  • Wonder if anyone will get this right?

Why were Adam and Eve driven from the Garden of Eden?

  • What is the scriptural support for belief in Purgatory?

I saw an answer that claimed that it was an official Catholic Church (are there others that believe in it?) doctrine and had scriptural basis. Can I have some citations please?

If you are going to answer me by claiming Purgatory is a false doctrine, please provide scripture that supports the claim it does not exist or alternatively explains the scripture that Catholics (hopefully) cite here.

  • Is religion about having a relationship with your "god"?

however you may personally define "god".

This is what I have always felt the purpose of religion was. However, I recently came across a comment in which a person was quite adamant that God (in Christianity) is an impersonal being who does not want a relationship.

(Okay, now I am thinking about some religions that don't have a "god", such as atheist Buddhism or atheist Jews. In which case, perhaps my question does not apply.)

But if you do have a "god" and you live according to rule set forth by him, what is the point of living by those rules except to have a relationship with that "god". After all, if they were simply rules for moral living, you could live by those rules without believing in "god". Even if I am a Taoist and believe in a "god" that is just the life force and energy of the universe, aren't I still living according to the guidelines in order to bring myself in harmony with Tao. Isn't that a relationship?

What's the point of "god" without relationship?

  • Why does "free will" mean that others have to suffer?

Apparently, Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden were corrupted only because Satan entered to tempt them. And Satan only tempted them because he had free will and rebelled against God. Well, why did God let him go into Eden? If Adam and Eve and all their descendants will suffer for their transgressions in Eden, then shouldn't God have kept Satan out so it would be solely their actions that resulted in punishment? If Satan was the serpent, then he is described as the most cunning and subtle of the beasts; clearly he was more powerful, more knowledgeable, more manipulative, and more experienced than Adam and Eve. Isn't that a kind of unequal set up? If Eden was such a perfect place, how come Satan got to get in there anyway?

  • If someone was perfect, how could they sin?

If Adam and Eve weren't made perfect, then why did God make them flawed knowing what would happen?

Did God know they would defy him? If he wanted us with him in heaven and can't stand sin, why not make sure that there would be no sin in the first place?

  • What makes a good treat for a cat on a wet food diet?

I have my cat on a wet food diet (one can a day) and she turns her nose up at the treats that I give her. This is the first cat I've had that I gave wet food, so I'm at a bit of a loss. What can I give her as a reward? Any suggestions from others who have fed their cats a wet food diet.

  • I'm looking for some record keeping software?

I want something that would track by date as well as subject. Something where I might keep track of work done on a vehicle and tag it with things like "oil change" or "tire rotation" and when I wanted to see about the oil changes on a vehicle, I would chose that tag. Is there anything out there like that?

  • What is a good automatic feeder?

My cat thinks all I'm good for is feeding her. It's making us both miserable. I try to get the food down when she isn't begging, but it's hard to time when all she does is beg during feeding times. I once waited a whole hour and got it on the floor while she was playing and she didn't notice. In fact, she didn't notice until she begged again and then saw it. Wonderful! (sarcasm). I know the key is not to reward begging, but how can I do that?

I've heard that automatic feeders work for this because your cat doesn't see you as a food dispenser any more. But I've also heard that they are poorly made so that the cat can get into them. Surely there must be some out there that work. Any suggestions.

It's for her wet food, since she free feeds on dry. And no, I'm not going to stop the wet food, I already lost one cat to CRF. Nor am I going to stop the dry, she's good at controlling her intake amount. The issue is solely the begging. I can't stand it. Never had begging animals before.

  • I'm really worried about my new cat getting dehydrated?

Brought my new 1 year old home from the shelter today. She has an upper respiratory infection and is on meds. Naturally she is lethargic, and a little freaked out by the transition (been lying in her litter box), but she also has not eaten or drunk anything in the past 5 hours.

I just lost my last kitty to CRF, so maybe I'm a little paranoid, but I don't want to see her getting something else already.

