  • How does Annual Percentage Rate (APR) work?

Here is my understanding of it: If you have a credit card with a balance of $1000, and your APR (Annual Percentage Rate) on that credit card is 10%, then all things being equal (meaning no payments or fees are applied to the card for one year) your balance on the card will increase by 10% (or $100 to a total of $1100). Is that correct?

  • Does the US consider executions by the state to be euthanasia?

I'm writing a paper about euthanasia, and there is a strange sub-category of euthanasia called involuntary euthanasia, where individuals are put to death involuntarily. My argument is that if the individual does not want to be killed, then it cannot be euthanasia, because euthanasia is only euthanasia if done with the best interests of the patient in mind; thus, if the patient is unwilling, then the euthanisor is not serving the patient's best interests and is in fact committing murder. Thus, I believe the entire category of 'involuntary euthanasia' cannot exist. However, just to be sure, I want to see if anyone knows if state executions by the US perhaps are ever justified as euthanasia. Because state executions seem to be the only practice approximating anything near a 'legal' involuntary euthanasia: The prisoner is not willing, but it's legal anyway. I think the answer is no, but am I missing something?

  • Should I contest parking tickets?

Well, as you may have already guessed I got a parking ticket. My fault, do not pass go, do not collect $200. But I want to know if I should set a court date anyway? For instance, whenever I get a speeding ticket (not THAT often;), I will as a matter of course set a court date, show up and plead 'no contest,' this is for two reasons: 1. If the cop doesn't show up, the ticket is expunged, 2. The judge has the power to alter the amount of the fine, and will almost always knock a little off the amount due (and if you're really lucky, a lot or all of it). Does the same reasoning hold for parking tickets? Should I treat it like a speeding ticket, set a court date, show up and plead no-contest in the hope the judge will knock a little off the fine? Thanks!

  • I'm looking for recommendations of German novels.?

In order to keep my German=language skills sharp, I'm planning to order some novels from Germany... The problem is that I'm not familiar with the literary landscape over there (outside of the classics). In a nutshell, I'm looking for entertaining reads and genre is not a factor. ie. pageturners. Please let me know what books or authors you recommend and a little about why you recommend them. Thanks!

  • What are some good sources for statistics?

I'm writing a paper about euthanasia, and want to cite some studies about public support or the lack thereof for it in various (any) countries. I've been thinking medical journals would be a good source, but any ideas for others? I don't care what form these sources take, as long as they are reasonably verifiable and reputable (as far as statistics ever CAN be reputable;P)

  • How do I quote long statements for a paper?

I used to know this... Basically, if a quote is going to be more than 3 or 4 or 5 lines long, I remember you are supposed to decrease the font to 10, single space it, and decrease the margins to what size?

  • When analyzing self-actuating treaties (mine is called a convention), what is the best way to analyze it?

I'm trying to analyze the important aspects of a convention which expands upon a major Human Rights Treaty (the European Convention of Human Rights, to be specific, while the expanding treaty is the Oviedo Convention (OC)). I figured that important ground to cover would be to discuss the OC's jurisdiction, scope, and enforcement mechanisms. All of this with an eye towards explaining why a certain practice would be appropriate subject matter for the OC. Any suggestions about further ground to cover other than the three things I listed above? Thank you!

  • Do mechanics ever accept deferred payment plans.?

My usual guy doesn't, and I was too embarrassed to ask if anyone else does. Basically, I have an expensive repair to make on my car, which I cannot afford in one lump sum.

  • How do you tell someone you don't want to have sex?

I have an old friend with whom I've never been physically intimate, although it almost happened once or twice yeeears ago. Lately, I've moved closer to where he lives, and would like to hang out with him; however, he keeps making references to us hooking up whenever I come to visit (and no, he's not hinting, he's talking like we already agreed to it)... I guess what I want to ask, is how do you tell someone: "I don't want to have sex with you." And yes, it's an attraction issue, I am not physically attracted to him.

  • What is the most even-handed weekly news magazine?

I am currently receiving Newsweek, and although I'm liberal, I'm tired of having someone else's opinion being stuffed down my throat in place of me arriving at my own opinion through analysis of the insights to be gained from even-handed reportage ('reportage,' a word I've never typed before.;). So, what do you guys recommend? Or is Newsweek it? (pukes)

  • Why does the media portray gays with the effeminate guys?

I already know: Because they do musical theater and WANT to be on tv, but, as a masculine homo, I hate the association. So I guess I'm just whining.

  • On a scale of 1-10, how bad is it if your significant other tells someone you hate about your sex life.?

I discovered an IM conversation between my (ex)significant-other and someone I intensely dislike, where my ex describes our sex life (negatively) to him. WTF?
