  • Cheesy birthday party ideas?

My sixteenth's coming up, and I was originally planning on going to a nearby lake with some friends, but the government shutdown may cancel that option. So, I was planning on milking it and going to Chuck E. Cheese's. However, I discovered that the price to bring the amount of people I want would be upwards of $200. So, I was looking for alternative cheesy birthday party suggestions. Any thoughts?

  • Creating macros in PowerPoint?

Hi. I want to make a text box that the user can type things in. When they click a button beside it, that button will trigger a check to see if the text in the text box matches a password. If it does, the button will exit the presentation. If it doesn't an error should appear.

  • How to mark a trail in a cave?

I went caving yesterday and had a great time. At times, though, my group got lost and we had to rely on spray paint that others had left behind. Even though I was grateful for the way out, spray painting doesn't seem like a very eco-friendly way to mark the trail. We also found at some points string that people had laid across their path all the way from the entrance. This was also useful, but I could see it as a safety hazard and string doesn't seem long enough to help me find my way back. If I ever went caving more seriously, I wouldn't want to get lost but also wouldn't want to damage the cave or present dangers to anyone else.

  • How to deal with a messy family?

My house is always messy and I am completely fed up with it. I'm sixteen, and all my siblings' ages are 10, 12, and 14. It wouldn't be so bad if my parents cared, but they don't. We are almost never told to clean up after ourselves, so my siblings don't.

I've tried everything--asking them to please just clean up their mess, yelling at them, trying to clean the house for them to show them how much they'll like living in clean conditions--everything. And it hasn't seemed to change them, they just keep making one filthy mess after the other. Lately, I've taken to either cleaning everything up myself or locking myself in my clean room and not leaving.

  • HTML: How do I make a reference to a folder name in HTML?

For a project I need to make several folders that are ordered A1, A2, A3, etc. In these folders, I want an index HTML file that references their folder name. For example,

    <html><body><img src="../images/[FOLDER NAME].png"></body></html>

This would really streamline my workflow. Otherwise, I'd have to do this individually for each and every folder I make.

  • HELP, do I have to register this project with the police?

I'm a Boy Scout and for my Eagle project I'd like to make child ID cards for parents if their children ever get lost. I've heard from a lot of people that there have been projects where the police print the information onto cards, but is this needed? I have a fingerprint scanner and card printer already, and I think I'd know how to run the software needed.

If the parents are alright with providing their children's basic information (nothing secret) to us, do we still need to have the police involved?

  • Does copyright still apply if not mentioned?

I want to send a book manuscript to a publisher and to some people for recommendations on things that need fixing. I'm nervous about sending it without a copyright, however, and I know that mentioning copyright on a manuscript labels it as "amateur". If I get a copyright, will it apply if I don't mention it?

  • Help! My mom's been diagnosed with pregnancy!?

Lately, my mom's been noticing small twitches from within, tiredness, cravings for chocolate, anger, and a strange fat lump on her belly that hadn't been there before. We knew it wouldn't be too long before she got her diagnosis.

I know that you can take your own passport photo, but I don't know if you can take your own drivers license photo in Arizona. I want it to be the same as my passport photo; I like uniformity.

  • Why can’t I write music?

I am a Level 9 pianist and I can sightread most music. I'm constantly amazed by the compositions created by composers for movies and television, and even some of the things my friends can create. However, I can't write music at all myself. I've tried sitting at the piano, playing random notes to see if they could create a tune that could make a song, but everything that is produced sounds repetitive and bland. Sometimes I'll wake from a dream with a song that I think my mind created, only to realize that it was from a movie that I saw when I was younger.

I don't understand what the secret is. Why can’t I write music?

  • How much should I charge for my services?

I want to start a business that takes photos against a green screen at parties and other events. I've done some free trial runs to test efficiency, and so far it's working and would work for real clients. Problem is, I don't know how much (or even how) to charge.

The business will offer two service plans: one that emails photos to customers, and one that allows them to be emailed and printed at the same time.

How much should I charge per hour for this?

  • How can I get good quality video with my crappy camera?

I have a Toshiba BW10 (a pathetic excuse for 1080i). I like the resolution, and the underwater feature is nice, but it isn't great for narrative work in the slightest. The contrast is too high, the low-light is grainy, and I can't manually focus or white-balance.

Getting another camera is out of the question, so how can I optimize the features on this camera to get the best video I possibly can?

  • How can I get my sister to be less selfish?

She is thirteen and very selfish. She is constantly frustrating my mom and I don't know what to do about it. It's really coming out around the holiday time of year. Here are some things that she ACTUALLY says:

"It has to be an iPod 5th generation or I'm seriously going to cry."

"My keyboard has to be weighted with at least four octaves or I won't be happy."

It's just been getting worse and worse, and I decided to ask this question when I heard my mom crying in my sister's room just now.

She just doesn't see how much she's been blessed and she won't express gratitude! Please, how can I help to fix this?

  • What to get for an 11-year-old girl?

My sister doesn't feel like telling me what she wants for Christmas, which is frustrating. She loves to draw, but she's already getting an art kit; she loves to ride scooters, but she's already going to have an electric scooter; and she loves to read but she has a Nook already.

What should I get for her?
