  • Do you fear being physically hurt by people who are bigger and stronger than you?

I am a small female, and I would say the the vast majority of adults are larger and stronger than me and could so easily hurt me if they wanted to.  I’ll be in a room with someone and think “gee, I hope this person doesn’t have bad intentions because if they wanted to harm me, I probably wouldn’t be able to defend myself.” It’s just nuts to think about how most people I see throughout my days could so easily take advantage of me and hurt me, and the only one of two things is stopping them: either they truly are a good person and don’t want to hurt me or they are scared of the consequences that would come from hurting me. These are the kind of unsettling thoughts I have.

  • Has anyone here actually peed on a stick at a gas station?

I see that happen in movies a lot. Have you ever actually bought a pregnancy test at a gas station and used it in their bathroom before leaving the building? And were you pregnant?

  • Is Uber a valid means of transportation in Myrtle Beach, SC?

I am taking a vacation there and was planning to go to Ripley’s Aquarium and Myrtle Beach State Park. I wanted to make sure I would be able to get around while vacationing there.

  • How do I ask my landlord if I can get a pet?

I moved into an apartment complex last month. Pets are allowed here. It says so online, where I found the amounts for the monthly pet rent and the pet deposit. I also have seen residents walking there dogs outside. When I moved in, my landlord asked me if I have pets. When I said no, she told me to let her know if I plan to adopt any pets and how I would need to pay some additional amounts like I mentioned above. So I would like to adopt a kitten. How do I ask my landlord/let my landlord know that I am planning to adopt a kitten?

  • Should I use a former landlord as a reference if we did not end on good terms?

My senior year of college, I lived in an apartment by myself. Up until the very end of the year, we were on good terms. I m a quiet person, who paid rent on time and didn t do anything wrong until the end. After having a good year without any landlord-tenant issues, he did not give me back my security deposit because I had not cleaned the place enough. I think the part that made him the most angry was that I did not vacuum. I just let it go and did nothing about it. I moved back in with my parents and now I am looking for my own apartment. I have not lived in any other apartments besides that one, so I do not have any other landlords to use as references. Should I not use him? If I use him, could that kill my chances of getting a new apartment? It s hard because up until the end, that landlord would have considered me a good tenant. I got a good job after college, so income/paying rent will not be an issue.

  • How could anyone run a 401K?

I love to run. It’s something that has always kept me healthy and I enjoy doing it. But it is still a lot of hard work! I train so much before a big race. I’ve run 5Ks and 10Ks and those are challenging enough! People casually talk about their 401Ks like it’s a piece of cake! How is that so easy for them to run? Does that take hours and hours and hours? That’s going to be my next challenge. Now how on Earth do I go about training for such a thing? Also, why is it 401? Why don’t they round it down to an even 400?

  • What is the procedure for returning the security deposit to a tenant?

If a landlord deducts from the security deposit, they would have to provide a written list of each damage that they are deducting, correct? Also, if a person did not clean, would this be grounds for not returning their security deposit? If a person did not vacuum, would that be grounds for not returning the security deposit? I would assume that these things would not fall under the category of damages. Of course it is proper etiquette for a tenant to clean and vacuum before they move out, but this does not justify a landlord keeping their entire security deposit, correct?

  • How do I tell someone that I don’t feel comfortable with them taking pictures of my assignments when the professor hands them back in class?

I’m doing well in this class so far and have gotten good grades on both quizzes. But each time the professor handed them back afterwards, the guy sitting next to me looks over at mine and sees that I have done well (which is already an invasion of my privacy) and then asks to see it. Both times, I’ve given it to him and he took out his phone and took pictures of my quizzes. I really don’t feel comfortable with this because 1) he will have my grades to look at forever and 2) I put hard work into those and I don’t like him taking it. Am I overreacting? How do I politely tell him that I don’t like this?

  • Why does drinking have to come with so much pressure and expectations?

