what is the logic behind saying a gun is designed to kill?
I'd like a serious answer from someone who believes a gun is "designed to kill" or "only made for killing", and so on.
I ask because I just don't see the logic. If a person owns a gun and uses it for, let's say, target shooting, is the gun not doing what it is "designed to do"? Guns are made to fire bullets, and the vast, outrageous amount of bullets fired don't hurt or kill anyone. Are these guns malfunctioning or just not fulfilling their potential? I hear it all the time; "this gun is designed to kill" yet if that's true wouldn't the owners be dead?
12 AnswersPolitics8 years agoArmy to USMC question- what about my Army awards?
I've been in the US Army for almost 5 years and am considering going into the USMC.
I have several Army awards, such as Army Commendation medal, Army Good Conduct medal, National Defense, Iraq Campaign, Global War on Terrorism Service medal, Reserve Service Mobilization with "M" device, Army Service ribbon and Army Overseas Service..
If I joined the Marines (haven't signed any papers yet) what would my uniform look like? Would I be able to wear the medals I earned in the Army? Would they not be authorized at all? That would make me feel like a **** bag, getting a good conduct and commendation medal but not being able to wear them. Or would they transfer to Marine Corps Good Conduct medal and Naval Commendation medal?
Please answer with FIRST HAND info only. If you are a USMC recruiter, or you know someone who went from one branch to the Marines, add some input.
6 AnswersMilitary9 years agoWill this story test your faith? Did a God worth worshiping do this?
I've heard that religious folks believe your soul is in Heaven before you are born, and that is where it returns after you die. In the Bible, Jesus says all children may come to him. Clearly most religions like kids, babies, the innocents, etc.
I know a guy who had a baby. That baby suffered a stroke while still in the womb, and he was born severely handicapped. Right off the bat this kid had no chance at life. Surgeries have removed the entire left portion of his brain. Recently, both of his hips have fallen out of the sockets as a result of being confined to a wheelchair since birth. His family is partly relying on their church to pay for his double hip replacement.
Most people didn't donate, but they said "I will pray for him." They extolled the power of prayer.
I want to hear some believers tell me this doesn't make them think about God, and what he does. I am not a religious person, and cases like this are a huge reason why. How could I pray to, or believe in a God that did this to a child? A little baby had a stroke from within the womb. But he has the time to help Tim Tebow make those extra few million dollars..
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agowhat is needed to report disability fraud?
I know a woman who collects disability checks, but she is able bodied. I used to not care but recently she's been a real ***** to my wife and I so I want to see her cut off. After all, WE pay taxes and she is abusing the system.
She uses a cain to go to the doctor and she's got them beliving her to the point that the Dr performs home visits for her. I know she gets disability for a fact. Several times her checks have been put in my mail box, and she has said she collects.
But, she navigates the stairs in her home just fine. She takes her German shephard for walks. I have seen her briskly walking myself. AND I now have video of her climbing on top of a chair......... IN MY BEDROOM.
She's so snoopy she will actually invade my privacy to root around. Ive known she does this but I never had proof. Well just today I set up a trail camera in my bedroom, and sure enough.. my wife, daughter and I went out for dinner and I have her on camera in my bedroom. She moved a large sofa chair and tried to take down a model airplane I have suspended from the ceiling. She rooted through some of my paperwork. She stood in my daughters room and just left.
Also she's got a terrible attitude and she has unnecessarily started problems with my wife.
Home invasion aside, if I show this video to SSI will that be enough? She did move a chair, climbed on top of it and stood, balancing herself trying to remove a model airplane. I don't want her to know it was me (but I am willing to sacrifice that to report her) and I want to be certain that her disability checks stop.
I am aware of the SSI fraud hotline number and website. I want to know if this will be enough, or what other evidence I need.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agorecurring combat related dream?
Some background: I've been in the Army 4 and a half years, completed one tour to Iraq. I had this dream for the first time maybe 6 months after returning home and it happens randomly up until the present. Last night I had one so it's on my mind. It's hard to give an estimate of how many times I've had this dream in particular, because sometimes it's several a week and sometimes I go weeks without.
I imagine myself in a war zone. What's weird is the war zone is not consistent, one time I remember I was a German soldier in Poland in 1939, another time I was fighting against US Marines in my house, another time I was a US soldier in Iraq fighting insurgents, and another time I think I was in the Civil War. Weird, right?
Anyway, as I'm running around doing my thing I see an enemy soldier or insurgent, I aim my weapon and I can actually feel myself squeeze the trigger... but here's the bothersome part. The weapon malfunctions. I hear a "click" and either the firing pin is broken, or it's jammed, or the round is a dud. For some reason I am unable to re-load so I just keep squeezing the trigger again and again, and as hard as possible. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and I have to move to cover and concealment before getting myself "killed".
It bothers me because in my dream I start really panicking, so when I wake up I have that "in combat", panicked feeling and sometimes it ruins my entire day.
Just sharing to see if anyone has dreams such as this, or maybe any input to offer.

4 AnswersMilitary9 years agoIf today gasoline cost 99 cents/gallon, would you have supported the Iraq War?
A lot of people cry "no blood for oil" and think we invaded to "steal their oil". Maybe they don't know that not one single drop of Iraqi oil comes into the USA. Not one drop. But let's say that the Iraq War was about oil, and that we did take it once we got there. Let's say that because we are taking oil (not having to buy it) price at the pump is a steady .99 cents per gallon for regular unleaded. How would YOU feel about that?
I am an Iraq War veteran, and I would be damn happy if my war resulted in .99 cent per gallon gas. When I ask some anti-Iraq war people that question, they seem to get uncomfortable because they would be directly benefiting from it, and they would be happy to do so. Imagine if the pro-War people got to use the .99 cent gas pumps while anti-War people had to use $3.50 per gallon pumps. Attitudes change when you have something to gain.
6 AnswersPolitics9 years agoWhy do people think certain possessions (guns, specifically) are "compensating" for subconscious inadequacies?
trucks, guns, tattoos, bikes, sports paraphernalia, boats, big houses, all the stereotypical "big boy toys"... we men own these things for various reasons, and sometimes I hear jokes that I'm "compensating for something" and I don't really know how to reply. If it were my friends I would just joke back, but strangers or people I have met for the first time or second time say these things and I don't know why they would ask me something dumb like that. (Mostly it's co-workers that I am being social with for the first time and maybe they don't know how to respond to being around guns.)
95% of the time it comes up because of my guns, I own quite a few, do some people think it's because I'm secretly insecure about something or that I have a small wiener? My question is two fold; 1, do people honestly think this or are they just trying to break the ice? (Because it isn't ever followed up with a punch-line.( And 2, If someone does believe that guns (trucks, boats, etc) are compensators, why? Why do they think an insecure person would gravitate to firearms and not collecting coins or stamps? I'm young, my wife sticks around and we have a child so I don't see why someone would assume I have wiener problem because I like guns. This isn't a big problem I have but I am curious about the discussion/answers the internet world will give.
5 AnswersSociology9 years agoWhy isn't Wayne Gretzky playing in the Rangers - Flyers alumni game?
Every hockey fan would love to see Gretzky on the ice, and he knows it. I am a Flyers fan and I want to see Gretzky play. He played in the Oilers alumni game, why not for the Rangers?
