  • Company error lead to me owing 700 dollars in Federal taxes?

My company's payroll service entered my w4 information wrong. They entered MARRIED with 1 exemption when it should have been SINGLE with 1 exemption. My w4 is correct, the error must have happened when they entered the info into the computer. I noticed the lower withholding and was told that it must be due to the Making Work Pay credit that was put into place. Now we find out that it was a company error. They apologized, but thats it. I feel as though they should have to pay this money since it was not my error AND I noticed it and questioned them only to have them reassure me it was correct. Is there a law that requires them to report your w4 info correctly and be held responsible if they do not?

  • Package delivered to my old address?

My uncle sent my daughter's birthday present to an old address. We have not lived there for 3 years so I don't know what he was thinking. It was shipped through UPS a month ago and a signature was not required. I'm planning on knocking on thier door and asking for it back. I have a feeling they will deny ever receiving it. Is there anything I can do after that? Do the same laws apply to opening UPS packages that apply to USPS? I know they have a child, so I'm almost positive that they opened it and kept it. This really upsets me because I always write return to sender on mail that is not mine. I realize this was not thier fault but how hard is it to call ups and tell them to pick up the package they dropped off? I would never keep someone elses package.

  • Help with APA style citations?

I'm doing a paper and I'm trying to do an in-text citation for some funding information I found on a government website. I've found the format for the reference page, I just can't find the format for the in-text citation. Can anyone help me out?

Since there is no author, I'm lost. Would I need to put the website name in that citation or save that for the reference?

APA style is going to be the death of me, lol

  • What is your opinion of the role a social worker plays in society?

I need to know your personal opinion of what a social worker does. Even if you don't have any direct experience with one or have had a negative experience every opinion counts. No need to go into details if you do not want to. I just need the general opinion. I'm doing a paper for my class. Thanks

  • Should our landlord be able to do this?

We have lived in our current house for 2 years now. Upon signing the original lease the landlord asked us if we had any pets. We told her two cats. She then told us that having two cats would increase our rent by $20. She had originally told us the property was pet friendly and never mentioned any additional charges. We decided not to argue it because we did like the house. Now 2 years into our lease she is still charging us $20 per month. Shouldn't there be a cap to how much she can collect for pet damage? Our pets have not done any damage to date but she not only has $670 security deposit but she now also has $480 from our monthly pet deposits. We signed a separate addendum to this where she calls this extra $20 per month a "monthly pet deposit".

I am going to ask her about it I'm just not sure how to approach the subject with her. We have no intentions of moving and I worry about how much money we will be paying if we stay here for say 10 years. That means that we will have paid $2400 more than if we would not have told her we have pets.

I know that since we signed the lease it makes it legal but should she be able to charge an extra 20 per month indefinitely?

  • Other party refusing to cooperate after fender bender.?

I was in a fender benderin January. I had damage the other car did not. Since then it has been a nightmare trying to get the repairs paid for. The accident was 100% the other parties fault. (She backed into me while my car was at a stop in a parking lot.) She tricked me into not getting her insurance info at the scene. I had her cell phone # but she then refused to speak with my insurance company. She did not know that I wrote her plate # down so my insurance company was able to track her down and notify her insurance company of the incident.

The problem is now she is trying to blame me for the accident. She now says that she has damage on the side of her car and that she was 3/4 of the way out of her spot when I came along and plowed into her. Her insurance company is giving me a hard time.

Can she be charges by the police for failure to cooperate? I probably should have gotten them involved the day it happened. After that my insurance company said that they would handle it. I assumed that she would have to pay some consequenses for not reporting the accident. I'm just not sure if the police would get involved at this point or not. Any advice?

PS - I'm in Pennsylvania if that matters.

I can't afford to pay the deductible right now otherwise I would just have my innsurance fix the car and deal with her. I can't risk not getting reimbursed for it.

  • Security deposit laws?

Is there a law that requires utility (cable) companies to keep your security deposit in an interest bearing account? I live in Pennsylvania if that makes a difference. Also is it legal for them to refuse return of the deposit.

The company's "policy" is that the bill needs to be paid in full on time for 6 consecutive months. They kept telling us that the payment was received a day late in one of those months. We cancelled service in December and they then told us they had no record of a security deposit. After we proved that we paid one they now are telling me that it will take 3 to 5 WEEKS for us to get our money.

Is that legal? Is there a law that states how long they have to return our deposit?

  • Dream that I forgot about christmas, what does it mean?

I had a dream last night that it was Dec 23 and I had forgot all about Christmas. I was at work (a place I no longer work at) and everybody had a present for the owner except me. Even a girl who hadn't worked there for more than a year showed up with a present. I was very upset that no opne had reminded me that Christmas was coming.

There was also a part where my supervisor had invited some war vets to the office for a meal as a holiday charity and was a little rude to them when they showed up.

It was a very strange dream, could it mean something?

