  • Why do some people not tip delivery drivers?

I deliver pizza, I make $2.50 per delivery with no hourly wage and no compensation for gas. Delivery drivers need tips in order to survive and some people seem to have no idea that tipping even exists. It's like they've never even heard of the concept.

  • Is there a single argument against gay marriage that isn't similar to an argument that was used against...?

Is there a single argument against gay marriage that doesn't have a similar argument that was used against interracial marriage 60 years ago? Racists said that interracial marriage in unnatural. They said God doesn't want it to happen. They even used verses from the Bible like Nehemiah 13:25-26. They appealed to tradition, just like people do now with gay marriage. They used the slippery slope fallacy, just like people do now with gay marriage. They said they were just thinking of what's best for the children, just like people do now with gay marriage. They said they weren't discriminating because everyone had the same rights to marry within their own race, which mirrors the homophobic argument that they aren't discriminating because everyone has the same rights to marry someone of the opposite sex. People against interracial marriage even said allowing it would degrade traditional marriage.

  • How is ObamaCare a passage of a Law that requires everyone to purchase a specific product a conservative idea?

Recently I saw a Yahoo Answers user by the name of Thomas H give this as a response. I'm just wondering how many conservatives realize that the individual mandate is a conservative idea. Conservatives came up with it in 1989 and conservatives have been promoting it up until Obama also said he liked the idea. Mitt Romney actually put this idea into effect in his Massachusetts health care insurance reform law, which served as a model for Obamacare. So my question is this: Why is an idea that was created by conservatives, promoted by conservatives for 20 years, and implemented by the most likely Republican nominee for President suddenly not a conservative idea? Is it just because one rather centrist Democrat used it in a law? Is that the only thing that tosses 20 years of promoting the idea out the window?

  • Guns, gun violence, and gun statistics?

Does anyone have any statistics on guns, gun violence, and gun laws? Do countries that have banned guns have less gun violence? What is the rate of accidental shootings in countries that have and have not banned guns? What is the rate of violent crimes that have been stopped because the victim had a gun? What are some other relevant statistics?

  • Since a lot of conservatives don't have the best grasp of scientific realities...?

Since a lot of conservatives don't have the best grasp of scientific realities (such as evolution, the age of the universe, etc.) do you think this is an indicator that they might not have the best grasp of moral realities (gay marriage) and political realities (the role of government in general)?

  • Why did this answer tie for first?

I asked a question about conservative positions in the past and this is one of the responses I got.

"It's in the best interest of every race to refrain from engaging in interracial relationships and race mixing, most especially when it comes to White people.

Mixed children suffer from identity problems. It's not fair to put them in such a position. Therefore, think before you enter an interracial relationship. You see, this is not just about you, but your potential children. Keep in mind too that interracial relationships breed jealousy and often create problems.

White people are already a minority in the world. Our numbers are continuing to rapidly decline. Any White person who partakes in an interracial relationship and/ or race mixing is aiding White genocide.

    Ask yourselves these questions:

    1) Do I really want my children to not look like me?

    2) Do I really want to be responsible for forever ruining my unique White European bloodline?

    3) Do I really want to have mixed children who will constantly suffer from an identity crisis and not feel part of any race?

    4) Do I really want to continue to aid the extinction of White people?

This is not about hate. This is about preserving our people and our heritage. White people, take pride in your precious White European bloodlines. Don't dilute them."

As disgusting as this answer is, what's more disgusting is how many people agreed with is. 30% thought it was the best answer, enough too tie it for first. Why is it still okay to be so openly racist?

  • What was the conservative postion on?

The definition of conservatism is "Holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in politics or religion."

In the 1860's what was the conservative position on slavery? In 1910 what was the conservative position on women having the right to vote? In the 1960's what was the conservative position on interracial marriage? In the future how do you think today's conservative view on gay marriage will be viewed?

  • Why does Mitt Romney keep switching his positions on everything?

First he was for the stimulus, then he was against it. First he was pro-choice, then he was pro-life. First he wasn't a fan of Ronald Reagan, then he was a fan of Ronald Reagan. First he invented Obamacare, then he was against it. First he accepted that humans are causing climate change, then he denied it. If he does get elected is he just going to switch back, or is he going to switch to some third option we haven't seen before?

  • If you are against gay marriage, what about intersex individuals?

There are many different kinds of intersex individuals. One example is when someone is conceived they have both X and Y chromosomes which means they are male. And the Y chromosome tells the body to start pumping out testosterone, which it does. But some individuals lack testosterone receptors. Which means they have tons of testosterone running through their veins, but it isn't really making a difference. When they are born they look like a girl. This person is raised as a girl. And usually it's not until this person hits puberty and starts to develop breasts, but doesn't have their period, that people realize that something is different. After they do some tests they realize that this person isn't having their period because this person doesn't have ovaries, this person has testes inside.

So if you are against gay marriage who is this person allowed to marry? Men? Women? Other intersex individuals? I've asked this question before and never gotten a straight answer.

  • any conservatives here interested in an actual intelligent conversation?

let's face it. Yahoo answers is not the best place for rational debate. Even if someone asks an intelligent question, they will usually only get either insulting or sycophantic answers. And if someone's gives an intelligent answer it will either be ignored or preach to the choir. Both liberals and conservatives are clearly guilty of this. I like rational debate, and I am hoping to find someone who can challenge my beliefs, but I feel like it's hard to find a good place to do discuss politics. Facebook used to be good but they don't really have discussion boards any more. And talking about politics in real life usually leads to having less friends. So if there is anyone here who considers themselves right-leaning and who would like to participate in a rational and reasonable conversation about politics just say so and leave me your email address and I will contact you.

  • The rich work hard for their money?

A lot of times I hear people say that the rich work hard for their money. And while I think that is true for most rich people, the main problem I have with people saying things like that is the apparent implication that people who aren't rich don't work hard. It implies that the great investment banker makes 10 times more than a great nurse only because the banker works 10 times as hard. How rich you are is not simply a reflection on how hard you work, and it is certainly not a reflection on how much you contribute to society, if that were the case than firefighters, police officers, teachers, soldiers, and nurses would all be way richer than Paris Hilton. Being rich is more a reflection on how well your specific talents fit in with the needs of the marketplace in the particular era and part of the world in which you were born.

Ask Warren Buffett "If you stick me down in the middle of Bangladesh or Peru or someplace, you find out how much this talent is going to produce in the wrong kind of soil ... I work in a market system that happens to reward what I do very well -- disproportionately well."
