  • Would making a qipao with white designs on it be considered bad luck for Chinese New Year?

I want to send a couple that graciously let me stay in their home while visiting and caring for their dog (in the USA) something for their daughter on Chinese New Year. She and I were both born in the year of the dragon and my mother is making me an outfit with a beautiful design that I would like to also purchase and make an outfit for their daughter. It is a bright sky blue with white dragons embroidered on it. Should I just send a red envelope and candy instead since there is white on it or make the outfit and red envelope for her. Should I send the couple a gift also so as not to show favoritism to their daughter? They are fairly modern but their family is not so I want to make sure I do nothing taboo.

  • Can an employee use an electric vacuum while people are still eating?

I understand the need for cleanliness but my husband is deeply disturbed by a restaurant we go to that has employees vacuum the floor while we are eating. No, it is not closing time- last time it was during lunch. He feels/knows that the filters on their cheap $40 quick sticks allows dust to be blown into the air which in his mind then lands on his food. The noise level of them is also disturbing as it interrupts conversations. I told him to talk to a manager but he got sick and went to the car so I wondered if there were any regulations about using an electric vacuum as opposed to the small floor sweepers that are manual during business hours.

  • What do we charge someone with for stealing our cellphone?

In October we let a former co-worker and his 8 mo. pregnant girlfriend stay with us after they got thrown out of another friends house and his dead moms apartment. They ran our utility bills up and broke one of my dishes (which they claimed I had left in my old house 4 hours away but that is another story). We left them at our house while we went across state for Thanksgiving, when we got back we noticed that our extra cell phone was missing. They claimed to have no idea where that was either even though it was in the house when we left. Right after she gave birth we kicked them out and called Verizon to shut off the phone. When we called there had been 3 phone calls made from it but Verizon did not shut it off the employee must have forgotten! We got a call today and by happenstance the Verizon worker mentioned that phone was still on. It has been used basically every other month up until the 7th which is when the last set of calls were made. The phone is officially suspended now and we are calling the police as soon as my husband wakes up (he just had surgery on his ankle, stupid Quads) but we want to charge them with everything we can for this. We trusted them and gave them a place to live so that a pregnant person wouldn't have to live on the street, the girl picked a crappy boyfriend that was trying to get back with an ex while she was with me at the hospital in labor. He is on parole(?) and we want to make sure that he can't steal from anyone else.

  • Is there any way I can put turns in my dog trolley?

I am putting in an invisible fence when the mud is gone. An actual fence is NOT an option because we live back in the woods and have 2 acres. Right now though I am installing a dog trolley. I saw years ago someone that had a trolley with turns in it so the dog could go around the house. I can't contact them but I remember it had like a pulley wheel so the zip line would not get caught. I tried the net but couldn't find any references. I was wondering if anyone else had done this and if they could give some instructions. I don't want her to be able to get near some trees and tangle herself.

  • Am I married to my job really?

My boyfriend has been saying for the past few weeks that I am married to my job. I work for a breeder walking her dogs and training/showing them. There were 3 people including myself doing this but one was fired because of a lapse into alcohol so that leaves I and the other woman with every day until someone new is hired, one from 11-3 and the other from 5-8 or 9. It used to be 9-12 and 12-4 or 5. Ive been negotiating with her about having the "morning" on thursdays because those are the only days my boyfriend and I have to spend together because of school. He says we can change that but there really aren't any other good days for either of us. He says that I'm always at my bosses beckon call but I have turned her down before a good few times when I was busy but she calls me since the other woman has a second job and sometimes can't come. I always ask him before I say yes I can (if I am at his house) but he is acting like I just run out the door without so much as a goodbye. All she asks when she calls is for me to let the puppies out (10 week olds can't hold it forever) and leave, its pretty quick. What I don't think he gets is that she is spending most of her days after work with a PI because of an embezzlement issue and she sometimes does not get back until after 10 to me that is perfectly reasonable if she cannot get the other woman to come but if I am doing anything important I do tell her I can't. She usually called and asked me to come at around 8 or so but he acts like I am leaving for the rest of the night.

So do I need a dose of reality and I am married to my job or is he just overreacting a little too much?

  • Does this make sense?

I have a quote from someone and Id like to know whether it sounds sane or not. Im going to post my human "equivalent" after it...

"Im taking the tail out from between its legs because that creates fear." - In reference to a dog.

Taking a persons hands off their head when they are cowering in fear makes them less fearful.

So does that quote seem in any way shape or form correct?

If you know who said it please dont post their name Id rather not have a bias, consider this a poll.

  • How to stop procrastinating?

I looked through other answers and all of the good ones contained my one weakness- keeping an object to remind me of stuff. Ive been late for everything my whole life, literally, I was born 2 weeks late, I was always late for school, and I was even late for my own grad party. I cant get past it no matter how many times I try. I used to keep a scheduler because I have a fairly short memory but I lost it and then every following one since. Ive lost 3 cell phones within 9 months of each other and accidentally left one in my friends car and had to have it shipped back to Pa from Michigan, which was really fun. But the problem is that I always start getting things done almost right and then something throws it all off balance especially since I always lose things. So far the only thing I haven't lost is my super special metal pencil that I use for drawing (on the rare occasions I freehand anymore curse the computer age) and even that has disappeared a few times. I just feel so horrible because I know that my problem is hurting other people and especially my academic career but I just never seem to succeed at beating it. I try my hardest to keep track of and keep up on planners when I have them but they always get lost (or in one case stolen) even when I keep them in a single place. The biggest problem with my procrastination I think is that I get more stuff done at night, hence the reason Im posting this at 4 am, and Im generally more aware of what I have to do but I cant go to college at 3 am much less work at this time. I used to write on myself but since Im an artist I dont keep pens since I like to fix my mistakes even if its a doodle and people nagged me to death for it even if I didnt know them- I got tired of that really fast. It worked really well when I had a pen or sharpie on me to jot it down but the 6+ people a day that "comment" at the college is too much. So are there any suggestions that dont need planners and arent "Ill get back to you on that", my future is at stake and I am really disheartened seeing it slipping away. Thanks

  • Kitten rearing help- special rescue?

