Do Americans see everything as a conflict between Conservatives and Liberals?

People can be conservative in some ways and liberal in others. But the USA is the only modern democracy with only two plausible parties. It seems unlikely that two parties could speak for many millions of voters.

Update:

but that's just my point, Matt W.

There are only two real contending parties. Within those parties I concede there is a range of candidates who compete for the major nominations. But they still all essentially tow the party line or they don't get nominated. And the major elections are always races between the Republican and the Democrat. The odd independent surfaces once in a while but is isolated in the state or federal congresses and doesn't even have a caucus.

Of course there is a point to the elections. It's just a somewhat limited joust.

It's a highly political situation in the USA atm. The Dims are trying to turn America into another big government leftwing shithole, and the people with sense are trying to stop it, so I could see how you would come away with that impression.

If everything was a conflict between two parties, what would the point of "voting" be?
