  • Hubby is Christian and I was raised Jewish?

Although I feel little or no tie to anything Jewish due to horrible memories growing up of it being forced on me with violence (angry violent parents). I'm 44 now and have tried to have a decent relationship with my mom, who is an over bearing, over controlling narcissist. Even tho both of my parents are "Jewish" neither believes in a higher power and both are hostile (?) to Christianity. I, on the other hand have married an Evangelical Christian gentleman (8 yrs ago) and he has shown me love through a Father in Heaven I never knew existed. We now have 2 little boys and my mother has really revved up the "Your kids should ONLY be Jewish" stuff, freaking out yelling at me over any tiny "Christian" thing I do, even making Christmas cookies and taking the kids out to see light displays. She is so mean, yelling "how dare I go against what she values" when in truth I have found love and light in Christian people like I never found before, and yes, I enjoy having a Christmas tree! (That's about the ultimate sin to her).

She went off on me so badly just before Christmas. I used to want to show my kids Jewish traditions but after way she treated me I want nothing to do with anything Jewish anymore.

Is there a discussion forum for people in this situation?? I know there are millions of spouses of different religions but is there one to emotionally support a wife with a crazed, angry narcissistic Jewish mother who offers zero compromise?? I mean never in a million years would my MIL tell me not to allow my children to celebrate Hanukkah!

  • My 21 month old son does not talk. Should I be worried?

He does everything else fine, has eye contact & communicates with pointing, crying, etc, but has yet to utter a real word. He makes sounds like "baa" "gaa" & ALL kinds of vocalizations but no words, never even "mama" or "dada." His pediatrician thinks I'm worrying too early but every other toddler in my playgroup is already saying words. I got his ears checked at an audiologist and they found fluid behind each ear - but then got referred to an ear, nose & throat doc who said fluid has to be there for over 4 months before they consider it a problem, as fluid levels behind the ears fluctuate so he won't do anything till my son is re-tested in a few months.

Anyone else have experience with a child close to 2 still not talking?

  • Where can I find a Vintage Toy from 1969 or the 70's called a "Moon Wagon???"?

had one when I was a kid in the '70's and am now trying to find one for my son. It was round instead of the usual rectangular wagon, plus it was dark blue (and they may come in purple too). I have searched the usual search engines & websites like e bay online and can't fine one for sale anywhere. It may be a 1969 Big Boy Moon Wagon from what I've seen online). I had it in 1974 but not sure when or where it was from.

  • Is there any truth to microwaving food being bad for you?

Can microwaving food really change the chemical composition of it?

I'm trying to eat healthy for fertility (trying to get pregnant) and was told by a naturopathic doctor not to use the microwave because it changes the chemical composition of food and even water (???!!) so our bodies don't recognize the nutrients in food once it's microwaved. Is there any truth to this???

This same naturopath told me to not even use the microwave to heat up water!! How could the chemical composition of water possibly be changed from being heated in a micro?? (I heat water for tea)

  • Help! Psychotically scared German Shepherd is destroying the house! What can I do?

I'm so mad right now! Ok, I have a female GSD whom I love, about 7 or 8 yrs old who I've had 2 years(rescue dog so we don't know her exact age or where she came from). Saturday was my baby son's first birthday party and we had tons of catered food so we put the dog out in the yard, which is rare because 99.9% of the time she's with me inside. Well she couldn't handle that so she TORE OFF our outside garage door frame and did $700+ worth of damage, most likely because she heard baloons pop inside the house and for some reason has a mortal fear of any type of "bang" sound. Well my husband was REALLY mad (she's MY dog and has lots of health issues like needing $80 bags of dog food every 3 weeks so she won't get crystals in her urine, expensive daily Proin pills so she doesn't lose bladder control in the house, recently had to have ear surgery, just lots of issues).

Well just now she heard a thunder storm and freaked out, ran upstairs to try to be with me and tore through the baby gate at the top of our stairs, destroying it. There goes another $100 and I'm genuinely afraid of when my husband gets home from work tonight and sees that one.

Any suggestions??? Dog tranquilizers for thunder storms/fireworks/popping sounds??? She is a gorgeous, sweet dog and I love her and want to keep her but my husband is going to hit the roof tonight when he sees yet ANOTHER destructive thing she's done, HELP!!!

  • Why are there no more cold medications for babies?

My son is turning a year old next week and has a terrible cold with a runny nose, congestion and coughing, yet I'm told by his doctor and the pharmacist that there is no longer over the counter cold remedies available for babies, why??? He is suffering, miserable all night and I don't understand this.

(I know there are saline drops but the pharmacist said that wouldn't work for a runny nose, plus he screams when I give him those anyway).

  • GSD Growled at my baby!?

My German Shepherd (female) growled at my 11 month old baby son twice when he was a couple of feet away from her food bowl. My GSD is about 7 or 8 yrs old (rescued her 2.5 yrs ago so not sure), but is normally super mellow and sweet around little children. Before I had my son, other kids would run up to her and squeeze her and I knew she was great with kids because she'd let them do anything to her, and she IS usually great with my son in any area of the house but tonight it was very disturbing to hear her growl at him. I yanked her back and put her outside but she did it again. Any suggestions?

