  • Is the Amazon, target, etc "general strike" still going on?

On May 1 there was a "general strike" where workers for Amazon, Instacart, Target, and other major retailers went on strike to protest for safer working conditions and more transparency about COVID cases. I support blue collar workers, so I didn't buy anything from those businesses that day, and was told not to buy anything from Amazon in the lead-up to it either. Is the strike an ongoing activity or was it a one-day thing? I haven't heard about any businesses announcing new safer policies but I also haven't heard anyone say to continue to avoid those businesses. There are a few things I need to get from Amazon, so I want to order ASAP, but I can wait if the strikes are still ongoing.

  • Which would you recommend, Spotify Premium or Google Play Music?

I've used Pandora to discover new Music for years now, but recently its recommendations have gone stale and I'm sick and tired of A) the ads and B) the inability to choose what songs to play. Several friends of mine have recommended Spotify Premium, but I was wondering if Google Play Music would be a good substitute? If I remember correctly it's cheaper, and gives you some access to video streaming as well, but does Google Play recommend you new music like Spotify does? My primary focus is recommendations for new tracks, which is why I'm not looking into Pandora Premium, as Pandora has already stopped giving me new recommendations.

  • What state can I register to vote in?

I m 18 years old (will be 19 in March and by the time or the 2016 presidential election) and am currently not registered to vote. I definitely want to vote in the upcoming election, so I d like to register in time to do so. There s just one problem: I don t know what state to register in.

I have a Philadelphia birth certificate, though I realize that doesn t mean anything here.

I grew up (and reached legal voting age) in Illinois, and currently have a valid Illinois driver s license.

In July, my family moved to Portland, Oregon. My name was included on the lease, so my legal permanent residence has been in the state of Oregon for about six months.

As of September, I m in college at a state school in Massachusetts, where I spend most of the year. My dorm is, obviously, listed as my mailing address.

So what state do I register to vote in? I spend most of the year in Massachusetts, but my legal residence is in Oregon, and my state ID is from Illinois. I assume I need to get an Oregon ID next time I go home, and register in that state, my state of residence, but I wanted to be sure, especially since I m not likely to BE in Oregon at the time of the election.

  • I have 2 questions about embryos/embryonic stem cells?

I have a big debate coming up in my English class this week. I got to pick my topic and i chose stem cell research (unfortunately, however, i didn't get to pick what side of the argument I'm on, and as a result am forced to argue that embryonic stem cell research should be made illegal).

I have 2 important questions that will help me fine-tune my points in the debate.

    1) At what point (time frame, preferably after conception) does the embryo develop a distinct heartbeat?

    2) At what point after fertilization do stem cell researchers remove the stem cells from a developing embryo/begin to do experiments on it?

    Any info would be helpful.

Also, if you want to share your opinions/views on stem cell research (and any supporting facts) that would be fantastic.

  • How hard is Adobe After Effects?

So as of recently I decided to try out Adobe After Effects. I've seen someone use it before and it doesn't seem terribly complicated, but I want to know how hard it is to use coming from someone else. Like, on a scale of 1 to 10.

Oh, also what would be a good way to get the program? I saw you can get the program for one year for $50, but a temporary pass seems sorta useless. I know buying the program costs over $500 so I thought about thepiratebay.org but if you can think of anything better (or at least more legal) then i'd prefer that.

    Thanks!

  • How do you set up a WiFi network (with more than one router)?

My family has AT&T and they set up our WiFi Router in the corner of the basement (which was pretty much the only place they could have set it up easily). The problem is our house is pretty big, so about 1/3 of the house has a mediocre WiFi signal and another third has no signal whatsoever. We have an old Apple AirPort from back before we had AT&T and an ethernet jack in the opposite corner of the house from the current router.

How do i set up the AirPort so it acts as a second antenna for the same network?

  • Volume control buttons not working?

I have an HP Pavilion dm4-2070 laptop. All of a sudden, the mute button and the buttons to make the volume go up and down stopped working completely. When i press the up/down buttons they act like a combination of arrow keys and the escape key. The mute button does nothing except for light up when I mute the volume manually in the settings. does anybody have any idea what's wrong and how I can fix it?

  • How to increase Java's virtual memory? (for Minecraft :D )?

I just updated Minecraft to 1.3.1, and suddenly i'm getting the ol' "Minecraft has run out of memory" error message. I've never had this problem before so I'm assuming it's because the LAN server feature that was added takes up a lot of RAM. I remember seeing some way to increase the memory allocation for Java when i was reading about the LB Photo Realism texture pack a while ago, but i didn't do anything with it because i didn't think I'd evr need it. I know my PC can handle it, it has 8 GB of RAM and there's NO WAY Minecraft will use that much.

