  • I want to buy a bike for 9 year old girl, she is 4'4" tall?

My husband and I are looking for a bike, for Christmas, for our 9 year old. She is 52" tall. When I see the guides for sizing, it says "10-11 year old, 24" bike", "7-9 year old, 20" bike". She is slightly petite for her age, so I'm afraid a 24" will be too big. But, I don't want her to outgrow the new bike in a year. Would it be appropriate to buy her the 24"?

  • What kiln accessories and items do I need to begin using my kiln?

I have a potters wheel and an electric kiln and want to begin using the kiln. I've taken several ceramics classes, but the instructors or TAs were always responsible for firing the pottery and setting up the kilns. I know what I need for the ceramic pieces, themselves, but do not know what items I should invest in for the kiln and transferring ceramics into/out of the kiln. Any ideas?

  • Different ways to spell the name Masyn, for a girl?

I'm due any day now and we are planning on naming her Masyn. We wanted to play with the spelling before deciding on anything concrete. As of now, we're spelling it Masyn, but I'd like to see any other versions that people can come up with. Thank you!

  • California Joint Custody: What happens if 50/50 parent moves?

If two parents have joint custody and one parent moves an hours drive away. Whose responsibility is it to transport the child to the other parent during the schedule switch? My husband moved within 3 miles of the mother of his daughter, to be closer to his daughter and her schools. Within a year, the mother moved to a town an hour away and now is insisting that we are responsible for driving at least halfway, to her, to pick up their daughter on his days. He has never agreed to such a thing and before she moved away she verbally said she would take all responsibilities for transporting their daughter. We share 1 car between the 2 of us and their exchange time is noon. He works from 9 - 5 every day and having to take out 2 hours to pick her up in the middle of his workday puts his job in jeopardy. When he can't get to her to pick her up her mother just keeps her for that day until he can pick her up and refuses to drive her to us.

  • I am a salaried exempt employee in CA; Can employer require me to "make-up" time for doctor's appointments?

I am a full time salaried exempt employee for a small business in CA. I am pregnant and have been going on my required monthly doctor's visits. My employer has now started asking me when I will be "making up" my missed work hours due to appointments. I was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes and will need some extra appointments. I can't feasibly work a full-time work week and make up time missed during work hours and take care of myself in my off time. I have worked overtime in evenings and on weekends, never asking for compensated time off from work. Is it legal for them to be requiring that I make up these hours.

I should add that many employees here leave early or take time off in the middle of the day for things such as hair appointments and long lunches, which I have never done. None of them have been asked to make up their hours.

  • Is there a custody mediation service that can be used in all co-parenting communication?

My husband and I have 50/50 custody of his daughter. Since the beginning, there is constant disagreement and conflict with her mother. It doesn't seem to matter what the issue is, big or small, whatever my husband says is countered with conflict and attempts to make him feel unworthy as a parent. She feels she can make up any rules and changes she'd like, other than what is blatantly stated in the custody order. They will go back and forth to work out agreements on any topic, but when it comes time to initiate that agreement she comes back and tells him they'd agreed on something entirely different and then throws in statements and ultimatums as though she's preparing to set him up to look bad, legally or paternally, in some way. He (and I) work very hard to keep everything exactly by the book and don't ever make adjustments without consenting and receiving approval from her mother first.

Someone recently mentioned a custody mediation service in which all communication between the co-parents is done through this service, along with all pick-ups/drop offs. I've tried to research further but only come up with mediators that help solve disagreements. My husband and his daughter's mother already have a counselor they go to in order to try to solve their pressing disagreements. We would like to take mediation a step further so that no contact with her is needed as she has caused far too many unnecessary issues for our family.

We live in California. Does anyone know of a program or service like this?

  • What wide angle lens should I get for Canon Digital Rebel EOS?

I've got the kit lens (EFS 18-55 mm) and a zoom lens, the Canon EFS 55-250 mm f/4-5.6 IS. I would like to get a wide angle lens that would work well with indoor shooting, group events, and capturing wider scenic shots. What would be a good choice for a small budget?

  • Is there a tried and true safe way to color my hair while pregnant?

I'm getting married in less than a month and just found out I'm pregnant. My hair color looks horrible and I'd planned to color it a week or two before our wedding. Well, a few days ago I found out I'm pregnant. I've heard there is not much proof out there that it is safe to color hair while pregnant, especially in the first trimester. Does anyone know of any alternatives, whether temporary hair color or not, that are definitely safe while pregnant, in the first trimester?

  • Will a gluten free diet, while pregnant, cause the baby to be born with a gluten allergy?

