  • UVA Cartoons...?

Did you hear about the cartoons at the University of VA? One depicted a crucified Jesus making jokes at an open mic. The other depicted Mary and God after a sexual encounter.

The student response was unfavorible. They asked that an apology be written and the cartoons removed. The UVA Student run paper apologized and removed the cartoons.

My question is: Do you think this should be the "Christian" respionse to such a blatent affront to their faith?

  • Electoral Reform Qestion...?

Have you heard of CA's option for assigning the Electoral votes in the Presidential election? If not: One electoral vote for popular winner in each Congressional district and 2 votes for popular winner statewide. What do you think of this?

Personally, I think it would do wonders for the process nationwide. If every state did this, it would make it more of a popular vote but still hold to the electoral process (which is absolutely necessary for small state voices). Obviously, it would have to go into effect nationwide and not one state at a time, but I think it would be a sensible solution for our aging system.

  • Human Weapon: 12/27/07 - TKD?

Did anyone watch it yesterday? I taped it, but I was able to catch the challenge match at the end. I though it was hillarious that the big guy got knocked out with one of those useless high kicks, then the other guy torqued his knee trying to be fancy. Did you notice that "The Professor" was hardly breathing hard after 2.5 rounds?

  • Taekwondo Question...?

Why does everyone say TKD is acrobatic and only focuses on useless aerial kicks?

1 - Do you realize that demos are flashy just to attract new people? Would you sit through a demo where people only punched and kicked at the air, belt high or lower, and never did anything 'flashy'?

2 - Aerial kicks are a part of the curriculum, but they are not the focus. In TKD there are 6 ways to apply a kick - and 'aerial' encompasses only one of those ways. At that, aerial kicks may not be as effective as another type of kick, but I can guarantee that they are effective.

Don't get me wrong, there are bad schools out there. Please stop saying that all bad schools belong to TKD. ALL martial arts have their bad apples.

  • Survivor: China...?

Did anyone catch Survivor: China last night? If so, how much would you have given to be with the crew after the Reward Challenge?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, the winners of the Challenge got to go to the Shaolin Temple and workout with the monks. One of the participants has a 2nd Dan in Kempo, so you know she was ecstatic. She even got to perform one of her Katas for the group.

  • Why is it...?

... that it is inappropriate for a teddy bear, or dog, or whatever, to be named Muhammed, but there is no issue with naming a son Muhammed? I mean seriously... what harm is there?

  • What do you think about the govt. in GA offering a prayer for rain?

What do you know - its supposed to rain today. Do you think this could be an answer to prayer, or do you think they waited to pray as a group until the forecast showed rain?

  • Does ATP Synthase prove design? (details)?

I heard a letcure this weekend from a PhD (Endocrinology & Physiology) about Irreducible Complexity. He quoted Darwin from "Origin...", then demonstrated the principle of Irreducible Complexity usuing the ATP Synthase cellular motor. He then stated that the odds of random chance creating just half of the motor were 1 in 10^160.

My question to all is, does this process of cellular energy production logically lead to design?

Note 1: I know 'proof' is not the goal of science, and nothing can truely be proved.

Note 2: I didn't say creation, I said design. I leave the debate for who/what the designer is to someone else.

  • Is it possible in the MA forum today...?

for there to be NO style bashing? If you truely practice martial arts, you should realize this is way beneath you and shows how ineffective your instructor is.

If you don't have a constructive comment on the question, don't offer answers like "Akido is stupid, try a real martial art like Muay Tai." (I saw this this morning on another question...)

Again, let's be martial artists and respect one another, please? Is it possible?

  • Ladies: Is your Daddy your hero?

I'm a daddy to a wonderful 16-month old girl and since Father's Day is Sunday, I'm curious:

    1) Is your Daddy your hero? Why/why not.

    2) Do you share a religious belief with him? Which?

Thanks, and "Happy Dad's Day" to the dads out there!

  • Atheists: Why should I...?

Why should I read Dawkins (your favorite poster child, and I mean that literally)? Isn't he just propoganda for your side? Just once, I'd like to see an athiest read both sides of the argument (like "The Case for..." trilogy by Lee Strobel) with an OPEN mind. If Strobel is propoganda for 'our' side, who's more closed-minded? I've aleast read some of Dawkins' material and found him to be immature and childish.

  • What's your take on the Martial Arts?

I've heard some Christians on here still say it's against their religion. I am a Christian and a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, and know it doesn't conflict with Christ's teachings. So what's your take on the subject?

  • What if you're right?

What if Chrisitanity is a sham and Jesus was just a story? What if the entire Bible was a book written not in the 1st Century, but in the 12th? Does that mean Christians are doomed?

What if you're wrong and Chirst was everything He said He was and more?

  • Athiest or Angostic: Which are you?

Athiest says: There is no god.

Agnostic says: I cannot know if there is a god. (As Charles Templeton said, "not do not, cannot.")

A lot of posts lead me to belive most are agnostic, even though they claim atheism.

If you're an atheist, why are you in R/S because you have no religion or spirituality.

  • Can someone tell me the oldest TKD organization in America?

Just curious. I have a 3rd Dan in WTF-TKD and I'm trying to research some history of my art.
