cleft palate puppy (hoping for vet or vet tech input)?
would LOVE to have some input from a vet, or vet tech..took on a beautiful little boxer with a cleft palate. i have been tube feeding her (every 4 hours now) she is 3 weeks old today (2/6/13) she has done GREAT! shes started going to the bathroom on her own, plays with me when she first wakes up, most of her teeth have come through her gums..she is a bit small (normal for supplemented puppies) she is just under 2 lbs..i always burp her after i feed her (about 21 -24ml's per feeding) the past 2 days she has been spitting up formula, i think it is when she burps for the most part. she is on ammoxicillan, for aspiration pneumonia, just in case..was thinking of putting her on clavamox because it is a little stronger. i do suction out her nose when she does spit up. her lungs still sound clear, not raspy at all, shes still hydrated and acting fine..only sneezes and coughs when she spits up. should i be worried more so, now that she is spitting up? also, at what age would be good to have her palate fixed?
serious answers only please...i dont want to hear "are you stimulating her, is she warm?" and so on...yes, she has her own heat pad, blankets, and even a little sutffed tiger that she cuddles with when im not holding her. and no, im not going to put her down..just because of her palate, and yes, i know i have my work cut out...i knew it from day one, and knew i would do whatever i had to do to keep her alive. i do have pics if anyone needs them, but will have to email them..
thanks for the help!!

2 AnswersOther - Pregnancy & Parenting10 years ago5 yo daughter not sleeping through the night?
just started school, and im pretty hard on my kids about bed time..we follow a pretty strict bed time routine. my youngest has been doing this for a while now..she kicks her feet frantically, wakes up and throws a tantrum and cries. sometimes she says its because she has to pee, other times she says its because her feet or ankles hurt..most the time its "i dont know" it happens atleast 5 times a week. ive brought her to the dr, and nothing was said about it...ive brought her to have xrays of her feet and ankles, and those were fine..my patients are wearing thin, and im beyond stressed out. i really cant take the 15 to 20 min of tantrums anymore. any ideas on what could be going on? or what i can do to help her sleep through the night? (and yes, im looking for a new dr..mines useless..) i honestly do not remember the last time i got to sleep all night :/
5 AnswersParenting10 years agowhite millipede lookin worms in plant?
i bought a peace lilly about 3 weeks ago..transplanted it into a bigger pot, and trimmed the dead leaves off it. i decided to stick it in my shower and wash the leaves off earlier this afternoon, i gave it time to drain the excess water, when i went to put it back on its stand, i noticed A LOT of small white worms, almost looks like super small centipedes. i have had a problem with flowers and leaves turning brown really fast. any ideas on what these are, and how i can get rid of them without pesticides? (i have reptiles, and they are extremely sensitive)
2 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agored tail help..ASAP please!!!?
i just got a red tail, was told he was 2 yo, but hes extremely tiny for a 2 yo. im thinking hes not even 1 yet...he was extremely cold when i got him, his tank is a 40 tall, and they had a heat pad on him, with half the tank full of aspen. hes extremely lethargic. i took out almost all the aspen, left about an inch at the bottom, put a hide over his heat pad and put most of his body under the hide. with a red heat lamp over him. i slowly warmed the warm side up to 90 deg. is there anything else i can do to help pull him out of this? i guess they took him to the same vet i go to, and they were told that they put him into a burmation. he hasnt eaten in about a month. im damned and determined to pull him out of this...so any help is appreciated!!
1 AnswerReptiles1 decade agomy female beardie wants to tear my male a new one?
we have a m and f bearded dragons. we had planned on breeding them when our female was a lil over 2 yo. they are in their own enclosures, my male's is on an open stand, and my f is right under him. we let them out to have wonder time in our living room (yes, its dragon proofed!) lately, when our male is on the floor, and wonders by her tank, she tries to kill him through the glass. puffing, and darting around. my male pays no attn to her what so ever. she use to run to the opposite side of her tank, and stay away from him. and its not like he sits there and terrorizes her. my question is, will she calm down with him eventually? or will she always try to kill him like she does? and yes, im sure hes a boy and shes a girl. we havnt yet dared put them on the floor together due to what she does when hes on the floor.
2 AnswersReptiles1 decade agowater dragon eye problem?
i have a 2yo male chinese water dragon. hes in shed right now and i always keep an eye on him when hes in shed, esp his crest, toes and tail. while i was lookin him over, i noticed his right eye didnt look right. i grabbed a small flash light, and it looks foggy. like a dog with cataracts..i WILL be calling my vet in the morning, but would like to know what ppl think this could be from? he is about 3 feet long, in an enclosure that is a lil over 6' tall, 4' wide and 3'deep, has 12 hours of uv, basking spot of 90, water bowls and pools, eating crickets, mealies, supers, earth worms he gets a pinkie once a week, and at 1 feeding once a week ill give him 4 or 5 wax worms..anything that moves and i give to him he eats. all calcium dusted, and gets vitamins twice a week.