I'm already removing her food dish when she's not eating.

  • What's the difference between a blender and a food processor?

as far as being able to puree or liquify? I'm trying to make my own baby food for my 6 month old. I just bought this baby food processor yesterday, which did fine on the cantaloupe, but the blade jammed & BROKE when I put in baby carrots, plus before it broke it was only shredding them, not pureeing like I need.

I have a Kitchen Aid good quality blender that has "puree" and "liquify" as options, can I use that instead? What is the benefit of an actual food processor? (Assuming I can find one of better quality that doesn't break the first day?) I can't have shredded lumps or my son could choke.

  • Anyone tried the "Kickin Coaster" by First Years for your baby?

I came across this baby item on JC Penney's website and it looks good for my 2 month old since he's very active and kicks his legs constantly, but sometimes stuff looks good online and then when you get it, it's not so great. So I'm wondering if anyone's tried this and if it's worth the $$ http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?ItemID=15cd84...

What do you guys think??? It's not at Wal Mart or Babies R Us so I can't see it in person. As far as I can tell this is only available online.

  • Has anyone tried the Kickin Coaster by First Years?

I have a gift card from JC Penney and am trying to decide if it's worthwhile to spend it on this: http://www3.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?catnum=RN342-... It says it improves leg strength and my 2 month old is very active and kicks constantly. Anyone tried it and if so is it any good?

  • Is a quivering chin normal?

My 2 month old son's chin quivers when he cries and has been doing this since birth. I read in one book that it was normal for newborns but not sure if a 2 month old is still considered a newborn. His doctor (who is young and a new doctor) recommends that he see a neurologist as she's never heard of a baby having a quivering chin. Do any of you have any knowledge on this???

  • Letting an 8 week old cry or not?

My son will often cry whenever I put him down in his crib or sometimes will start crying in there. My husband says it's Ok to let him cry for 5 or 10 minutes because he may have to unwind to go to sleep, but it tugs at my heart to hear him cry so as soon as he cries I pick him up and try to sooth him (sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't because he suffers from gas pain). Do you think it's alright to let a baby cry for a few minutes or not?

  • Baby hungry every 30 minutes to an hour all day, help!?

My 7 week old eats almost CONSTANTLY and I need suggestions as to what would help him eat only every 2-4 hours like a normal baby should. He's growing fast and gaining weight faster than average, but he only eats 2 or 3 ounces at once, then goes into a screaming fit from gas pain (I think it's gas). I give him Infant Gas Drops which helps but doesn't get rid of the pain. Then about 30 minutes later he screams like he's starving and he'll eat another 2 ounces or so. The longest he EVER goes during the day between feedings is an hour. At night he has to eat every 2 hours.

He's formula fed because my breasts didn't produce milk, so he should be going longer than 30 minutes or an hour between feedings. I've tried a few formulas and it's the same situation. I feel like my whole life is spent sitting & feeding him all day every day, any ideas on how to have him eat more and go longer between feedings or did this happen to anyone else's baby??

  • What is a Membrane Sweep?

And why would a midwife or OB do one?? Today at my 39 week appt my midwife checked my cervix and it was VERY uncomfortable and painful. Tonight I'm having mild contractions and someone who answered my previous Q said maybe she did a membrane sweep. What is that???

  • Could this bring on labor?

Today I went for my 39 week appt with a midwife and when she examined me it REALLY hurt. She told me I was 1 1/2 cm dilated. My due date is in 5 days. Anyways, there was a small amount of bleeding afterward (just a bit) and tonight I'm having harder contractions than I've had other nights. Not like agony or even for sure labor, just tight uncomfortable ones that feel like menstrual cramps.

Could the exam by her have set off labor???? This is my first so I don't know.

  • What type of laptop should I get and where should I buy it?

My Mac OS X died so I need a new laptop and want to go back to a PC, not an Apple (too much incapatibility and I grew up on PC's). I've been out of the high tech loop for a few years though. I only need it for emailing, net surfing, photos, basic stuff at home - no games or anything fancy. What brand/type should I get and where should I buy it from? Costco? Wal Mart? Frye's on sale?

I want one that goes fast and doesn't get bogged down or have lots of "issues," one that doesn't freeze up all the time.

  • Mac OS X Laptop question - dead computer, help!!?

I received a Mac OS X laptop a couple of years ago from my school district for working for them for that year and I don't know much about Macs. A couple of months ago it started acting weird, closing Safari when I visited almost any website including "Food Network." Then it started freezing up every day but would be Ok when I'd reboot.

It froze up the other day and when I try to reboot it, now it just gives me a grey screen with a box with a question mark flashing and won't do anything else. Is there anything I can do or is the laptop garbage now???

  • Do I need both a baby swing AND a bouncy seat?

I'm trying to figure out what I need, 37 wks with my first and never taken care of an infant before (just kids 3 & up). I already got a swing that has lots of features, but do I need a bouncy seat too? Or should I just use the infant seat from the traveling system that snaps out of the stroller? It's one of those that snap into the carseat or the stroller. Where do you put your newborn baby while you're taking a shower or using the toilet??

Is there such a thing as a LIST of everything I need before baby comes home?
