Cyanobacteria?
Ok this is more of a fun question first to get it will get the 10pts, best answer, and a big pat on the back from "the craig"! here it goes.
If the prefix cyan/o means dark blue, and erythr/o means red. Cyanobacteria in marine tanks is commonly called red slime algae than why is it not called erythrobacteria?
6 AnswersFish1 decade agoHedgehog diet?
I was wondering if anyone knew what a good diet for hedgehogs would be? I was reading that most "hedgehog" foods are actually bad and would be better off with cat food as well as insects for treats. So if anyone has a brand of food that would be more suited for them im am trying to gather all the info i can before bringing one home. Thanks in advanced!
4 AnswersRodents1 decade agoWhats your take on "stunting'?
i have heard various theories and was wondering whats you take on the issue? Do you have any valid research on what actually occurs? I have heard some crazy things where in a nut shell the fish stays small but the organs keep growing. I cant see that as possible.
I feel it that growth rate is slowed and after time the spine will contort causeing the fish to have trouble breathing and swimming. then the crooked spine may pinch vital organs and ultimatly leading to death.
I have not had any luck finding real scientific evidence to back either of these theories so, any info would be appreciated.

4 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoCataract surgery?
I have to get this surgery, i have been to many different specialist and they all say that my optic lense is not shaped right because the connective tissue that hold it in place has torn so in effect caused them to lose their correct shape. So now they say this complicates the surgery because they aren't sure if they have enough connective tissue for the optical lense implants. Has anyone else had this issue and know of what would be the alternative if the connective tissue doesnt hold the implant in place?
3 AnswersOptical1 decade agoSturgeon/sterlets?
I saw some online stores selling sturgeon saying 180 gallons would be a good size tank for them. I cant really seeing this to be true. What would really be a good size tank for to house this fish and maybe 1-2 mid swimmers? Also Being that i assume a tank for them would really have to be way to large would they be able to go in a 5000 gallon pond and survive a northeastern winter? I know they are cold water fish so would they also be able to survive through the summers?

6 AnswersFish1 decade agoCLOD disease coraline leathal orange disease?
I just noticed some orange coming up on some of my live rock. i was reading about CLOD and was wondering if anyone may have more info on how to cure it or get rid of it. All my levels are right where they should be except my calcium dropped to about 350 where i normally keep it around 400-420. Thought this was normal though since i recently added a new decent sized brain coral so i just figured it was time to start dosing more calcium being that i have more corals. So if anyone has any good info or has ever gotten this any info would be greatly appreciated.

3 AnswersFish1 decade agowhat to do with tank while away.?
I am leaving to go away tonight for 5 days and i was wondering if my reef tank will survive. i just did a 30% water change and all my levels are right where they should be. Is it a good or bad idea to bump up the calcium a bit higher since i wont be there to regulate it for a few days? Should i also cut the white light back a few hours while not there to keep the diatom algae in line? I just upgraded to metal halide lighting so been getting a bit more diatom than befor.