I enjoy having a mixed drink sometimes at home, but going out to bars and parties always seems to entail pressure from peers and expectations that a certain amount of alcohol will be consumed. Why do people try to force other people to put something dangerous into their bodies? Shouldn't it be someone's own choice to have alcohol and ONLY their own choice? People expect their friends to drink a certain amount, even if they don't want to. Shouldn't a person have the right to drink only as much as they're comfortable with? Just imagine that you are at a friend's house with about 4 - 5 other people. Say the friend says, "Hey, I'm going to get myself a coke. Does anyone else want one?" Imagine you do not want coke and you say "No thanks." The friend would probably just accept that without any problems and go get themself a coke and drink it. Now, imagine that instead of coke, your friend brings out a bottle of vodka and asks, "Does anyone want a shot of vodka?" Say you don't want any vodka and you say "No thanks." Now, your friend is more likely to try to convince you to take a shot with them. They may say things like "Come on! It'll be fun!" or "You know you want to!" or "Don't be such a wimp!" Now why do they react differently when you turned down vodka then when you turned down coke? Why is alcohol such a big deal? Why can't people just drink or not drink in peace?

  • Should I forgive my boyfriend for ruining my 21st birthday?

It was Sunday night and we both had things to do in the morning, but he still agreed to take me out that night. I am not much of a social drinker, but I wanted to go to bar with him. He opened a tab and bought me a drink. I haven't had a lot of experience drinking, so I just asked the bartender to make me something fruity. After finishing that one, I wanted to wait before having another drink, but my boyfriend insisted I have another one, so the bartender made me another. Then, after playing darts, I told my boyfriend that I wanted a glass of water. I wanted some water between drinks to stay hydrated. This did not fly with him at all! He started making a huge deal about it because I would be having water, and he would be drinking alone. Once we went back to the bar and made these requests, I defended myself and told him that it's unfair for him to give me a hard time over simply wanting a glass of water. Then he continued to argue with me over how I will "never get drunk in my lifetime." He berated me until I started sobbing and ran to the bathroom. I couldn't stop. I came back out, still crying, and he seemed to feel bad. He decided to close the tab, because he assumed that I was done drinking for the night, but I wanted more! I just wanted water between drinks, and he didn't even ask me if I wanted to be done. I told him that I was frustrated about the water situation, but I still wanted more alcohol. He apologized, but this is huge! Should I forgive him?

  • Isn't it concerning when tv shows make jokes about serious things?

I am thinking about a particular scene of a show that I have been watching. The name of the show isn't the point. This couple was fighting, but they were also trying to get pregnant, so the woman still wanted to have sex, but the man didn't want to have sex while they were angry. Then the woman pretends that she's not angry anymore and they 'make up.' Afterwards she tells him that she was only pretending and of course he gets angry that she manipulated him into having sex. He tells his friend about it this, later. His friend laughs and jokes about how this isn't a bad thing. Then he starts laughing with him and makes a comment about how he is such a girl. So basically, this show is making light of sexual manipulation and then implied that it is only wrong if a girl is being manipulated, but it's a good thing if a guy is being manipulated. It just really got on my nerves and I couldn't let it go. Isn't this wrong?

  • Can tickling be considered harassment?

If a girl were being tickled a lot by some guy that she doesn t know well, that she met pretty recently, who has told her that he likes her as more than just a friend, would that be considered harassment? Would you go as far as to say that it s sexual harassment? It s clearly not just in a friendly way, it s more than that. And it s not just something little, like him just tickling her side for a second. He s got both his hands on either side of her and tickling her nonstop and she s scared. She hates it and feels violated and wants him to leave her alone. Is that sexual harassment?

  • What happens if you accidently leave a gas oven on for 4 hours?

Yes, I'm stupid, I know. I made French bread pizza and I forgot to turn the dial to Off. Once I realized, I turned it off, but I'm scared to open the oven now. I have no sense of smell (weird, I know) so I can't tell if my house is engulfed in gas. Will I be okay? Should I do anything else?
