If doubling my exertion while swimming yields a 10% increase in speed, conventional intuition would say that quadrupling my effort would yield a 20% increase in speed; however, this does not occur if you compound the effect. For instance, doubling effort once would yield a speed of 110%. Doubling again would increase that new base speed by 10% to a total of 121% of the original speed rather than 120%. Would you get a different result if you exerted 1.5 times your original exertion and then exerted 2.6667 times that (quadrupling your initial exertion)?

In short, how can you predict the aforementioned question: If doubling effort yields a ten percent increase, what does quadrupling do? What does multiplying your effort by 1.5, 2.6667, or any variable x do?

Normally, you use a comma when combining two independent clauses. What do you do when you have two independent clauses but both require the initial modifier as in the following?

I played NHL 2k10 on the wii last year, and the motion sensory made the game play awful. I'm thinking about buying FIFA 2010 for the wii, but I'm worried that it will have the same awful gameplay. Is it any good.
