  • Can anyone give me tips on shopping from my wheelchair?

I've been a wheelchair user since I was 6. I am 21. I recently passed my driving test and have a car so I have a lot of independance. Since being able to get out I've enjoyed going to the shops regularly. My problem is, I struggle to carry everything to the check out and then to carry it around with me.

I have no push handles on the back of my wheelchair so I can't hang the bags from them.

Does anyone have any ideas or tips to help me carry items around?

  • Short film about an able bodied guy who wakes up in a 'Disabled world'. Whats it called?

I saw this short film a few months ago and can't find it now.

It featured a guy who was walking down the street and two women using sign language were trying to ask him if he needed any help, then he tried to get on a bus but no able bodied people were allowed.

    Has anyone seen it?

Do you know what its called or where I can watch it?

I have Spina Bifda but no Hydrocephalus. I have been getting a lot of severe headaches for a while now. Could they be due to having SB?

  • What will happen to me? Open wounds that are very infected.?

This is pretty shocking but please bear with me.

I have two, large pressure sores, one on each foot. The first one has been there a year, up until a month about 2 months ago it has been slowly healing, now it has gotten very infected and Im sure I can see bone.

The second one is not as severe. It has been there about 3 months now, it is large but looks like it could be saved.

I use a wheelchair so I have very poor circulation in my feet and legs.

The reason I havent told anyone in the beginning was because I have a very very irrational fear of people seeing my feet, I hate hospitals and Doctors. And to be honest, I believed I could heal it myself.

I haven't told any of my family yet.

I know I have to, and I am preparing myself for an awful time.

I am so, so scared. I am shaking writing this.

What is likely to happen to me when I eventaully get medical help?

As I said, I am pretrified of nurses and doctors shaking their heads at me and thinking Im stupid. I am more scared of what my mother will say mostly. And then my Partner.

I plan on telling my Partner first.

I really need someone right now.

  • Christians, how do you feel about the baby who was killed while being baptized?

A six-week old baby boy drowned while being baptized at an Orthodox church. I think, the practice should be outlawed for infants and children.

  • How can I stop my 20 month old from needing two bottles through the night?

My daughter is 20 months old and she has never slept through without needing at least 11oz of milk a night.

She will wake twice in average for a bottle. She doesn't wake up fully but will whimper for her bottle until I get up and give it to her.

I am living in a flat at the moment but soon I'll be moving to a new house soon. I am a wheelchair user so I won't be able to go up and down the stairs while she is in bed and wanting a bottle. She is sleeping in my room at the moment, in her own cot because we only have one room. In the new house she will be in her own room.

Does anyone have any tips on getting her off the bottle through the night?

P.S. She eats three meals a day with a desert and has milk through the day too as well as snacks.

  • Very offensive images on a website.....what to do about it?

I came across a website that I believed contained 'funny' pictures. So I entered the website. While browsing through the images I came across more than one picture that was deeply offensive to Disabled people.

One of the images was of two people with Downs Syndrome getting married. The heading and footing said 'Two MONGS don't make a right'.

I decided to contact the owner of the website and politely tell him that I didn't think the image was very appropriate and that I found it offensive.

His reply was to make fun of the picture even more and tell me that although I found it offensive, he has had a lot of emails telling him how funny it was.

Is there anything I can do about this? Are there any laws to prevent this kind of thing?|

I was polite and as professional as I could possibly be.

  • How can I get a new wheelchair?

I am 19 and I use a wheelchair to get around. I will soon be learning to drive. My wheelchair that I have now does not fold and I'm worried about how I will be able to get my wheelchair into my car without help.

I think the solution is to get a new wheelchair. I am very active and need a sports wheelchair that is lightweight.

I have found the perfect sporty, lightweight., folding wheelchair online but it costs £2,000.

Are there any charities that help Disabled Adults with the costs of buying a new wheelchair?

  • Disabled Parents, I need your help.?

I am trying to do something about the lack of baby changing facilities that are height accessible for wheelchair users, dwarfs and others who need them lower down.

Up until now I've contacted human rights and a lot of other organizations but I feel that me, being only one person isn't going to be heard.

I need other Disabled Parents to help me fight for the right to be able to change our children in public changing rooms. Why are we being denied this basic right as a parent?

Contact me on: nia_jenkins@yahoo.co.uk if you are interested.

    Thank you in advance.

  • Safety gates for disabled parents?

I am physically disabled and have an 11 month old daughter. She is now moving around very quickly so I need some safety gates. The problem is I use a wheelchair so I would need a gate with no trip bar so my wheelchair can go through.

Does anybody know of anywhere to buy this type of gate?

  • petition for a separate section for abortion on Y!?

I know this is in the wrong section but I'm trying to get as many signatures as I can.

I asked a question yesterday asking if people agree that abortion should be given a separate section as for a lot of women it is upsetting to see these questions on the pregnancy page where women are trying for babies or have lost babies.

It would also stop people from abusing those who disagree with abortion.

It was suggested that I make a petition so that Y! may consider making abother section for it.

So here is my petition, I hope I get a lot of signatures and I appreciate every one of them.

    The petition link is:

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/give-ab...

People keep saying 'if you dont want to read it, dont' But all questions have a header. So they will be read.

  • A separate section for abortion?

Does anyone else agree that there should be a separate section for abortion. I hate seeing questions on abortion. I am dead agains it and I will say this untill I am blue in the face. There are so many people here trying for a baby and they have to see questions from people discussing their abortions. If they are going to talk about abortions wouldnt it be fair if it was in a separate section?

It makes me want to cry.
