All US scientists use it. Many US engineers and architects use it. Calculation is much easier-it is often just a matter of moving the decimal point. Liquid and solid measures are related in the metric system where they have zero relation in the Imperial system. Britain converted their money to the metric system. A pound is now 100 pence. A pound used to be twenty shillings, a shilling used to be 12 pence. There were coins worth sixpence, threepence, twopence, one pence, a half pence, a quarter pence. There were florins and guineas and groats. Nutty!

The US gallon is also smaller than the Imperial gallon.remember that when you think you pay a lot less for gasoline.

That document infringes on the freedoms of US citizens to an extraordinary extent.

It can be used to deny due process, habeas corpus, public trial by jury, access to legal representation, visitation by family and friends. The cops (in whatever incarnation) can transport you to a different state, or even a different country, secretly.

What kind of patriot supports that crap?

In the NYTimes op pages, there is a piece called Messing With The Wrong City-about the marathon bombing. The piece is full of indignation and chest thumping.

I fully understand the outrage Boston's people feel. But without any clues to who committed the crimes, talk like that is empty. AND probably is giving the culprit(s) a guffaw.

I have followed US politics since Eisenhower was president. There have been some misdeeds by a few chief executives but I don't recall the invective directed at any of them like the poison spewed at President Obama.

Tricky Dicky was treated better. B.J.Billy Clinton was forgiven. The Kennedy trio were all womanizing sleazebags but Teddy was sent to Congress over and over in spite of his drunk driving that caused a woman's death.

There is a scene in the Jimmy Stewart, Lee Remick, Ben Gazzara movie where Jimmy says hello to the piano player. I swear the guy is Duke Ellington. It is a snapshot of one of the jarring discords in the US concerto of self-adoration that a musician of Ellington's stature is cast in such a lowly part.

America and Americans are no better or worse than many other nations in the world. Patriotism is admirable in everyone, but Americans get sickening about it. If one looks at the twenty-five wealthiest democracies in the world, America ranks low in quite a few categories. what other nation would say "That's anti-Swedish" "That's anti-Brazilian" "That's anti-Australian"

It seems clear that the laws of physics are the same universally, or all scientists are deluded somehow. The speed of light is an absolute and a speed limit in our reality.