So, How do I increase the virtual memory limit on Java?

  • GBA Emulator time support help?

I recently downloaded the VisualBoyAdvance emulator for my computer. I downloaded Pokemon Sapphire and have been playing it for a while now. The biggest problem I've run into is that the game repeatedly diaplays the message that "the game's battery is run dry, time based events will no longer happen."

This would be fine normally but what's driving me crazy is that my favorite place in the game is Shoal Cave. Shoal cave has actual tides, which run on the game's internal battery. Since the game has no internal battery, the tides don't happen, and some parts of the cave are totally inaccesible. Is there any fix for this, either with the emulator or with the game file?

  • What is Sprint's policy on rooting?

I have the HTC EVO 4G and originally I was going to keep the original software, but after lots of frustration and the realization that EVERYONE roots their phone, I've decided to go for it. My one question is, will doing this void any contract with Sprint? I have a phone replacement plan and if it will completely void that (or worse, the cell contract) then i won't root it. I don't feel like digging through Sprint's "Terms or Conditions" so does anyone know what sprint's rooting policy is?

  • What was the significance/use of New Zealand when it first became a British colony?

Okay, i hate it when people use this site to do their homework but this is a really minor question so i'll ask it anyway. I'm studying Australia and New Zealand and their significance when they were first colonized by the British. I know about Australia (it was a penal colony, they had gold, etc.) but besides the fact that it's now sheep central I have no idea about New Zealand's significance. What did the British use the island(s) for when they were first colonized? Were they used mostly for sheep farming then too, or were they more significant?

  • What is the next Call of Duty going to be?

A while ago one of my friends said that the next COD was going to be all-zombies, which sounds epic. The thing is I don't know if its true or not. I just googled Call of Duty and I couldn't find anything about upcoming versions on the official site or Wikipedia. The only other thing I've heard is on some website post asking what games people were looking forward to, some guy answered "Call of Duty Iron Wolf". Is any of this true?

  • Weird question... Whats a good name for a fake town?

My friend and I play on a Minecraft server with towns. He's building his own, but no one can think of a good name. Since it's in a "plains biome" there isn't any good biome related name we could pick, so options are limited. We thought of Asgard, Birchwood, and a few other options but nothing we/he likes. He thought of Daggerfall but that's an Elder Scrolls game so that's out.

The server is medieval themed so any good, plains related, medieval sounding names would be incredibly helpful. Thank you

  • Minecraft Users: What are your favorite multiplayer servers?

I like to draw things out so if you want the simple question skip to the bottom.

Okay, so here's the story. I usually use two servers, Freedomcraft (One of the top 10 rated Minecraft servers) and World of Eldin (a lot less popular but still fun). Freedomcraft deleted their server data, changed their faction plugin settings, reset the map, and changed their name to Justicecraft. Things on there won't get back to normal for quite a while. World of Eldin's map file got corrupted, so the map is reset to a much much more basic version with only the main spawn area and one or two cities still standing. Now I have no multiplayer server to use without having to start from scratch, and by the time I'm done both will be back normal anyways.

Point is, what multiplayer servers do you use and would suggest to me while those two are down?

  • What is ATP, a solid, liquid, or somethimg else?

No, I am not asking this for help with my biology homework. I was just wondering what it is because all they told us in biology is that cellular respiration (in the mitochondria or cytoplasm) produce waste products (CO2, H2O, etc.) and energy in the form of ATP. But WHAT IS ATP?! Is it like liquid energy or something?

  • Can I update my HTC evo 4G to Ice Cream Sandwich?

I googled the heck out of this question for a solid half hour. I know that the source code for ICS was released (although that affects developers more than users) but I can't tell if the software is ready to put on phones or not. apparently HTC isnt putting out an official update until early 2012 so if anyone knows a website I can download compatible software from I would very much appreciate it.

Long story short: Is it possible to put ICS on my Evo 4G manually?

  • Does anyone know the name of this movie?

Okay, a while ago me & my friends were talking about the worst movies we've ever seen. One of my friends said he saw some movie in Canada a long time ago (about 6 years) that sucked. All he remembers is that at one point there was some lady chained up on the other side of a fire pit or something like that. They had to jump over the fire pit (or something to get over it), and then they unchained the lady and jumped back. The whole time some holographic face was watching them and when they made it it screamed "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" in a really cheesy manner. Then they flew away on flamingo-shaped hovercraft-things. Does anyone know what this movie is called?

  • Does Sprint charge for USB Tethering?

I know most Sprint services are free, like GPS and 4g, but they charge $30 a month for using your phone as a mobile hotspot. When I plug my phone into my PC, one of the options is USB tethering, but I don't know if that's included or costs extra.
