It's the first day of my period, and so I've taken my first tablet. Will there be any effect on my period, or will it be normal?

I recently bought a dress that said size 1 on it in Italy. How does this compare with English/Italian clothing sizes, as I'd always thought Italian sizes were in centimetres.
