It's a mellow number. Lyrics I can make out "I apologized" and "I know you heard."

  • Where can I buy fluorescent/neon fabric dye in the UK?

Neon and fluorescent colours seem to be in at the moment.

I can't seem to find anyone who sells this as a dye. Not even the big brand companies.

I am wondering if there is a dye some where out there... or what the process is for achieving a bright colour on fabric?

    Thanks

  • Non refundable deposit for holiday cottage booking?

We place a £300 deposit on a cottage in the Lake District for Christmas. There are no terms and conditions on the owners website of the deposit being non-refundable. Neither did we receive any in the post with our invoice for the deposit.

Due to urgent business at work I won't be able to make the booking. I wrote to the owner 2 months in advance to request my money back and he has declined. Is there anything I can do? I guess this is heading toward a civil dispute in a County Court right?

Wondering if there were any laws that I could quote to the owner to get him to listen.

  • Stereo amp or AV amp to connect to TV?

I have two magnetically shielded bookshelf speakers near my TV and wondered if I can hook up my existing stereo amp (Marantz PM5004) to the TV and speakers or whether I need to invest in an AV amp for this purpose?

    Any advice appreciated.

  • Car insurance renewal - home address vs over night parking address?

My car insurance is due for renewal.

I have decided to park at a different address over night in a secure location.

I spoke with one insurer who advised me that if anything was to happen (i.e. stolen) at the secure location address then the insurance would be invalidated?

I asked why and they told me because the vehicle was parked at a different address.

So why bother offering the option of: "Where do you park over night?"

Surely being honest and parking in an actual secure location would not cause problems but it is causing me a lot of grief... I now need to "prove" that I will be parking there. I don't know how I am suppose to prove parking in a military base.. may be a letter from my Lt General.

    Any advice appreciated.

I need to take my car with me to base and keep it there but it is not my permanent home address.

  • Problem with hot water and cold water at the same time...?

We have recently moved into a new property. The boiler is a vented gas powered system for the hot water.

We cannot run hot water and cold at the same time. If we run the hot water tap... as soon as we turn on the cold tap... the hot water will go cold too. It then takes a while for the hot water to come back. Running hot water alone however, is no problem at all.

The boiler also suffers from a burst diaphragm if the hot and cold are used at the same time for too long.

As far as I can tell there is no electrical ignition or parts to our Chaffoteaux Britony II T boiler and it may be about 15 years old.

I am guessing we are talking new boiler if this problem cannot be fixed. I have heard that Valliant? boilers are good for these scenarios. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Many Thanks.

  • Mixing winter run flats with summer run flats?

Is it okay to put winter run flats on the driven axle? It's not like the car has bags of torque. It is a BMW 325i and I am concerned about the upcoming winter as I always see BMW's on my street struggling and parked on the drive because they cannot grip the road.

Any thoughts appreciated. The front has summer run flats on already.

  • Is a pitted windscreen an MOT fail?

I recently brought a BMW E90. Everything works well and when I brought it the weather was overcast so the windscreen seemed fine. However, driving it in the sun yesterday there were hundreds of white specks on the outside!

The dealer won't replace it and I have argued it until I am blue in the face saying how the screen is defective, dangerous and not fit for purpose. Still no joy.

I'm now hoping to have it covered under MOT warranty. The dealer will pay for any repairs for the vehicle to pass MOT (one off in the first year of ownership). So I was wondering if my windscreen would make it through the MOT.

    Thanks

  • Can I make a Freedom of Information request to find out what someone was arrested for 15 years ago?

I want to find out why my brother was arrested many years ago. All I can find is information for making a request for my own criminal records. I have copies of his birth/death certifcate etc.

As part of my grieving process I am piecing together information about the person he was.

    Thank you

  • Destroyed wasp nest but they are still wondering around it?

We had a wasp nest in our loft. Having had the loft fumigated and the nest destroyed the route of entry into the loft was then sealed up. Although there are no wasps in the loft now. They are congregating outside the roof. This is clearly visible when standing outside our property.

We have checked with our neighbours and there are no neighbouring nests.

Is there anything that can be done to ward these pests off and get them to move on to pastures new?

    Thanks

  • How to fix shower head holder to ceramic tile?

I tried to drill through the bathroom tile and have just found it is ceramic or some harder than hard material. I broke 3 drill bits in the process.

Now thinking if there is some kind of waterproof sticky pad that can be used or if grip fill will do the job?

    Any advice appreciated.

