enjoy the highs and learn from the lows After nearly two years of ttc and two failed IUIs with severe endometriosis, I'm temporarily giving up. Will meet new specialist in January 2010 to discuss IVF but if it doesn't work, we will not be trying any more. There is more to me than endometriosis and ttc and I've wasted too many months forgetting that. It's time to put my health, happiness and marriage first and getting pregnant second. update: August 29 ivf #1 bfp on September 24th--please let this be a sticky bean.

  • Should I worry if no fetal pole on ultrasound after IVF?

It has been 25 days since my embryo transfer so I'm at 6 weeks today. They saw the sac (but didn't tell me the size) but couldn't find a pole.

I was told it may have implanted late so it's possible that it's too small.

Also said due to my very tipped uterus it was hard to see well.

I'm very upset and wondering if this is a bad sign.

    Thank you

  • what do you think of these names?

We don't know if we'll have a boy or a girl...but these are two names we've actually been able to agree on (out of MANY names lol)

The family name is two syllables and starts with H. The middle names are not changeable as they are sentimental.

    if a boy: Jack Henry

    if a girl: Abbey Josephine

FYI the spelling of Abbey is on purpose and also has meaning (plus I'm a fan of the Beatles ;) It's pronounced the same as Abby.

thanks...please no rude comments I will report you.

  • 5 weeks pregnant after IVF how do I cope with fear of loss?

After 2 1/2 years of ttc we finally were able to see a bfp thanks for ivf. We transferred one embryo and so far things are fine. I don't really have any major symptoms yet aside from some cramping (which scares me but I think my severe endometriosis is making it more painful for me).

I am 5 weeks today. Next Friday I will have my first u/s to check the viability and make sure the baby is in the uterus where it should be :)

Because it was such a long and difficult road to get here, I'm so scared of losing my baby. I know that the chance is only around 15% and that if we see a heartbeat next week it's even less...but I still can't help but worry. I'm obviously extrememly happy with the fact that it worked, but it's so unfair that I can't fully enjoy something I've waited so long to experience :(

Anyone else going through this and how did/do you cope?

    thanks

FYI hcg results showed that numbers were doubling in under 48 hours so that's good!

  • IVF people...what are your experiences?

I will be starting IVF this summer and just want to hear the experiences of others...tell me your stories, good or bad...

Here is my story (in point form!) just in case you were curious:

ttc for over 2 years (27 months to be precise)

diagnosed with severe endometriosis (uterus fused to colon, endo on bladder and large endomtrioma was removed-size of an orange) in February of 2009

Had all tests done...aside from endo my tubes are clear and all hormones are good. Hubby has super sperm count. Doctors feel there is no reason to believe we can't conceive naturally but that A.R.T. will definitely boost our odds.

Had back to back IUIs in October and November of 2009 both fail.

Switched fertility clinics in January 2010 and are now waiting to start IVF.

  • For women with foot tattoos, how is the pain?

I have two tattoos already but they are both on my back. I'm thinking of having one done on the top of my foot. The other two didn't really hurt at all and I have a pretty high threshold of pain, but I'm just curious is it's very different since there is basically no fat on that part of my body.

    Thanks :)

P.S. I'd love to see pics!

  • What's your favourite "cheapie" body lotion?

I'm just curious what other people have tried and liked...you know the kind you can buy at the drug store or from avon...under $10.00 stuff.

I'm a big fan of aveeno.

  • Tattoo suggestions for someone dealing with infertility...?

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for two years...it's been very difficult on our relationship, but has also made us that much closer. I'm at a point now that I've started to accept it may never happen for us (I'm not giving up yet, but trying to be realistic).

I wanted to get something to symbolize this feeling and this time in my life...

I already have two other tats, a fairy from a book my Grandfather gave me as a child-(lower back) and a mythical humming bird that I got after college when I felt a great sense of freedom and hope(right shoulder blade)...this would be a third and I want it to sort of fit with the theme of my other two...I'm thinking some kind of flower...I'm not sure where I want it but it would be nice to have it in a place I can actually see without a mirror :P

  • Whatever happened to Laula?

Does anyone remember Laula? She had a husband named Billy...and she was a top contributor for a long time...

I haven't been online in a while and was thinking about her.

Anyone know if she had her baby yet?

  • Small dog owners, can you offer me breed suggestions?

My husband and I have been trying to have a child for a couple of years now without success. We have decided that a dog may be a good idea since we have a lot of love and patience to give. Also, puppy training might keep me distracted from constantly thinking about infertility!

We aren't really sure what we want. My husband is a bit of a neat freak so ideally it would be a very low shedding dog. We also prefer smaller dogs (less than 10lbs ideally) who have an easy going temperment.

I'm kind of leaning towards a yorkie as my grandparents have one and he seems very well behaved and sweet.

Our good friends also have a Shih-tsu and he's the most mellow dog I've ever met!

Toy poodles also are an option but I've never had any first hand experience with one.

    Thanks for any input :D

OH and any advice on reputable breeders in Quebec, Canada would be appreciated.

  • Have you ever had a +opk before trigger shot?

If you get a positive opk about 4 hours before you're supposed to trigger, do you count ovulation from the opk (so about 24hrs later) or the trigger(36hrs later)?

    7am: negative opk

    7pm: positive opk

    11pm: time for ovidrel

    11am (36hrs after ovidrel): IUI

Is there a chance the LH would cause me to ovulate before the 36hours was up? I'm scared this means the IUI would have been done too late.