What can I do to tempt her to eat and drink given that she doesn't feel well and is nervous over the new surroundings?

(Just now, she moved out of the meatloaf position that she had since coming home, and got a little more comfy, but she's still in the box.)

  • Are all canned cat foods made equal?

So, I know that the foods to get are Natural Balance, Blue Buffalo, and Wellness, but are these three made equal, are their varieties equal? What am I looking for on the ingredient label? How do I know they aren't overdoing it with the carbs, what's the right percentage of protein, how can I tell if there is enough omega 3's or other vitamins, minerals, etc.?

I'm stuck shopping from Petsmart, so those are the brands I can get.

  • Ways to control cat shedding?

I thought I'd found the perfect cat at the shelter. He responded to me so well. He just lolled on my lap while I petted him. Then, I pick him up to go back in his cage and my black pants have turned white! He's got that thick fluffy fur. I have to get the right cat, because I won't take him back once I've made him part of my home.

I have a job that requires wearing a dark suit, but this cat left behind far too much hair to be cleaned up by a roller. I want to say he was just stressed out, a professional groomer can help reduce his shedding, he hasn't been brushed in a while, etc. I've heard of grooming methods that can dramatically reduce shedding.

    Am I just kidding myself?

  • Where in the Bible does it say that the OT laws were only intended to show us we were imperfect?

I hear this a lot about the OT laws, but I've never heard someone say where this concept comes from. Can someone show me this? Does it even say this precisely or does it require some interpretation?

  • Printer says "Alignment Failed"?

    HP Officejet 4-in-1 8500A.

Brand new printer. It was doing it's initialization process while I installed the software on my computer. It was not hooked up to the computer yet. The alignment colorsheet printed out and looked fine, and then it said "Alignment and calibration failed." Tech support says to get it hooked up to the computer and then try the alignment process again. I hooked it up by ethernet to the router and then had it access my wireless network. No problem.

It asks if I want to print out the wireless hook up report and I said yes. I foolishly assumed that if there was still an alignment problem, it wouldn't print. It prints out the page (a black and white page) , but some of the lines are faded and some aren't aligned.

I try to print out a test page from my computer and it says I should get the printer aligned first. I run the alignment and it fails again. This time all the colors are fine, but black is barely showing on the page. Every time I run it the black shows less and less. It's not faded, the lines where it does come through are strong and clear, but it's like it is skipping lines. This is a brand new ink cartridge that came with the printer.

Go through troubleshooting steps with tech support and they have me take out the cartridges, blah blah, same problem.

Then, he wants me to do something with the printhead which I can't do because I can't get the cover for the printhead section open. Receive some snotty remark about how I shouldn't have a printer if I can't do basic maintenance on it (BTW did figure out how to get it open today, without his help, after three friends tried to pry it open and agreed that yes, it was especially difficult). But we never get around to this troubleshooting step because of this problem. They said they'll send out a new cartridge and printhead that will arrive on Wed. But there is conflict between their tech support guys about whether the printhead is even the problem since it is the same printhead for the yellow ink which prints fine.

Bottom line. I got a printer on Saturday because I need one that works now, not on Wed. Any suggestions?

  • Proper donation to priest for wedding?

We are marrying on a budget, so the priest has offered to do it for free, but he will accept donations. What would be a reasonable amount? Alternatively, what is the ordinary cost for an official?

  • Thor: Made for 3D or converted and where can I find this out for myself?

I know it is available in 3D, but I know that if you see a movie that was converted to 3D from 2D, the quality is not as good and I don't really want to pay $15 for a subpar 3D movie, when I can see it in 2D for a buck.

However, a made for 3D movie is sometimes worth it.

I'd like to know how to find this out for myself because I keep asking this question for different movies and it seems like finding it out for myself might be more efficient.

  • Am I saved if I only believe in God because I am afraid of going to hell?

That doesn't seem like faith to me. I would think God wants us to love him not fear hell, but since so many Christians encourage belief by telling us that it is the only way to escape hell, maybe I am misunderstanding what God wants of me.