1 AnswerCleaning & Laundry1 decade agodehydrated water dragon?
my female water dragon is dehydrated..this is nt a question bout husbandry, is she sick or not..or anything like that. shes housed in an enclosure that is a lil over 6' tall x 3' wide x almost 2.6' deep. basking spot of 90 durin day, 75ish at night, uv (changed every 6 months) a water bowl, and water tub, offered meal worms daily, crickets every other day, wax worms as treats, a pinkie mouse once a week, she wont touch collards or any veggies unless i cut it up super small and she accidently eats it when eating worms. she has not eaten in a few days. i DO plan on taking her to the vet. my question is..if i soak her, will it help hydrate her? she is not drinking enough on her own.
3 AnswersReptiles1 decade agoleopard gecko not eating?
i took in a rescue leo last fri. i had him at my vet on monday. he has a prolapsed hemipene, dehydrated, little mouth rot, both eyes are infected, and a small upper resp infection. he was given meds for everything but his prolapse, the vet even gave him an appetite stimulant. told me to keep his temps on his warm side in the low 90's. i have been using a small syringe to drip water on his nose, monday night he took in 3 syringes of water. i tried to give him a meal worm just by pushin the @$$ end of the worm into his mouth, but he spits it right back out. so i made him a cricket and meal worm slurry. put a little bit in a washed out bottle cap, added some calcium, and tried to drip some on his nose. he wouldnt even lick it! my vet said if he didnt eat after the stimulant, ill prob loose him. (still puttin meds on his eyes) when i first put him in his tank, he wouldnt go near the warm side, now he lays in the same spot, on his warm side. today, when i took him out to try to get him to take some water, he wouldnt open his mouth or lick till AFTER i put him back in his tank and he got comfy. any ideas on how i can get my poor lil rescue to eat? hes such a good lil guy, and im tryin everything i can to keep him goin!!
20L gal tank
3 hides (moist box on warm side, hide in middle, and on cool side)
temp on warm side is 90-93f
water, calc without d3 and mealworms in bowl
he is on paper towels for bedding..
peed at the vets office on his chart, and theres a very small spot where it looked like extremely watery poop. but thats it. he does move around a little bit in his tank, although he cant see, he finds his cool hide, and will go back to his warm spot when he wants.
5 AnswersReptiles1 decade agomale and female water dragon?
i have a male and female chinese water dragon. they are both healthy. my temps/humidity are good, and they are in a huge enclosure (over 6'tall, over 3' wide and over 2' deep) my male has a nice round belly, but my female is long and slender. shes not thin like shes sick, shes just slender. (i have pics, and can email them..and BOTH have been to the vets) shes a VERY picky eater...right now, she will not touch anything that moves unless its a cricket. (yes, they get several types of worms, and other bugs, no i dont catch them, we buy them..and yes i dust with calcium powder. and they do not usually get the same thing 2 days in a row, we are always switching their food around so they dont get bored) we have tried to seperate them for a little while, but when we did, neither of them would eat at all. (yes, we gut load the crickets too!! any veggies they refuse to eat, the crickets eat )
ok, with that out of the way, my questions are...do females grow slower then males do? and do females usually have a longer, slender body, while males have a rounder belly?
we have had her for about 10 months now, and she is STILL extremily skiddish. she doesnt like to be picked up or handled at all. i know how to properly pick up a cwd, and handle them. im in and out of their enclosure several times a day patting them, and they run my living room. but i just cant break her of being skiddish..she rather run and hide someplace..any advise on that?
2 AnswersReptiles1 decade agobeardie head bobbin and black beard?
my male beardie is around 9 months old. the past 3 days or so he will head bob really aggressivly, and turn his beard black and try to fight his reflection in the tank. (im goin to put a back drop up) when i take him out, he relaxes after a few min, but still head bobs a lil bit. ive been takin him out more the past few days so he doesnt end up with snout damage from head bobbin the side of the tank. when i have him out for a long period of time, he will turn his beard black again, and head bob easy. hes only aggressive when hes in his tank. hes NEVER been aggressive towards me what so ever. what does head bobbin mean when im holding him, or hes perched on me? like i said, hes only aggressive about it in his tank. always easy about it when i have him in my hand or hes on me. sometimes when hes out of his tank he turns his beard black, other times he doesnt.
this has nothing to do with his tank, temps, size or anything execpt head bobbin while i have him...i know what im doin with him, i have 2 other ones as well...i just want other opinions as to why he is doin this while im holding him, so please only answer if you can help me figure out why..
5 AnswersReptiles1 decade agobeardie's tail..VETS PLEASE ANSWER!!?
we got our baby beardies about a month and a half ago, both are eating drinkin and poopin fine. (our temps, and uva/uvb are good) i noticed on one of the babies the tip of his tail was black, i figured it was bad shed, and things would be fine after it fell off. all ov a sudden it was really nasty looking, with a dead black end on it. it looked like someone with REALLY bad eczema which was cracked and bleeding. we got him to the vet last monday, the vet amputated the bad part of his tail. he said if we got it to the good skin, it will heal good. wellllll it didnt. we had to bring him BACK to the vet today, and had MORE amputated, he also quarterized the end, and gave us a cream (neomycin and plymyxin b) and wants to check him on monday. he said he didnt believe it was tail rot, and is not sure what it could be. hes not gettin it stuck in or on anything, and they are fed atleast 2 times a day, and have fresh fruits and veggies daily, so i know hes not chewing his own tail.. any ideas on what could be wrong?? im extremily worried bout my baby, we have 4 other lizards (seperate from him) and NONE (knock on wood) have had any health problems. im goin crazy tryin to find out what this could be. i have tried so hard to keep things clean to prevent him from having further problems. i feel so helpless!
2 AnswersReptiles1 decade agobeardie with bad tail? HELPP!!?
ok, we got 2 baby beardies from a pet store not to long ago. one of them looked like he had a bad shed, and had a kink in his tail, i figured he would loose the tip of his tail, and things would be ok. well, i pulled both the babies out last night to give them a bath and check them over, and the poor lil things tail looks NASTY! its a little swollen, the tip is shrivled up and looks like its gonna fall off, and the under side of it was bleeding a little bit. i soaked him for a few min, and used a wash cloth (that is now his own personal towel) cleaned it up, and then put some bacitracin on it. what could this be? and what can i do?
real answers only please!! i dont wanna hear bout "take him to the vet" cuz on monday, i do plan on callin my vet....i just need to know what this could be, and what i can do. THANKS!!!!!

