  • Is one of my fish sick?

One of my convict Cichlids is frantically swimming, hiding, swimming hiding, but no fish are bothering it. I've seen it doing this three times lately.

Might this be an illness of some kind?

  • How do I remove oxidation from a primer-ed surface?

I installed a new hood on my car and just haven't had the money lately to paint it.

It's starting to become oxidized and turning rust-colored.

Is there a way to remove most - if not all of that?

    Maybe CLR or something?

    Thanks for the advice.

  • Pink mouth on my Cichlid?

I just noticed one of my convict Cichlids' mouth has turned pink around the lips.

Is this most likely from fighting or an illness of some type?

  • Do I need a bio-filter for a 55-gallon fish tank?

I just bought a 55 gallon fish tank with the equipment included.

I have always ran a hanging-style filter with a carbon medium and a biological sponge of some kind.

The filter that came with the 55 is a canister style, and from what I've read does 0 bio filtration.

The tank was being used before I got it and it came with the sand, so there should be lots of bacteria already in the tank.

My question is do I need to get a separate bio filter of some kind or will the tank be just fine without one?

I am running fresh water and have 5 Cichlids and an electric blue crayfish.

  • Can an employer lie about firing you?

I was called on my day off by my employer claiming 10$ in quarters went missing on my shift. The usual manager on duty had been on vacation, and a second manager was filling in. They later called me back and said the substitute manager had made the error and it was not my fault.

    I don't work again for 3 days.

I know that if I am held responsible, I will be fired.

Can the employer lie about this and then fire me when I come in for work?

Does them claiming responsibility help ensure I get unemployment if I am fired?

  • How much weight can my closet hold?

I plan on storing large amounts of water in my apartment.

I live on the 1st floor and there is a crawlspace underneath.

I want to fill three 55-gallon drums and store them in my closet.

    Would this be safe?

I think it would weigh around 1400 pounds.

  • Why are my fish acting strange?

We moved our 3 Cichlids from a 20 gallon tank to a 47 gallon tank with more decorations and places to hide* about a week ago. Ever since, they will not come to the top for food. They also hide all day and never come out and swim around. At least one has red gills but I have tested the water for PH level and ammonia/nitrates and everything seems fine. It's at the same temp the old tank was, so I don't know whats wrong.

  • Do I deserve to lose a friend?

My GF and I have had 20 year old furniture for two years. My friend gave me his old couch and love seat when he bought new furniture. They were decent looking but didn't match our stuff and had damage from cat claws. I saw a set that my GF and I liked, so I put the couch and love seat on the interweb so I could pay for the extra we couldn't afford. I didn't ask him if I could sell them, because I assumed he wouldn't care. When he saw me getting the new furniture in he said he wanted to kill me. He said I stabbed him in the back and he could have sold the couches himself and got the money.

Was I being insensitive and greedy? I believe once you give something to someone, it is theirs to do with whatever they wish, unless of coarse it is a special gift, something sentimental.

But these were just a couple of ripped up couches. He says he doesn't know if we should be friends anymore. Is this how most people would react?

  • Doesn't entering diversion keep a charge off of your record?

I was 18 when I got caught with a little marijuana, and was offered diversion since I had never been in trouble. I was told if I pay a $250 court fee and attend a drug/alcohol class that the charges would be dropped.

I am 24 now, and when I applied for my current job, the employer asked me what my marijuana charge was and when it happened. Embarrassing.

Luckily they hired me anyway since it had been so long.

I'm afraid, however, that I won't get the job I'm currently applying for, as they are a much larger and organized company.

What happened? Did the courts give me incorrect information, or did someone make a huge mistake? If it's still on my record I have no idea what I paid them for.

  • Will my lobster be okay?

I have a blue Australian lobster (so I'm told) about 4 inches long and it's lost one of it's antennae. It's of the pair that's the longest. Don't know what you call it, a feeler? He grew back part of a leg once, but the antennae isn't coming back.

Does this make life miserable for the lobster or impair it in a serious way? Ever since I noticed it he sits in the same spot and does nothing (but eat), when he used to be very active sometimes. I just wanna know if hes suffering and I should just put him out of his misery and get another, or if he's just got something else going on.

We think hes having trouble molting due to not enough oidide in the water, so that might be it. Just bought some today.

  • Low voltage on car stereo wiring?

I installed a new stereo in my girlfriend's 96 Jeep Cherokee Laredo and it worked at first but wont turn on now.

I tested everything and came up with this.

The voltage for the 12V constant wire reads about 9.6

The voltage for the ignition wire reads About 9.75.

This is obviously my problem, no? Voltage is way too low.

I tested the battery and it looks good: 11.95V.

The resistance for all the wires was around .001, perfect.

What do you think is most likely the problem?

  • How long does propane last for generators?

A friend of mine is toying with the idea of installing a backup power system for his home consisting of a propane generator, a battery array and charge controller. We would run off battery power and run the generator for a couple hours every 3 days or so (or as needed). Were trying to figure out a ballpark estimate for how long we could power the home on the system alone with 1000 gallons of propane. It would be for an average 3 bedroom 2 bath house with a family of four.

  • Where can I find building codes for doors in Vancouver, WA?

I have a very crappy aluminum Sliding glass door in my Apt.where the seal has failed and has moisture buildup. My managers just want to fix the panes, but the hardware is broken, and there is a 2" x 1/2" hole at the bottom where cold air comes right through. I'm looking for the regulations regarding the door (the gap specifically) because the estimate to repair the crappy door is literally 20$ less than to install a brand new vinyl door.

  • What causes outside tire wear?

I own a 1998 volvo s70. This is a FWD sedan. My FRONT tires are going bald every 5000 miles, but only on the outside edges. I have gone through 3 different tire types, had the front struts replaced, and then aligned. I've had my entire suspension inspected, and been told nothing is damaged or worn, my steering rack has been given a clean bill. I'm about at my wits end because i drive for a living and can't afford new tires every month. (tire place LOOOOVES me!) Only answer I get anymore is take it to the dealer. But Volvo dealer is evil, and I don't want to spend 300$ for them to tell me they're not sure. Any other ideas?

  • How long should it take to replace a sliding glass door?

I have lived in my apt for a year, and always had maintenance problems. Now I've escalated the sliding door repair (needed since move-in) all the way to the owner. I've been told that it could take more than 3 more months. I have taken the necessary steps to do repair and deduct, which is to repair it myself and deduct it from the rent. The last step necessary is to give them a reasonable time to fix it. So, what is a reasonable amount of time to order and install a sliding glass door?