I just found out I'm pregnant. I have been on a gluten free diet for approximately 4 months. I was not diagnosed as having an allergy, however, when I go without eating gluten for a long period and then eat gluten, I get severely congested for up to a week. I'd like to continue the gluten free diet, but am afraid that by eating no gluten will cause the child to be born with a gluten allergy. Should I eat little bits of gluten food, here and there, just so that the child has been exposed to it. Or, could that actually cause harm if I do have a true allergy?

  • What is it called, in legal terminology, when someone threatens to take something away already granted?

If someone, in a legal situation (ie. custody issues) grants you permission to do something and then threatens to take it away because they are not getting something they want? This particular situation is custody for the child's father's wedding. The mother had agreed to the child attending the wedding out of state and tickets, dresses, etc. have been purchased. The mother is now threatening to take away permission in an effort to scare the father into agreeing to give up the child over his scheduled holiday, in which he has not had the child for 4 years.

  • At what age can children ride in the front seat, in California?

What are the child restraint laws in California?

    1) Age they can ride in the front seat?

    2) Age they no longer need a booster seat?

    3) How old/or what size should they start using shoulder belts?

    4) Is it better for them to use just the lap belt, in the center back seat? Or, is it better to sit in one of the side seats, with the shoulder belt?

  • How do we upgrade multiple PCs for MS Office 2007, at a small business?

We have 6 computers that we'd like to upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, & Outlook). I've been trying to talk to Microsoft about our options and volume licensing, but the quotes seem extremely high ($3900 for 6 licenses). It seems like we could simply purchase 6 copies of Office, for much less. But, we'd like to just use one disk licensed for multiple PCs so that if we need to upgrade others in the future, we'd already have the software.

FYI, we run on a network (if that pertains to anything).

    Any suggestions?

  • Is it possible to leave gauze on too long after getting a wisdom tooth out?

I just surpassed the 24 hour mark after having one lower wisdom tooth removed, yesterday. I'm so scared of getting a dry socket and am wondering if it's okay to leave a moist clean gauze on the site for the next couple of days? Or, is it better to take the gauze out, for healing purposes? I change it often and moisten it with water so it doesn't stick to the clot and pull it out.

  • Austin, Tx wedding venue?

I'm looking for an inexpensive, but cool venue for a wedding in Austin, Texas. We live out of state so are trying to find as much info as possible online. I've found a lot of great choices, like Zilker Clubhouse. I think that's a great option, but would also like to consider renting a large house or private property to accommodate the ceremony and reception. I think set up and storage of wedding items will be easier if we can rent a place for a few days. I've looked through some of the vacation rental websites, but haven't found anything that looks like it could hold a wedding (of approximately 100 people). Any suggestions?

  • Making ham in the crockpot, ham too big, can I cover the pot with aluminum foil?

I'm making a ham in the crockpot for Easter. The recipe said to get an 8 lb. ham, but it is too tall for the lid. Would it be stupid to tightly cover the pot with aluminum foil and just set the lid on top? It has to cook on low for 8 hours.

  • Who knows of a champagne that tastes like roses?

A few years back, I was at a wedding where they served a champagne that tasted just like roses. I'm trying to figure out what kind of champagne or brand this is. I don't like fruity wines and such, so I'm not really looking for any alternative suggestions. This champagne seriously tasted like roses. Any ideas?

  • I need advice from a California lawyer. Please read.?

I can't afford a lawyer and would really appreciate advice from anyone with experience, but especially lawyers. In short: I worked for a man for 5 1/2 years. He became obsessed with me. I was married and got divorced all while working there (nothing to do with the boss). After the divorce the boss really got obsessed told everyone we were soul mates, wrote me letters constantly, gave me gifts and wouldn't let me deny the gifts saying he understood I didn't have feelings for him and that he just wanted to give them to me. I always made sure he understood I had no feelings for him. He always said he understood. Anyhow, I started dating a guy and the boss really flipped out. He was telling people I threw him in the trash and starting telling me that he thought maybe I had just been using him. I never spent time with him outside of work. I had quit one time before telling him I'd only come back if he stopped sharing his feelings with me, he agreed but then immediately "forgot"...

  • I'm a non-parent dating a parent, can anyone help?

I've been with my boyfriend for about a year. He has 50/50 custody of his daughter, who I get a long with very well. I do however, feel the need to keep emotionally detached from her. He kind of freaks out when she tells me she loves me. So I don't say it back. I just tell her thank you. But that's not the only problem. He speaks to her mother every day and possibly several times a day. All holidays are spent at his daughter's mothers house or her relatives. I'm invited and have gone but wonder if I'll ever get a holiday where I'm allowed to feel like it's mine as well as theirs. His ex calls every day. Every time she has a problem or needs financial help she goes to him, and he helps her. He visits her but I never hear about it until way later if at all. I don't ask him where he is when I don't know, but I don't want to be like that. I wouldn't mind if I thought he was just going there to see his daughter. I just really need some advice on this topic. I feel alone.
