  • Pet doors and electric bills?

I'm moving into a new apartment and have a closed in third floor balcony with a window that looks on it, so I was thinking of putting in one of those window inserts with a cat door for my two cats to lounge out in the sun (and I have a cousin who had great success for years putting his litter box on third floor balconies) but I was wondering how much this'll hurt the insulation of the apartment (and consequently the power bill)

  • My apartment office is closed and my AC can't get it below about 80?

I don't think it's cooling, it's just blowing air. I called the office but they're closed for Labor Day, and I left a message with one of their on-call emergency people. I don't wanna seem like a total wuss. It's about 82 in here right now, and 95 outside, so I'd rather not wait until it does get REALLY uncomfortable.

Uhh, so I guess the question is was I being too wussy?

  • Do you ever see Olympic level swimmers use a backstroke for freestyle?

In my limited understanding of swimming I believe I read the backstroke can be of similar speed but it doesn't have the long diving start, but it's easier to sustain a faster pace over long distances? I dunno, but I imagine someone somewhere could be a big backstroke specialist who happens to be competing in a freestlye.

Also, if you do wanna do it, do you have to start from the normal position or can you dive in and roll over?

    Idle curiosity

  • Hi, I'm a gigantic wuss and there's a cockroach in my closet?

A big one. I've only seen one cockroach before in this apartment, months ago, and my cats happily killed it before I even knew it was there. I keep it fairly clean, and the closet seems like a weird place for one to end up...

Anyways, regardless of why or how it's there, how can I kill it? It's in a bad place for crushing(on the corner of an air filter in a box in the closet) and I hate trying to crush them anyways. If he runs he'll escape into a bunch of boxes and clothes and stuff and I won't be able to find him easily. I put my cats in the closet to see if they'd go after him but he's not moving and I don't wanna make him move. In the meantime I've stuffed some jeans under the closet door so he can't get out

Would it be worth it to get a cockroach trap/poison to put in my closet? I guess there could be more of them. I don't normally let my cats near the closet so they couldn't get to it.

  • Metal Gear Solid 4 spoilers?

I actually WANT to see the plot spoilers, but searching for them on google only gives me lots of pages saying "look out! The plot spoilers are EVERYWHERE!"

Everywhere but where I'm looking apparently.

  • Who wants to help figure out why my tongue turned brown?

After arriving at work today I had a nasty taste in my mouth. Hard to describe but it was nauseating every time I swallowed. I went to the bathroom and examined my tongue, and sure enough it was brown. The nasty shade of brown where it looked like I had been licking unsavory places.

It gradually went away and now my tongue and taste are fine again, but I'm trying to figure out what caused that. I have two possible ideas

    1) I...accidentally ran my dishwasher and never unloaded it.....about a month ago. I opened it last night and was assaulted by just a godawful smell and the sight of mm mm mold. I already plan to bleach it to oblivion, but that smell lingered all night, and uh...is it possible something happened with me breathing the mold? Ew ew ew.

2)On the way to work I was like "oo my gatorade from last night!" that I had left in the car overnight. I think the plastic was melty because I was suddenly picking what SEEMED like little bits of plastic out of my mouth.outofword

  • Cats scratching door?

My cats have recently taken to apparently scratching on my bathroom door when I'm in the shower. They don't do it any other time (like if I'm in my bedroom and have the door closed) and it's kinda hard to stop them when I'm in the shower. I guess they're just scratching the paint off, is it a HUGE problem? I figure I can just repaint it when I move out? But anyways, how can I stop them?

  • Where can I buy a 16x18 air filter?

16x20 doesn't fit, Wal-Mart and Lowe's has failed me. Home Depot? I've been using the custom ones you cut but that's a pain in the butt and I'm lazy

  • Anybody see the Secret of Nimh as a child?

It took me forever to remember the name, then upon watching clips of it on youtube, I realized that children's cartoon movies were MUCH more badass back then.

    Now I'm all nostalgic

  • Interesting Probability Problem(not homework)?

We were using Bayesian updating at work for boring junk, so I started playing with it(if you don't know how to solve this that's your clue on what to google)

Let's say there's a disease that you have a 0.1% chance of having, and there's a test for it. If you have the disease the test will correctly give a positive reading 95% of the time, if you do not have the disease the test will correctly give a negative reading 95% of the time. In both cases the other 5% will be a false negative and false positive, respectively

So if you take the test and DO get a positive...what is the probability that you have the disease? It's not 95%, if someone gets it right I'll pick them as best answer, if not I'll add it in my additional details in an hour or so

  • Excel question: Formula to let user enter data?

Say I have a cell A1, if the value of cell A2 is a certain value, I want cell A1 to display a number. If the value of A2 is not that value, I want the user to be free to enter data into A1, but if he sets A2 to that certain value, it replaces whatever he entered

  • In Excel, I have a drop down menu where the user selects yes or no?

If they select no I want to make the value of a different cell 0, if they select yes I want them to be free to enter info in that same cell(instead of it being 0)

How would I do that? I figure it's something with an in/then statement and I can make it be 0 if they pick no easily, but can't let them enter information if they pick yes

  • Burping with a hint of vomit?

So I'm sitting here working hard(clearly)and I let out a mild burp, followed by a distinct vomit taste in my mouth. I didn't burp up anything, and I don't feel sick or nauseus at all. I haven't had any breakfast, just a cup of coffee

  • Is there any significance to seeing mucus on the eye?

This morning I could actually see the mucus, like a little glob of it, ON the eye moving around. It eventually settled into the corner and was then like normal morning eye goo. I've never seen that before, is that just normal and I've never noticed? I suppose obviously the mucus has to start somewhere