i have 2 chinese water dragons. i know for sure my male is a male..he proved it to me a while ago at bath time LOL...can you always tell the sex of a water dragon by the colors on their chin? my smaller dragon im pretty sure is a female. my male has blue, orange and pink on his chin and neck, while my lil female has pastel yellow and green. i may be taking in another dragon that is the size of my female now, they look sooo much alike. i just want to make sure she is a female so i dont have fights, and injured dragons.

what different fruits and veggies can i feed my water dragons? i have tried strawberries, blueberries, collards, bananas, sweet tatoes, squash..i would like to keep tryin different things, and see what they favor. yes, they get plenty of crickets, meal worms, superworms (my male only) wax worms, and silk worms, with calc powder. and i have a vit spray..i only want to know what different fruits and veggies they can have that i can use as a staple food. (my male likes banana's, but i do not feed him those often because of the binding with calc and makin the calc useless)

1 AnswerReptiles1 decade agolethargic chinese water dragon?
i bought a male cwd about a month ago..he was in a tank with a female. after we brought him home, the female got depressed, stopped eating, and bumped up her nose pretty good. we decided to take her home last week. they are both about 18 monts old. the pet store said they had brought her in for her nose, and the vet gave them cream and said everything else was fine. (shes no longer on the cream) when we took her home they told us she was lazy..well lazy is right! all she does is sleep!! i wake up and shes in the same exact spot i left her in the night before. you can flip her all over the place and she does not usually wake up. once in a blue moon she will walk around a little bit. ive only seen her eat 3 meal worms. shes thin.. the temp is around 85 give or take..and humidity is around 70. the male is doin GREAT but she is not. i did notice that she is also not hanging on to things very good like the male does either. i dont see her in her water either. i take her out a few times a day and drop a few drops of water on her nose to drip down. sometimes she takes them sometimes she doesnt. i have also snuck in a few small pieces of strawberry with calcium powder to get something in her. (they do have a heat lamp, heat pad, uvb, vit and calcium) im goin to get her into the vet this week, but was wonderin what i could do in the mean time and what this could possibly be! im so in love with this poor lil girl and dont want to loose her!!
