  • Taskbar buttons have disappeared in Windows XP - how do I get them back?

On most computers running Windows XP, whatever programs you have open appear as buttons on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen so you can navigate between them, but for some reason this is't happening. Is there a specific setting for this, or a conflict that might be stopping it working? How do I get the buttons back?

  • Hints and tips for recovery from Glandular Fever?

A friend of mine was diagnosed 4 weeks ago and after much improvement early on is now fretting as she's still weak, gets dizzy spells and abdominal pains. She's apparently sleeping minimum 10hrs a night but says it feels more like 3. Any helpful hints/tips *other than* rest and patience gratefully received.

  • Non-bio detergent for washing silk sleeping bag liner?

I've just bought a new silk sleeping bag liner and the manufacturer recommends hand washing with non-bio detergent a couple of times before using it. Can anybody recommend one? There's been no answer from the manufacturer and I'm going camping in a few days!

  • Vegetarian no-cheese potluck recipes please!?

I have to provide a main dish for a “pot luck” type dinner where 2 of the vegetarian guests are allergic to cheese although not to other dairy products or eggs. I need to keep it relatively simple to tempt less adventurous omnivores, and preferably make in advance as kitchen space and time are limited...

  • Anybody know of a shop/website that sells decent outdoor wear for "traditionally built" ie plus-size ladies?

I'm a UK size 26 and looking for a pair of sturdy, lightweight trousers (preferably dark blue) that won't get totally ruined if I wear them while camping and hiking in Switzerland. I'm aware that most brands think we fat folk live in jeans and tracky bottoms, but neither of these is appropriate for me to go and climb mountains in!

How do the government or any of these companies expect us large people to get out doors and do active stuff to get fit if we can't get suitable equipment, which in my view includes clothing?!

  • Can I charge an Olympus camera battery in the camera?

May be getting an Olympus MJU850 SW camera, does anybody have one, and if so can you charge the batteries in situ or do you HAVE to take them out and use the charger?

If I can charge the battery while in the camera, what kind of lead should I get?

  • What are the rules on hot foods after a wisdom tooth extraction?

Probably a stupid question, I know, but I'm having an upper left tooth taken out tomorrow and I've been told soft food only for 1 week and no hot drinks. All very well, but where does soup fit into this, and can I have mashed potato or am I stuck with yoghurt and soggified Weetabix? Must I resort to cold babyfood to survive?

  • Why does the IP connection keep failing?!?

Friend of mine has a laptop running Windows Vista. For some reason, her broadband connection seems to be dropping when accessing pretty much any page apart from Yahoo

(including the homepage!), and there are no apparent security restrictions that would block access to sites like msn. Could this be a router issue, and if so, how do we sort it out? NB wireless settings have recently been monkeyed with by her ignoramus little sis but no idea what exactly she's done.

  • How do I prevent multiple copies of the same file being opened on a particular computer/by a specific user?

On our network we have some shared files eg MS Access databases which can be opened by multiple users, but I'm worried about data integrity as one user in particular seems to have multiple copies of the same database open on their desktop at once. Is there a way to stop this happening without adding more software or making serious changes to the network?

NB: The user involved is an older person who claims to know a lot more than they do, and swears blind there is no likelihood of damage to data and we're just being mean. Physical violence is also not an option (sigh).
