A few questions regarding online education.?
I am currently enrolled in an online course with University of Phoenix, but I've been hearing that their degrees are not really respected and that I should change. Their curriculum seems to prove what I've heard; six classes in and I have a 4.0 GPA and I really haven't had to study or anything for it. Anyways, my questions are 1. Are there any respected online schools available? My schedule prohibits me from attending a traditional setting. And 2. Am I under any sort of obligation to the University of Phoenix or can I just quit classes and start at the new school. I just filed for financial aid through them.
Thanks.

I took 18 hours through UOP before I decided to try another route of education. It got to be way to expensive and like you, I felt that the grades were being handed to some. Some of the instructors at my present college have obtained a Master's degree at UOP so apparently it is respected to some degree.
I would suggest that if you have any general ed classes left to take, don't do it at UOP. Find a college that offers night or web classes. You may have to research adjacent colleges but they are out there. Some regular brick and mortar colleges even offer complete bachelor's degrees. It would also be worth the time to research that.
Also, watch out for fees if you leave UOP. When I decided to withdraw, I was left owing almost $500 back for leaving before the financial aid term was over or something like that.
Another warning: If you try to consolidate all of your student loans with other companies, like Sallie Mae, it is almost impossible to get any mailing information from the student loans you obtained from UOP. As of this date, three of my student loans from UOP have been unreachable and therefore, not able to consolidate.

1)Penn Foster is Accredited and accepted through the Dept. Of Education.
2) University of Phoenix should have had you sign a contract at the beginning of your courses, that's where you will find out about your financial liabilities(varies according to the state you live in)
Requirements for Officially Withdrawing from the University
"Any student who finds it necessary to interrupt their attendance by withdrawing from the University can complete the official withdrawal process by contacting their local campus. The Official Withdrawal form will assist the University in timely withdrawal processing so that no additional services are rendered or charges incurred."

You didn't say what your major is, but Colorado State offers an on-line business administration degree, as does Bellevue University in Nebraska. Employers would never know it was either was earned on-line. CSU doesn't advertise on their site, so you would have to contact them directly. You might have a little trouble getting rid of UOP, but stick to your guns. It will be worth it.

I would finish if I were you and go ahead and find a job. That school is accredited and it should get you a job after you finish. Stop listening to what people say, they are not the people that are going to give you a job!!
