Just saw video of anti-war protesters burning the US flag near the Berkeley campus.

My question is simple: what is the purpose of burning the flag? What purpose does it serve? I heard someone say that it "displays dissent" but I don't really understand the connection.

Comcast will be here Tuesday evening to hook up my cable internet. I live in a small studio apartment. The cable outlet is in one corner of the apartment and that's where I currently have my television stand. My computer is on the other side of the apartment. I measured it out, and I will need about a 30ft cable to be able to run the cord, along the wall, from the cable outlet to my computer.

Will the cable guy have this cord for me or am I expected to have it? He's supposed to make sure that the internet is up and running, so I'm assuming that he either has the cord, or I'm going to have switch my tv (thus taking the cable away from tv) with my computer.

What else do I need to do to prepare for this visit? I've only ever had DSL, not cable for internet.

The last I heard, O'Reilly still denies that the homeless veteran situation is as bad as being advertised and that he hasn't taken any of the homeless vets "under his wing."

Is that accurate? Could someone bring me up to speed?

Since October 2007, I've been trying to switch my home phone service, DSL service and wireless to Verizon's Triple Play bundle (you get all three services for $94 a month). I've been told every month since October that the changes were made to my account and would be shown in the next bill, but they never were. The last rep. I talked to told me that I would even get a credit for overpaying and that I would receive it on this bill. Well, I just got this bill and no changes were made, no credit issued.

I caught the wireless rep. supervisor in a bind when the home phone/DSL rep. confirmed (we were in a conference call) that I have been trying to make these changes since October, different from her claims of December.

I feel that I shouldn't have to continue to pay for bad service and would like to end my business deal with Verizon. How do I go about explaining that I shouldn't be responsible for early termination fees?

Reading the CNN report, I found this sentence:

"The checks are an advance on next year's refunds, and most, if not all of the money, will be deducted from taxpayers' refunds in 12 months' time."

Am I reading that right? The money we're getting in May is just an advance of next year's tax refund?

I don't get it!

For the past three months, I have been having the hardest time dealing with Verizon. I currently have my home phone service, high speed internet, and wireless service with them. For the past three months, I've called to get this set up and have been assured that my plan would go in to effect the next business cycle, which has not happened. Last month, the rep. I talked to told me that it would go through, how much my bill would be, and then gave me a $45 credit towards the next bill. Well, I the bill arrived two days ago and no changes were made, and no credit was issued. I talked to someone else two days ago, who said she would take care of this, but she hasn't called back or returned my calls.

To get to the point, can you report a company like Verizon to the BBB? Is this my only option left?

I've read up on the basics of Rosicrucianism, and have found the website of a couple different organizations, but I can't seem to find the main authority, or headquarters, on the American Rosicrucianism.

I'm also wondering what the dues are as I'm very interested in learning more but don't want to committ to something that I can't afford.

Let me preface this by saying I've had the utmost respect for the Patriots and what they've done.

But as a fan of football, I'm concerned with the chance that there is more to the story of Spy Gate (with news of them videotaping the Rams etc).

All I've heard from Pats fans on both Yahoo and ESPN is that non-Pats are just sore losers and jealous. My question is this: aren't any of you the least bit concerned that your legacy is tainted?

If it was confirmed that my team was caught cheating, I wouldn't support them any more.

Sen. Specter has decided to open up an investigation regarding "Spygate" because it impacts the "antitrust exemption." What is this antitrust exemption, and how does SpyGate affect it?

Personally, I'm ecstatic that he is investigating this. You catch someone cheating, and that same year they go undefeated. Just seems fishy to me.

I've always wondered this...

If a defense attorney finds out that his client is guilty of a crime, does that lawyer have an obligation to report it? In other words, if a lawyer finds evidence that his client did murder someone, and the client insists on pleading "Not Guilty," does that lawyer have to continue defending him? Can he testify against him?

It just seems odd that a lawyer may have to fight his hardest to get someone off the hook whom he knows is guilty.

I saw on the news that stock markets are crashing all over the world because of the mortgage crisis here in America (I pay my bills, don't blame me!).

I have to admit that I have no idea how all of this works. Why did the stock market in Sydney crash because we don't pay our bills here in the US?

I have my web hosting through Yahoo and I've learned XHTML and CSS on my own. I wrote all of the markup, but I was having problems with my own forms, so I decided to try Yahoo's Email form Add On.

Everything looks great but when I test the Submit function, it takes me to a screen that says "Incorrect request to userForm."

I've followed all of the instructions (including editing my alternate email address) and I talked to tech support, who told me that the code is incomplete and to copy and paste it over again. But the code is the same:

<form method=post action="http://us.1.p12.webhosting.yahoo.com/forms?login={...

Please note, I replaced my login information with the {email} just in case it's unsafe to put that out there.

Any recommendations? I thought putting form method="post" in quotations would help, but no go.

I'm learning XHTML and CSS on my own. I have bought several books and I'm validating everything on the W3C website.

All I want to do is is center my H3 headers. Because I'm validating with Strict, it won't allow me to do a simple <h3 align="center>, so I have to find a way to center the text in CSS. I thought the h3 {text-align:center;} would work, but it's not working.

I checked to see if there is any other language that may be causing it but I can't find anything.

Any ideas?

What's wrong with using the "height" element to make sure the nav div and content div are the same height? I've had a problem with my nav div not being as tall as my content div and everyone has been telling me to do things like "negative content margins" and repeating backgrounds, but when I tested the height (i.e. 700px), everything seemed ok.

No one could really tell me why height is a bad thing.

My co-workers are amazed that I've never seen Psycho or Dazed and Confused...or Purple Rain, so we decided to make a list of must see classic films. I don't care about the genre, I just want to know what you recommend I sit down and watch.

I am currently enrolled in an online course with University of Phoenix, but I've been hearing that their degrees are not really respected and that I should change. Their curriculum seems to prove what I've heard; six classes in and I have a 4.0 GPA and I really haven't had to study or anything for it. Anyways, my questions are 1. Are there any respected online schools available? My schedule prohibits me from attending a traditional setting. And 2. Am I under any sort of obligation to the University of Phoenix or can I just quit classes and start at the new school. I just filed for financial aid through them.

I take classes through University of Phoenix online. I currently receive the max amount for Stafford loans but I heard that Perkins loans are also available if there is a need. Can I apply for the Perkins loan to help cover the cost of a new computer and some living expenses? How do I show the school I have a need?

Do you have experience with this particular school?