My aunt sister and I saved one of the wild cats kittens. It is 4 weeks old but is the size of a 2 week old kitten. Its mother is horrible last year she didnt take one of her kittens out of its sack, the other cats raised her litter. They havent been able to trap and spay her though she really really needs it. When we saved it its eyes were crusted shut and it had WHITE mucousy diarrhea. My aunt has raised other kittens before but this one was the worst and most different shes seen.

    Now the questions:

Weve had it for going on 4 days now and though its not white mucousy diarrhea anymore, that ended when we first fed it, it still seems to have the runs, how soon should we see it clearing up?

How soon should I start to see growth?

And finally what can I do about the fur on its rear? Its tail and hind legs are matted down its going to be a LH but the fur wont fluff after cleaning it with water, is it safe to use a small drop of Dawn?

Lastly it is on Amoxy and its eyes are cleared...

  • Can you register a Mini/Toy or Mini/Standard Poodle (or Schnauzer) mix?

Dont worry its not me its this idiot- http://www.thegoldendoodles.net/clifford.htm

He fits the size for a Standard Poodle but hes not entirely standard poodle. Should they have been able to register him with the AKC since his parents were different varieties.

I dont know if its me but I consider them all 3 separate breeds since I wouldnt think it would be right to mix a Bull Terrier and a Miniature Bull Terrier how could it be right to mix a Mini and a Standard.

Well excluding Cockers, would it be acceptable with any breed that has different size varieties?

  • Tail Pulled or broken will it need amputated (opinions)?

Disclaimer: She will be going to a vet in the morning please dont throw me that I dont own her and hate E-vets. Also I know you guys arent vets I just want a little reassurance that she wont need it amputated as her show career would be compromised.

Tonight at work I finally figured out what was wrong with the puppy (1 year old) when it occured to me that she was favoring her tail/rear. I muzzled her for safety and gently lifted at the base a bit to see if it was sore, she yelped a little and tried to bite at my hand. So then I went down her tail putting a little pressure on it to see if she reacted which didnt seem to bother her but when I tried straightening it near the middle she screamed. There is no swelling but Im just really worried that she pulled something or broke it. So does anyone think that she made need an amputation or will they just have her bed rest to let it heal?

  • Metabolism creating muscles with minimum exercise?

I barely exercise if you call walking from classes (about 250+ steps) exercise but my friends have been commenting on my hard abs and 4 or 6 pack. I dont do crunches I make a minimum effort to try exercising because of my horrible stamina and I really dont eat right or at all. I guess my question is does anyone else have this, if you will, problem and Id just like to learn a little more about metabolism and processing in humans since animals are my forte and some of the differences in terminology confuse me.

  • Sites with lists of Rat breeders?

Ive been looking for sites with lists of rat breeders in PA, I checked petfinder, AFRMA, and NARR(?) and the only available rats were rescues, tailed, or groups. Im hoping to find a tailless or blazed single rat to buy near me that may be shipped or met halfway and isnt over 2 years. Does anyone else know of a list of breeders and their sites that I can look through?

  • Show-ers that know about Poms... hair falling out?

So my sister works for a professional handler and that handler does show Pomeranians (and owns the most un-Pomeranian Pom I have ever met, he thinks hes a cat) she has been telling me that some of the new "Puffy", as best I can describe, Poms that are currently winning in the rings have their hair falling out at 3 and 4 years old. Now I believe her since she does work for a professional handler (who is quite big in the Pom ring) but I cant seem to find anything on google or goodsearch about it. I figure theyd keep it under-wraps since they dont want people to know about this defect with that coat type but I would think there has to be at least 1 article on it... so can anyone give me some more info or an article? I cant ask my sister shes going to the Cleveland show in the morning and I wont see her since they banned Bullies there and I suspect that the other Bull people are boycotting since my boss isnt going.

    Thanks

  • Allergy? Intolerance?

I dont know what to call this, I am 100% serious, but I seem to have inherited some form of a food intolerance or allergy... I can no longer eat certain cooked vegetables if I do I spend the next day throwing everything back up. I digest everything but the offending food and the last time I spent a whole day throwing up cooked onions that had been on a burger the night before. My boss, who is a homeopathic doctor, thinks it is a gluten allergy but I can eat bread and almost anything else without problem. Does anyone else have this or know what causes it? My parents have it too but I seem to have gotten the worst of it. They have 2 or 3 veggies they cant eat cooked I have spinach, asparagus, brusselsprouts, onions, and I suspect green beans are working their way on the list. I can eat them fine if they are raw and I really like asparagus, especially cooked T T so this is quite a problem for me especially at restaurants.

  • Can I show a fixed rat? Anyone in the show circuit help please :)?

I dont currently have rats to show but my fiance suggested I get into it since I am obsessive about dogs and its probably not a good idea to show dogs (wont get into it). But the thing is I dont like having unspayed rats- I searched all through the 2 Rat Fanciers websites and could not find any by-laws stating whether it was legal to show fixed rats. Does anyone in the show circuit know if its acceptable to show spayed/neutered rats?
