  • Living in tent - zipper door splitting?

I have a Coleman Oasis 8 man tent and I live in it with my dad and his friend as we are homeless. Since we live in it and aren’t just using it for camping here and there, we obviously use the door MUCH more. We’ve had it for about two months now with no problems up until a few days ago.

Now we can not get the zipper to stop splitting. There are two zippers (one comes from the top and the other from the bottom) that meet in the middle or wherever you want them to. Both the top and the bottom now can’t meet the other without splitting open. We have to go back and forth a LOT of times to get the two sides to actually zip up. It is such a pain and is getting worse and worse. I can imagine we only have so much time before it stops working completely (it’s very close already).

Has anyone been through this using a tent (or this kind of zipper) multiple times a day and therefore using it more than normal? Did you find a way to fix it?

As it’s getting warmer outside, the bugs are getting worse and we also need it closed for security purposes so we really need to figure something out. Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks!

  • I was at the scene of a fatal overdose and the police took all of my belongings. Is this legal? How do I get them back? [NYS]?

My friend fatally overdosed on heroin. His fiance, my fiance, and I were all there and called 911. The police took all of our electronics, wallets, and my backpack. My wallet and backpack contained important identifications such as my passport, drives license, insurance cards, birth certificate, money, debit card, and some others less important things. Some electronics they took were my Windows 10 tablet, all of our phones, and some of my important USB flash-drives.

I called the head investigator (at the local county sheriff's office) in charge of that case and was told the county district attorney was holding it as evidence in regards to a search warrant because of the fatal overdose. The officers on scene told my fiance that they were taking our belongings to make sure no foul play was involved. My fiance and I have both called the district attorney's office and that got us nowhere. The secretary just told us the DA will call us back. It has been a little over a month now and we have yet to get an answer from anybody, and we're getting evicted from our apartment because we couldn't pay rent as we had our rent money in our wallets. We weren't given a receipt or anything for the things they took.

Doesn't Governor Andrew Cuomo's 911 Good Samaritan Law protect us from this kind of thing?

Is this even legal? If it is, how long can they hold them for?

Is there someone we can call to speed up this process that will actually give us results? (No money for a lawyer)

  • N.Y. Penal Law 265.02 (1) vs N.Y. Penal Law 265.01 (1) - specifics?

N.Y. Penal Law 265.02 [criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony] subdivision 1 states:

"Such person commits the crime of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree as defined in subdivision one, two , three or five of section 265.01, and has been previously convicted of any crime"

When it says "and has been previously convicted of any crime", does this mean literally ANY crime, something as simple as say a disorderly conduct or is it specific to the criminal possession of a weapon category?

I ask is because it is the difference between a class A misdemeanor and a class D felony, as N.Y. Penal Law 265.01 (1) is criminal possession of a weapon in the FOURTH degree rather than the THIRD.

Thank your for reading and thank you for commenting (in advance!)!

  • Galaxy S4 "emergency call" button on lockscreen causes accidental 911 calls?

I had this problem about a month ago and installed a new lockscreen app that shows up before the standard one that came with the phone. The app updated and now goes after that lockscreen which makes my old one pop up first which means my problem is back. Does anyone know a way to make it so I cant unlock my phone in my pocket or know of an app that has a lockscreen that will show up before the one with the emergency button on it? Thanks.

  • Do VPN's make it so your ISP can not track your internet usage?

I only get 10GB per month and then my ISP throttles my data usage after that which make it impossible to do what I need to do. I'm looking for a VPN that can help me get around that so they can't track how much data I'm using. Also, if you have any other tips to save data please let me know. Thanks!

  • Is a handheld breathalyzing device admissible in Vermont state courts as evidence for an underage drinking violation/ticket? Lawyers please?

I hear that they are supposed to take the individual back to the station and use a calibrated breathalyzer because the handheld devices are inaccurate, therefore cannot be used as evidence in court when an individual brings the ticket to court instead of going to the YSASP program or just paying the $300 fine. Anything more that you know that you think will help the situation, please let me know. Thanks!

  • Should I bother going to court for an underage drinking ticket in Vermont?

A couple of days ago I was at a party in Vermont and got into a car with a drunk driver. He was drifting and went off into the snow a little bit too much. We got stuck and when a cop came down the road he stopped. He quickly breathalyzed the driver and soon after, the other 4 people in the car including me. The ticket is for drinking alcohol under the age of 21. The cop told me it is either a $300 fine or I can do something called the diversion program in Vermont. The program is at least a couple of months long and there is no way I can do it because it is in Vermont and I have no car or money to get there a couple of times a week for a few months. I also don't really have $300 to blow on a ticket. (I know I shouldn't have made the decision to do what I did and it is my fault.) I'm wondering if it would be worth going to court over, like would they reduce the fine or anything like that or could some how get around it? I blew a 0.03 and I was the last one to give the test. He gave everyone else they're plastic tube that they blew into besides me because he forgot to give it to me. He told them it is proof of the breathalyzer for them or something like that. I'm wondering, because he forgot to give it to me, is that an excuse for me to get out of this? Let me know about any suggestions, I appreciate it. Thanks!

  • How do I make it so my door will stop being a "push-open" door?

Okay so to open my door all as you have to do is push lightly on it and my stupid dog does it every single time I leave my room to even go pee. Even when I'm in my room he does it but it doesn't open because of my lock but it still squeaks and pushes the door and almost breaks my lock because my lock is just a dinky little latch type thing. How do I make it so he can't do this anymore? I'm desperate it is so annoying it makes me wanna throw the dog out the window! (Obviously I would never do this but still! Haha) Thanks!

  • How will my cat know where the litter box, food, and water is?

Okay so my friend gave me a cat with food and a carrier. She had him for like 2months and she used real kitty litter. I used shredded newspaper with baking soda. How will the cat know where to pee and poop and also drink and eat? I showed him everything and he ate like a bite of his food and a lick of water and I put him in the litter box, he stayed in for a couple seconds then jumped out. I'm afraid he's going to pee and poop everywhere though. I live in a one bedroom apartment so all there is, is the bedroom, bathroom, and closet. All of his stuff is in the closet with the door open. It is also dark now because its night so I just want to make sure he can see it too. Should I put a light on or something? But my problem isn't just at night I need to make sure hes fine during the day too. Thanks

  • Could I make kitty litter like this?

Non shredded newspaper then a layer of baking soda then a couple more layers of non shredded newspaper. Or do I have to shred it? If I have to please tell me a easy way without a paper shredder.
