VBA - Assigning Excel Controlsource to Word Userform Checkbox?
Hi all,
I don't often ask questions, but I've hit a bit of a brick wall.
I'm trying to create a fully dynamic userform in Word VBA which pulls data from an excel spreadsheet hidden in the background and allows the user to manipulate the data from the userform. Put simply, I'm wondering if it's possible to assign an excel cell reference to a checkbox controlsource property in a Word Userform? The current code I'm playing with, which if stripped to basics for the purposes of this question, is as follows:
Private Sub UserForm_Initialize()
Dim objExcel As Object
Dim objWB As Object
Set objExcel = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
Set objWB = objExcel.Workbooks.Open ("C:\Spreadsheet.xlsm")
checkbox1.controlsource = objExcel.sheets("Sheet1").Range("D2")
etc.
*Note that the checkbox and range are dynamic and vary every time based on a number of conditions and arrays. I've represented them as absolute references in order to simplify the above.
The issue I'm having is that no matter what combination of code I add to the controlsource property, I am always getting a runtime error 380. I've heard that an excel controlsource cannot be added and that I'd have to load the data to word using the 'value' property, but I want the Word Userform to manipulate the Excel data. Does anyone know whether it's a syntax issue? and if not, can anyone recommend any solutions?
Thanks
2 AnswersProgramming & Design8 years agoGeneric question about Eyes and Colours?
What are your thought on the following? You need to disregard the fact that science may have already dis-proven this theory but I was just thinking about this today.
We assume that we all see colours the same way; but who's to say that the colour black to me doesn't appear as the colour pink to you etc. If we see the same colours differently we will still think they are the same because you'd be brought up thinking the colour pink (which is black to me) is in fact pink.
The only time it might be obvious that we are seeing different colours is if you're designing something and ask me which colour would look best. Let's say it was something where a dark colour would look best so I say black (which is pink to you). This might reveal the fact that we are seeing different colours as in your view that's a light colour (pink) but in my view it's a dark colour (black).
At the same time however you would be seeing pink where I see black so in your world there would be a lot of pink meaning that you have a tendency to favour black given it's a dominant colour in your world - hence my suggestion might be accepted and not debated.
What are your thoughts?
3 AnswersOptical1 decade agoModifying alarm clock to incorporate motor?
Hi All,
I'm interested in modifying my alarm clock to do one of a number of things.
To give you some background I can only sleep in a pitch black room which also causes me trouble trying to wakeup as I have thick curtains and it can look like 10pm at 10am. So I've decided to modify my alarm clock (or get another one solely for the job) to open my blinds when the alarm goes off.
Essentially what I was thinking is to locate which pin of the integrated circuit activates the alarm and running a wire from that to a motor which in turn pulls on the drawstring to open the curtain. The only problem I have with this is if I leave the alarm on for more that say 20 seconds the drawstring would be fully pulled and the motor may burn out meaning I'd need to make it so the alarm activates a timer which runs the motor for a set period of time before shutting it down.
The other option was to install a hinged ledge with a weight on it attached to the drawstring. Once the alarm goes off the ledge with the weight drops and the weight drops too, pulling the drawstring with it. Again I assume I'd need a cut-off switch for this.
Does anyone have any ideas how this could be built or of any device which does the same? I don't necessarily need to use my alarm clock it could be a stand alone system (EG. I could use a watch with a timer countdown function and once it reaches the correct time instead of activating a beeping noise it could activate the motor).
Thank you all for your time :)
1 AnswerDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoNeed a file upload from someone running Win XP?
Hi All,
I am hoping someone can do me a favour and upload a file from Windows XP for me to download?
The file I'm looking for is Shutdown.exe which is located in "C:\Windows\System32" folder.
Can someone please upload this file and post the link?
The reason I need it is because I'm running Vista and the shutdown.exe propgram on vista has a 600 second timeout. The Win XP one has no limit so you can set the program to shut the computer down after 3600 seconds (example).
First person to respond with the working link gets the best answer.
Thankyou all
1 AnswerOther - Computers1 decade agoMozilla Firefox navigation bar to operate like IE6 address bar?
Hi all,
I've recently installed Mozilla Firefox to have a bit of a play around with it instead of using IE6 or IE7. The great thing about using IE6 is that for all of my favourites to google or altavista etc. I add them as favourites and name the favourite as just the first letter. For example I add google to favourites but call it 'g' and I add altavista to favourites and call it 'a'. The advantage of this is that I can click on the address bar, type in a letter and press enter and it brings up my websites saving me a heap of time.
I know that Firefox has quite a good navigation bar however whenever I add a one letter bookmark and attempt to type the letter in the navigation bar, it just goes to google and displays search results for that letter.
Does anyone know if there is any way to get Firefox to behave the same way as IE6?
Many thanks,
Andrew
2 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoHot Water System Question?
Hi all,
I've recently purchased an older property (1960's) which features a newly renovated bathroom (approx. 3 years old) and older hot water system.
Whenever I take a shower, the water temperature is virtually impossible to adjust as the temperature is continually fluctuating. When I run just the hot water, the heat stays for a very long time but as soon as I introduce cold water, the water temp fluctuates and turns cold after a while. It's as if a controlling mechanism is malfunctioning or not installed.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem may be? I'm not expecting to fix it myself but I'd like to at least know what the problem is.
Thanks for your help.

4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoUnsweet Hot Chili Sauce?
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a recipe to make some hot chili sauce. I have heaps of chili plants and am looking for a recipe for hot chili sauce.
My favourite is Masterfoods Hot Chili Sauce which is orange in colour but my local shop doesn't stock this any more. I've been trying to replicate it but with no luck.
Does anyone have a good recipe for hot chili sauce? I hate sweet chili sauces so I'm not interested in any sweet recipes.
Thanks for your time,
Andrew