    Thanks!

  • How do I keep trying with bfn after bfn?

Today is 14dpiui and I of course got another BFN. My temp this morning was 98.7 so I was stupidly hopeful...but I guess AF is just coming tomorrow.

The IUI didn't work and I can't help but feel I was right about them doing it too early. Next cycle I'm using digital opks so there is no doubt about whether it's a positive or not.

I'm so tired and sad right now...I didn't think it had worked from day 1dpiui so I'm not really surprised...just fed up of this crap. Where do you find the strength to get through each month? I'm on month 19 now and I can't imagine making it past the 2 year mark without having a total mental breakdown.

It doesn't help that our best friends are about to have their first any minute now and they started ttc 8 months after we did....The day the told us I begged to be pregnant before she gave birth :(

  • What do you think of the name May?

    I'm not pregnant...yet!

I just like to look at names of great-grandparents,etc. and see which ones might sound good today.

  • Just had my first IUI, what do you think?

Sorry if this is long but you need the details!

I have severe endo but I ovulate normally and my tubes are clear so we decided to do IUI with 100mg of clomid. THis is my first cycle which started on my birthday by the way :P

Yesterday was day 14 and went in for u/s: had one dominant follicle at 18mm and three others of 12mm. They said to wait two more days before giving myself trigger shot and then iui on Tuesday. But the also said to take opks every 12 hours starting last night...just in case my body decided to ovulate sooner. Well I got a positive opk last night and so they told me to do the iui this morning!

Do you think that this was too soon? How long after +opk are iuis normally done?

My hubby's count was great though...washed sperm level was 47 million motile!

We of course will have sex again for the next two days just in case, but I guess I'm worried about how many of the follicles are going to be released and also how long washed sperm will stay alive while waiting for the egg to release.

    thanks everyone :)

  • Does this opk look positive?

I am scheduled to do an injection of ovidrel on Sunday night and have an IUI on Tuesday morning. But they asked me to do OPKs every 12 hours starting tonight and that if I got a positive to call them to schedule the IUI the next day instead. They said even if I'm unsure of the result to go in so they can do a blood test and see if it's positive.

So go figure the first test I take is hard to read. :P To me they look the same but it's hard when I didn't take any previous tests to compare! The first photo was taken at 5mins and the second after about 8mins?!? (was trying to get a good shot in different lighting for a few minutes!)

  • Is this normal while taking clomid?

I started 100mg of clomid this month (CD3-7) and will also being doing ovidrel and IUI (probably next weekend or early next week).

During the 5 days I had no side effects whatsoever...except the occasional hot flash in the night. Today however I'm feeling hot all the time, emotional and very very tired. I also started having pains on my ovaries this afternoon (I have cysts and endometriosis so I'm used to this feeling but usually only the day I ovulate and during my period...)

Also my temps have been pretty much steady at 98.2 since the first day I took clomid. Could this be due to frequent waking up from hot flashes or does clomid raise bbt????

Should I be worried or just take these symptoms as a sign it's working???

  • Endometriosis sisters...who has conceived and given birth?

I'm just in dire need of hope that I have some chance of getting pregnant one day. I'm having my first IUI next week but I don't want to get my hopes up that it will work...I just have been let down so many times during the ttc journey that I feel if it didn't happen naturally it won't be any different with IUI.

My tubes are clear, I ovulate regularly and my FSH levels are normal. DH has good count too....first test we did showed 97 million.

My endo is at the back of the uterus fused to my colon....Had lap to remove ovarian cyst in February but i know there is another small cyst on one ovary now.

Has anyone with stage 3-4 endo conceived without IVF?

  • no side effects from clomid...is this normal?

I am on my first round of clomid (100mg). Tonight I'll be taking my last dose...I haven't really felt any different. Yesterday and today I had some cramping near my left ovary, but this isn't uncommon for me as I have a cyst and i also had surgery there to remove an endometrioma back in February...

I've also had the odd headache here and there...but being a grade5 teacher this also isn't that uncommon :P

I'm having an IUI this cycle and am worried about how well the clomid is working since I feel completely normal. Anyone else have no symptoms and still get pregnant?

  • when to start clomid/serophene?

My period started today in the afternoon...but it's still pretty light. I'm supposed to take my serophene from day 3-5

I know this may be a dumb question but do I count from today (Friday) or tomorrow? What day do I take the first pill?

I don't want to do anything wrong as I will be having my first IUI this cycle.

Also, regarding the IUI...they said I go to check my follicles for the first time on day 14...is this normal? My cycles are usually between 30-33 days, will the clomid make me ovulate earlier? I've heard some people say they did the IUI before day 14...I don't want to miss my chance!

    Thanks.

  • Am I still eligible for maternity benefits (CANADA ONLY PLS)?

    Canada and Quebec only:

I am curious to know if you are eligible for parental/maternity benefits if you get pregnant while ALREADY collecting employment insurance.

I'm not pregnant but I'm havING an IUI done next month, but I lost my job and am on unemployment. I don't want to delay getting pregnant any longer as I've been waiting soooo long already and I suffer from endo so delaying only decreases my chances month after month... if I don't find work will they just transfer me from E.I. to maternity???

The other problem is if I did find work in my field (teaching) I'd probably be put on preventative leave due to H1N1...so obviously if they see I'm pregnant they aren't going to hire me.

Again only for Canada...I've searched the service Canada website and can't find the answer I'm looking for.

    thanks