  • bought a car that has a defect?

I bought a 2001 Honda CRV on November 1st. (the car came with a 60 day warranty) On November 14th I realized that the rear defogger did not work, this was the 1st time I used it.

The rear window was tinted when I looked at the car and for some reason the dealership took the tint off of that window before I picked the car up. I didn't think it was a big deal. I now suspect that they damaged the rear defogger removing the tint.

The dealership is refusing to replace the rear window (that is the only option at this point it cannot be repaired).

wouldn't they be liable to fix it since it is very soon after the purchase?

  • Ideas for holiday pictures. Any creative people?

I am taking my daughter for her yearly holiday pictures in a few weeks. I would like to see if anyone has any ideas. What would be cute for her to wear? Does not have to be dressy but I would still like it to be seasonal. What type of background? I want to keep things simple as she is getting older (she's 11).

I am not very creative and always end up with the same pic of her in a x-mas dress in front of a christmas tree backgound. It's getting old.

I was thinking maybe a white dress on a black background but that seems too simple. I don't know, what do you think.

Keep in mind that she is 11.

    Thanks!!

  • brake question. Does this seem right?

My mom owns a 1993 buick regal. The car seems to need brakes every year. She drives the car less than 5000 miles per year but she does drive it about every other day. (she lives in an area where everything is very close) My husband keeps saying they are going because she does not drive enough and that just does not make sense to me because it doesn't sit for more than a day at a time. We just replaced her rotors & pads (by we I mean my husband, lol) last year and now they are completely shot again. Could something be causing this or does it sound correct.

I have a newer car and I have not needed to replace my rotors yet. Just pads about every other year. I can't see how she is going through brakes like this. I am thinking that it might be this car as she never had this problem with any other car she owned.

    Thanks for any input

  • Gas oven smells of gas?

When I turned my oven on yesterday I noticed a strong smell of gas coming from it. I waited a few minutes and it did not get any better so I shut it off.

The smell only comes when the oven is ON. when I turn it off the smell goes away.

All of the pilots are lit

The burners work fine and do not smell like gas when on.

The oven warms up normally but I'm scared to use it because of the strong smell.

Any advice on what could possibly be wrong?

  • Extra payments towards auto loan?

Would it be better to pay an extra 1000.00 per year towards my auto loan or should I put that money into my savings account? Here are the details:

My car loan is 72 months @ 6% 315 per month

    My savings earns 3% apy

I would like to pat the car off early but I plan on keeping it for a very long time so that's not absolutely necessary.

Thanks for any advice, I don't quite understand all of this.

  • kidney/back pain question?

Every morning when I wake up I have terrible pain coming from my kidney area. It's equally on both sides. It usually goes away in a few hours after I'm up & moving although sometimes it sticks around all day. This has been going on for almost a year now. I have been to many doctors. No infection, no kidney stones, CT scan was done and an IVP. All tests were negative. The doctor ended up just giving me darvocet and said to take it when I'm in pain. I'm only 30. I'm very frustrated and need to figure out what is wrong with me but do not know where to go from here. I do not do any strenuous activities. I've seen a chiropractor and there is no sign of spinal problems. My mattress is only 3 years old and this pain came on suddenly less than a year ago so it can't be that.

Ant advice? I'm really tired of feeling like this every day.

  • Is this still good after a power outage?

  • Any creative people that can help with a halloween costume?

My daughter wants to be a marshmallow peep for halloween. Like this: http://family.go.com/halloween-costume-contest/uni...

The directions there are very vague. Any idea on what materials I can use for the body shape? I looked for foam blocks at the upholstery store but it would have cost me 140 bucks to get enough. I'm looking for a cheap solution here (if there is one, lol)

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

  • Question for others who have beed diagnosed with gall bladder problems?

I have been suffering from what started out as pain in my kidney area for over a year. I them started having random shooting pains above my belly button on the right side. They would come and go. I brushed those off as indigestion. They then became more frequent and accompanied by bloating for no reason. For the past few days I have not been able to eat much because I am so bloated and the pain keeps me from even feeling hungry.

I had a gall bladder sonogram the other day and it came back normal. I can't get in to see the doctor until the 22nd. Even though the pain is not severe, I cannot see myself going 2 more weeks like this just for the doc to send me for another test and the waiting begins again. When I told the nurse she advised me to go to the ER if I couldn't wait for the appointment. I fear that they will just brush me off since my pain is not severe or debilitating.

I guess I'm just frustrated with the slow process and cannot understand why it takes so long to get a diagnosis for this.

Has anyone else gone through it? Any advice?

  • Stackable washer/dryer leaking?

Our stackable washer dryer combo has been leaking periodically. Since it does not happen every time I'm puzzled. It's not a leaking a lot either. You can just see the concrete underneath and surrounding a few inches is wet. No puddles or anything.

Anyone have an idea of what the problem could be?
