Apple laptop hard drive failure not under warranty - any chance of recovery?
My friend's MacBook crashed today and his Apple Care expired a few months ago. Are there any companies you could use to attempt to recover the (valuable) files still on his hard drive? How expensive would this be? I don't think anything was backed up. Thanks!
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoBest way to prevent wrinkles from forming in the future?
I don't smoke, I don't tan, and I try to use moisturizer a couple times a week. But I make a lot of facial expressions and can already see a visible line smack-dab in the middle of my forehead, a similar line as my mom's that's now really prominent in her forehead (she's in her mid-40s). I love smile wrinkles but is there any way to prevent this awfully deep line and others from becoming bad in my 30s, 40s, and beyond? I'm only 16 right now, and I can already see it starting to form—is there actually any specifically designed formula for preventing aging instead of reversing its effects?
Kind of a weird question, but thanks for your help!
1 AnswerOther - Skin & Body1 decade agoObscure question regarding an NPC in Sims 2 University?
So, one of my created University Sims moved into a rental house and asked an NPC, "Holly Dallas," to move in with him (eventually they'll probably be married). The thing is, Holly is one of those cheerleaders that randomly and OFTEN busts into Sim frats, dorms, and houses and starts doing the school cheer spontaneously! It's really starting to bug me, because she hasn't stopped doing it spontaneously even though I control her in my household now.
Also, there's no action in the upper left hand corner like there should be, to X out. She just starts dancing, or follows my Sims around and starts cheering! Is there a boolprop cheat or anything to get her to stop this? Thanks, I know this is an obscure question...
3 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoIdeas for an original, fun sweet sixteen party in the Bay Area?
Hey everyone! I'm turning sixteen in late October, and I'm going to be a junior next year (I'm on the young side for my grade). All of my friends have really fun sweet sixteen parties but I want to do something different and original, not just a dinner at the Cheesecake Factor or whatever.
I'm thinking 25 - 35 people, guys and girls. A "nicer" location would be great, because my friends all love to dress up! But in addition to a dinner, what should I do? I live in the Bay Area so anything San Francisco-specific would be great, my friends all drive so transportation isn't an issue (a limo is a possibility too, but fitting that many people isn't likely).
BTW I've already ruled out: the movies, plays/musicals, beer pong, laser tag, amusement parks, stuff like that... I'd prefer something to do at night or in the evening but I'm open to most ideas. Thanks everyone!
4 AnswersSan Francisco1 decade agoHPV shot question: becoming sexually active in the middle of the series?
I just had the first shot of the series (second shot after 2 months, third after 6 months) today. I've had a boyfriend for 6 months and we've been talking about having sex for the first time this summer—we're both virgins, so there would be no risk of being exposed to HPV by having sex with him, right?
Would it be unsafe to have sex for the first time in the middle of the HPV series? I've done a little research, but I'm still unsure about it all. Thanks for your help!
5 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoWhat's the name of this song... it's on a Tony Hawk soundtrack?
My brothers always play this game, Tony Hawk pro-skateboarder 4 or something, and there's this catchy song on it that always gets stuck in my head.
Sorry for the bad description, but it goes something like, "AIE. OH. Let's go!" and then there's really fast lines of lyrics that are hard to understand, but the "AIE, OH," part is pretty obvious. The song might be on Tony Hawk 3 or 4, I'm not sure. The song is also in the movie Accepted (played in that concert...).
Thanks for your help!
1 AnswerOther - Music1 decade agoHelp! My hair's falling out!?
I have a healthy, balanced diet; I'm not bulemic. I naturally have very volumous, thick, strong hair, and I've NEVER had problems with it falling out before.
But now, whenever I try to shampoo my hair, I run my hands through it and multiple strands (not clumps of hair, just single strands very frequently) easily pull out into my fingers. I can't even brush my hair! It's not tangled, it's just... weak, I guess. What should I do?
5 AnswersHair1 decade agoWhere can I find a website that categorizes colleges and universities based on their "specialties"?
I don't have a college counselor or a subscription to any college sites yet, so I'm looking for a free guide-to-applying-to-college site that has a page or two dedicated to listing universities/colleges based on their "specialty" (I know, it's a bad term, I just can't think of another word).
For example, isn't it true that Columbia has one of the best journalism programs in the country? Isn't Harvard famous for its abnormally smart, conceited lawyers? Is it true that Stanford has an amazing creative writing program--or is that just a rumor?
I'd just like a reference area that generalizes American colleges based on what they're known for--even if it's an informal site, or something.
If you can't find a website, then I'd still love any information you have about universities--even if you just say like, "I think UPenn has a good business program" or something.
Thanks for your help!

Does anyone know the name of the very last song that was played in tonight's new episode of Grey's Anatomy, "Desire"? As soon as I heard it I loved it. Thanks!
3 AnswersTelevision1 decade agoHow do you completely disable hyperlinks in MS Word?
I hate having links in my Microsoft Word documents, for instance when I copy them directly from online -- I never actually USE the links! Is there anyway to completely disable them on all my MS Word documents, besides right clicking and saying "Edit hyperlink...delete hyperlink" manually for every single one?
I've already disabled the AutoCorrect feature, so when I type in www.yahoo.com, it doesn't automatically become a hyperlink. However, even though I disabled the AutoCorrect thing, I can still paste in hyperlinks when I try to copy areas of text from online! Is there anyway to just always get rid of them?
Details:
I have Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, version 11.3
(But if you have it for a PC, I'm sure I could still figure it out.)
Thank you!!
5 AnswersSoftware1 decade agoStudying abroad in high school: would you recommend it?
I'm a freshman in high school, and I LOVE travelling and learning about new cultures. It's practically inevitable that I'm going to study abroad in college, but I'm getting impatient -- what's your opinion on studying abroad in high school?
My private high school is extremely small, sheltered, and stressful. I'm in French 2 currently, and I'm extremely interested in French culture. I'd love to live in France for one semester in junior or sophomore year, and go to school there... but could I get enough credits? Would I miss my friends or family (I never get homesick)?
I'm dying to break out of my sheltered little bubble of a high school, gain a little independence, become fluent in French, and learn about a completely new culture that's fascinated me since 6th grade.
What do you think?
(Ask any questions for clarification if you want. Of course I'll give the most thorough opinion a best answer ;-))
7 AnswersStudying Abroad1 decade agoHow much seafood would I have to eat to get mercury poisoning?
I eat a canned tuna sandwich twice or three times a week, sashimi about once a week, shrimp once a week, salmon once or twice a week (plus other types of seafood that I'm neglecting to remember)... and I'm only 15.
Do you think if I keep up this eating habit later in my life that I'll be at risk for high mercury levels?
