor next door. Ok. So I go next door. -- My doctor did not come in until they literally were wheeling my bed into the procedure room. I started to tell him that I was having alot of (pain) but before I got the word pain out he interupted me said "Nervousness thats normal - everyone get nervous", then said hold still and began the procedure. Finally I hear him say the procedure was over. I got out Ok Good and as I looked over he was gone - out of the room. When I asked about seeing him again - they said that the office was closing and was going home. I could talk to him at my next visit. WTF??????

I have never been treated like this and I am still in so much pain I don't know what to do.

I called the office this morning -- got a nurse who told me I needed to give the shot more time. She would not let me leave a message for the doctor. She said I could not schedule an appointment to meet with the doctor (who I was supposed to see last FRIDAY!!!) until 3 weeks from now because that is how far the shots need to be spaced.

I am just in total shock. I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any advise. Please!!!!