  • Kerb ramp advice needed... need to get our of front garden.?

The council have raised ther kerb so it is 5" high. My car is a BMW E92 which was previously SORN is now ready to go onto the road. The trouble is that with M Sport Suspension the front bumper clearance is 4".

I therefore need to design/buy a car ramp and have no idea how high it should be. Don't get me wrong it needs to be 5" high to match the kerb height but what about the length??

I've read around on the interweb and the three ply method is widely suggested. Using varying lengths of ply, 3 seperate pieces to make steps.

Stuck on the length though... and even the angle of the slope.

    Thank you

ps. For some reason Yahoo is not allowing me to post under DIY and only giving me the option of Home and Garden.

  • Council raised my dropped kerb. What can I do?

The council have arranged for a contracting company to rectify road/pavement defects on our street. I have a dropped kerb in front of my driveway. The contractors have raised this up 4 inches (so it is no longer dropped). I don't know where I stand in terms of my rights. Do I contact the council, the contractor etc. Can I assert any rights so they rectify this error?

    Thank you.

  • Will "old style pyro wires" burn out?

My parents house was built in the 1970's. Pyro wires have been used and there is no 'ring main.' There are only isolator switches in place. The system seems sound and works well. We brought them an electric oven and there was no 'proper' way of wiring this into the main system. My father having spoke with an electrician friend said that it would be fine to plug into the wall socket and run as long as other things such as kettles, dryer, washing machine were not operated at the same time. So far my parents seem okay with the set up and I don't think there have been any concerns.

I of course got worried and consulted an independent electrician when they were not arround. The electrician told me that the entire house needed new wiring. He quoted, £5,000 for a 2 bedroom house but what got to me was when he said: "The pyro wires will eventually burn out if they keep using the oven like that, the system will just overload and catch fire and you will be lucky if you find anyone who wants to touch this wiring."

So will the pyro wires really give up? The wires look in good shape to me. They are not brittled, scuffed or falling apart in any way whatsoever.

    Thanks.

  • Can I cut a hollow core door lengthways?

The company I ordered from sent me a 30" wide door instead of the standard 28"

I cut the door down from the bottom so it was the right height.

It's made from a combination of ply, MDF and cardboard.

It looks like the battons which go lengthways are about 1-1/2" wide.

If I took 1" off from each side would it compromise the structure? It's going to be used as a bedroom door.

Is there anyway to reinforce it? I was thinking foam filler but if I only have 1/2" remaining on each side then I would like it to be strong.

I have a table saw for the job.

    Many Thanks

  • OBD Port Security - How do I fry anything that connects?

I want to fry any diagnostic tool or reprogramming tool that attempts to connect to my OBD Port for security purposes. I want to be able to reverse this so I can prepare the car for when it goes into the dealers for service. I'm sure the dealer would not be pleased if it fried their equipment!

The car is an E90 BMW and this is an extra cautionary measure I want to take so I can sleep at night!

    Thank you.

  • Second movement is always diarrhea?

I've had this for more than 6 months now. I have experimented with my diet but had little joy. I have a bowel movement every day and it seems all fine and healthy. I then have breakfast. No matter what I eat, within half an hour I will have a second bowel movement and it is almost always diarrehea like.

My intestines always seem to be making a gurgling/burbling sound too after each meal.

I was previously prescribed meds for gastro-intestinal infection which helped. I was having really sharp pain in the abdomen at the time. This eased off and has not since returned. I have found that eating porridge helps me a huge deal too. If I go for a week or so without porridge in my breakfast then I can be sure to have some abdominal discomfort in the form of vibrating intestines which I find just strange - it is like having a mobile vibrate inside me intestines!

    Any advice or thoughts appreciated.

  • How much would removal of a felt roof and disposal of it cost for a bay window?

London prices... and the bay window is about 3 meters by 1.5 meteres. I have asked a lot of local companies (NFRC) who are unable to quote for this. The reason I ask is because... we are having a new EPDM roof installed on our bay window.

The quote for the works was £750 inclusive of VAT. The quote is broken down into bullet points but no cost is beside each one. The two that concern me are removal of previous roof and disposing of this.

This concerns me because the EPDM roof has gone over the previous felt material. Therefore, I do not see why I should pay for any quoted work which has not been carried out. I want to negotiate or know how much I should knock off from the £750 because of this.

I am guessing that disposal usually comes in at £50 and labour for removing a roof like this would be £100 or so.

Any ideas or guidance very much appreciated x
