  • How did the Chilean plebiscite work?

I know the story of Salvador Allende being assassinated, and Pinochet taking power. I also know that in 1988, there was a election, yes for 8 more years of Pinochet, or no to get Pinochet out. But I don't understand how the government agreed for the election, and why it wasn't fixed.

I'm writing an essay about this period in Chilean history, and there are some gaps in my research. I appreciate any help. Thank you in advance!

  • I have some Spanish help questions?

I'm teaching myself how to speak Spanish, and its going well. I just have a few simple question.

    1. In the case of definite articles, and gender and article must match. So, los gatos means the (male) cats and las gatas means the (female) cats. But, I heard someone say los policias, and I wondered why he didn't say los policios. Why didn't the noun change in this case?

    2. I know that whenever I want to say "of the" in the Spanish, I have to say del, but what does "al" mean? When do I use "al"

  • Does anyone know the legend of how the Aztecs founded Mexico?

I was told this legend a long time ago, and I thought it was really interesting, but I forgot most of it. All I remember is the city of Teotihuacan, and how the people there enslaved other people and called them dogs. And later on, Teotihuacan was defeated (I think because of weather problems, they didn't have enough food to survive, I'm not sure) and they enslaved people were told (I don't know by who) to just walking until they find a eagle with a snake in its mouth. That's how they know they've reached the land in which to settle on. These people are now known as the Aztecs.

If someone can clear this up for me, that would be great. If I have some parts wrong, I'm sorry. Its all I can remember.

  • What should I eat for breakfast?

I am on a diet, and I know what to eat for lunch and dinner, and I know all the health snacks to eat in between meals, but breakfast is kind of hard. I'm the kind of person who likes have a cup of coffee or tea, with a piece of cake of something and red, or watch T.V before going to school. Of course, cake is out of the question. What are some healthy alternatives? Thanks!

BTW, I've made some vegan muffins before, and that was good, but it takes a lot of time that I don't have.

  • What should I eat for breakfast on a diet?

I should mention that I want to lose weight at a steady pace. I'm not looking to lose 10 pounds in one week. Slow and steady is fine. I also workout, if that makes a difference in your response. I should also mention that I'm not the type of person to get up and cook breakfast for myself. I like quick things. For example, when I was not on a diet, I would have a piece of toast with cream cheese and honey, along with a cup of coffee. I'm hoping for something simple like that.

Your response is very much appreciated.

  • How can I get rid of side/hip fat?

I've been going to the gym for awhile now, and I haven't seen any results. Twice a week I go to a cycle and core class. We cycle for one hour, and work on core for half an hour. The rest of the days I work on the stationary bike for 30 minutes, the the elliptical for 10 minutes (I'm still getting use to it) and finally strength exercises. I go to the gym about four times a week. I know that I have to work on my diet, and I know everything I have to know about diet. But what I'm I doing wrong at the gym? Why haven't these workouts helped. I'm losing weight, but I'm losing it in my inner thighs, and boob, rather than my hips and belly. I know there is no such thing as losing weight in one place, but how can I focus on one part of my body, and work it the hardest. I cant stand this hip/side fat anymore. Please give me the most detailed answer you can. Your help is very appreciated. Thanks.

  • How can I play this guitar part?

I watched a video of Foster the People preforming Life on the Nickel, and at the end of the song, one of the guitar players that tours with them starts to play this really awesome melody. I want to learn how to play it, but I don't know how to go about it. I though maybe someone at Yahoo! Answers could help me. The link is below, and the guitar melody starts at 3:23. There are a lot of instruments going on that the same time, but the guitar melody is main instrument for this bit. If you could give me some pointers on how to play it, that would be awesome. (Its two melodies back to back, very short)

    Thank you very very much!

  • Is A Clockwork Orange a hard book to read?

I know the Nadsat language takes a little time to get use to, but will it stop me from understanding the book? Is it really that bad? Tell me your experience with the book. I saw the movie awhile ago, and I'm finally coming around to reading the book.

(I'm 20 years old if that makes a difference with the difficulty of the book)

    Thanks

  • Does anyone remember this ice cream brand?

When I was a kid in the early 2000's, my grandma would buy this ice cream called Old Fashion. It was sold in regular super markets, and it was relatively inexpensive. It was in a yellow carton, (may or may not have had white pin stripes) the top of the lid was also yellow, the rim of the lid was brown, and the big letters it read Old Fashion on the front. It came in all flavors. Its been quite awhile since I've seen it in supermarkets, and I cannot find any trace of it online. This led me to come to Yahoo! Answers. Do any of you remember this ice cream brand?

  • Is Communication Studies an impacted major at UCLA?

I have applied to transfer from junior college to UCLA as a Communication Studies major, but all I hear from everyone is how impacted the major is. I have found no evidence that supports this. Is it really impacted.

I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to get excepted, because my GPA is only 3.41, but I had a lot to say in the extra curricular section.

So, is Communication Studies an impacted major at UCLA?

  • Have you or someone you know attended a concert that is now referred to a classic concert?

Examples are concerts such as Woodstock 1969, The Doors Hollywood Bowl 1968, maybe even Nirvana unplugged. Any concert that you think is referred to as a classic, add it to the list.

So, what classic concerts have you or someone you know been to, and how was the experience?

  • How can I remedy my stomach burning sensation?

I have a strong sensation of burning all around my stomach. Its caused from overeating on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Its not an ulcer or anything serious like that. Its just that I overate, and now, there is a lot of burning in my stomach. How can I help this? What should I eat today, and what should I stay away from? Will water help the acid go away, or will it make it worse?

    Thanks

  • How can I make caffeine withdrawal easier?

I've given up coffee. The first day, I was fine . The second day I started to get the massive headaches. And now its day three and the irritability has started. And I still have the headaches. I don't want to take pain killers. I've started to drink tea in the morning, hoping that it will help, but it hasn't. I'm going to continue with it though. Is there anything I can do to make the withdrawal symptoms easier?

  • Which is the worst Pearl Jam album?

I think Riot Act is the worst, followed by Backspacer, then Pearl Jam, then No Code. I haven't head Lighting Bolt yet, so I don't have an opinion on it. For those of you who have heard it, did you like it? I think it went to number 1 worldwide, so that's cool.

(Pearl Jam is my favorite band)

  • What Pearl Jam song is this?

I'm drawing a blank. In this song, the music and vocals are very low, almost like a whisper, in the versus, but the chorus gets pretty loud. I drawing a blank on if its on an album, or if its a b-side. All I know is that its by Pearl Jam, and the time period (if I were to estimate) is around No Code, Yield, Binaural time. I can hum the song in my head, but no lyrics are coming to mind, other than "would you help me" in the chorus. (The lyrics might me wrong)

Please help. This is going to drive me insane.

    Thanks.
