  • National Rail out of Newcastle - how to get separate tickets?

I am very afraid because the "customer service" for National Rail reply says they will get back to me in 5 days to resolve my problem which will occur in 3!! I bought 2 rail tickets (yes, they are already purchased), one for myself and one for a friend. He is coming from the NCL airport, and I (who paid) will wait for him at Metro Center. The ticket acquistiion options appeared to be to have them mailed to you for a fee (not an option) or to pick them up. It just said "Newcastle" as the pickup option. I looked for the airport one - and could not see anything else for Newcastle other than "Necastle". it did not give a SECOND option of where to pickup the tickets for 2 different people, etc. He gets off his train and we both take "my" train from there. Problem is: What do I do to get him on his train? I am VERY worried as there was not enough information to allow me to put his name on a ticket, or figure out how to email him a ticket. There seemed to be nothing like that available. So I am worried that they will try to charge him for another ticketor something completely absurd. Fix me!? Very worried. Need knowledgeable info of solution, and perhaps a phone number where a real person could be reached to sort me out? I have traveled by rail before, but I've never had to buy tickets for separate journeys...and certainly not in another country with a different transaction culture.

  • Arriving Edinburgh after closing hours?

Arriving in November when it's obviously going to be quite dark after 6pm. Very likely no tourist sites open at that hour, but I'd love other travellers advice or locals to suggest something intelligent to do - not interested in getting drunk or trying haggis. Would shops still be open? Looking for something educational, Scottish-y, perhaps to see a fountain that might be lit up at night, or other photographic opportunity that I might not have/take time to see otherwise. I am only in Edinburgh 24 hours. I plan to see the Castle, perhaps a museum, walk the Royal Mile of course. Would LOVE it if someone could put me on to an excellent charity shop that might have something cool to buy! Also any useful suggestions on best options (assuming train, but would love to know if there's a bus/coach that's actually better) to get to Newcastle. I would be leaving at 6pm or later on a Wednesday. Maybe a 2-hour trip? Can't tell! A lot to ask in 1 question thanks for the help!! :-)

  • Any way to wangle a look at Blenheim Palace off season?

The notoriously challenging nature of scheduling your holiday in the U.S., puts me in the U.K Mid-Late November. The first time I was in England was 1999 and I *desperately* wanted to see Blenheim Palace but it was closed then, as it will be now. Who knows how, if, or when I will ever be able to return to see it. It's a major trip from California, and I am motivated to find some way to see this beautiful place and the grounds. I do not want to invade the privacy of the owners, but I thought surely there could be privately booked events that I might contrive to gain admission to....? If nothing else, are the grounds open in some fashion? Would appreciate the advice of a well informed local... or a contact at a local business who could advise me, if it's impractical to post in the open on this site. (or even a creatively disguised temporary email address)

  • Big Luggage store off 405 in Orange County, CA? Still Exist?

I think it must be gone, but I'm wondering the name. I can't exactly remember what exit it was near, but I feel like is was north of Bristol. Big luggage warehouse. Heading south-bound to the El Toro Y it was to your right in an industrial type of area. You had to get off the exit and double back. Like the size of a SavOn or so. They advertised for a few years on talk radio. I think they must be out of business as a brick and mortar building. But I hope I am wrong. It was like Luggage Warehouse, or something similar. This would have been at least 10 years ago I went there a few times.

  • Hadrian's Wall -- worth it to visit on short trip?

I'm meeting a friend in Newcastle at 5:30 PM in mid-November. I point out that it will be dark by then and it's his "Day 1" in the UK. We will have a look at Newcastle a bit in the morning before heading to see a bit of York and then on to Blenheim and Bletchely Park before heading down to London. I want to make sure I am deciding rightly on skipping Hadrian's wall. Familiarizing myself with the micro cultures in the UK regions is a little more appealing than freezing out on the border fence in fading daylight. I am pretty well decided not to spend the time trecking out to one of the forts. But also not clear on exactly how long it would take to get out there and back from Newcastle. Intelligent consult welcome!

  • Need certain example of Flash (or other animation) as described below...?

I can't remember where I saw this Flash animation where they had the company's products scrolling by in small frames, running left to right. All you had to do was roll your mouse over a frame and the scroll would stop and you could click on the frame. It was like an index that ran across the screen like a ticker tape. Can you guys help me find a sample that does exactly that and/or some other similar ideas? I'm trying to show the boss how to solve a design problem and I know she won't fully "get it" until I show her the idea in practice.

  • Why is MS Picture Editor turning My pictures Red?

Any time I hit save after doing any modification to the pic in the picture editor, even re-sizing it, the picture looks fine and then when I hit "save" or "save as" it puts a reddish tint on the picture. If you then go back and try to adjust the saturation to pull that tint out and hit "save" again, it makes it even MORE red. Additional edits just continue doing the same. It did not used to do this with the same type of images and I have changed computers and it is still doing the same thing. What the heck is going on?
