  • What is a good tall plant for a corner in my office?

I have a corner in my office that I think I want to fill with a plant. The ceiling is 8 feet tall. I have 18" from the corner to the door, and 22" from the corner to my desk. I have a cubicle wall that blocks any direct sunlight to that corner, so it needs to be something that's okay with little sunlight. I'm not the most experienced gardener, so something easy to take care of would be best. Any suggestions?

  • I bought a motorcycle in Michigan with a loan. Do I have to put the full sales price on the title?

I bought an old vintage motorcycle from a private seller using a $1200 loan from my credit union. He left the sales price blank saying that I could make the price whatever I want to avoid paying sales tax for a $1200 purchase (which would save me about $70 in sales tax). However, is it possible to do this since I have a loan for the bike? The only time I've gotten a loan for a vehicle was through a dealership, so I didn't have to do anything with the title. It just showed up in the mail one day with all the info filled in saying who the lien holder was. But since the was a private sale, I don't know how it will be handled when I go into the Secretary of State to transfer the title. Do I need to provide lien holder info on the title? Or can I have lien holder info, but still put the sales price really low to avoid the taxes? Or do I need to just suck it up and pay the $72 in sales tax?

  • Could it be possible for chihuahua saliva to cure poison ivy?

I had a patch of poison ivy on the inside of my foot near my ankle, about the size of a half dollar. Even though it was a very small patch, it seemed like a very intense reaction. It was very "weepy" or "oozy". I spent about a week and a half putting "Ivarest Poison Ivy Itch Relief cream" on it every day and it didn't seem to be getting any better. Then I was cooking dinner one evening and my roommate's chihuahua was playing around at my feet as she likes to do, and she stopped playing, sniffed at the patch of poison ivy irritation, and then started licking it. I wasn't sure if I should stop her because what if she got poison ivy in her system...or what if it made the poison ivy worse on me...but honestly it was so itchy and irritated that this actually felt really good, so I let it go for a few seconds. So the next morning I woke up, and the poison ivy was finally starting to look better. The oozing was dried up and the bright red irritation was beginning to clear up. And within another couple days it was completely healed up. Is it possible that the chihuahua's saliva cleared it up, or is it just a complete coincidence that it just happened to start healing at the same time she licked on it?

  • What is the best bed frame to get for a queen size mattress?

I have a queen size mattress and box spring that are currently sitting on the floor. I'm looking for a good frame. Here are my requirements: Price needs to be less than $200. It needs to be crazy sturdy (I'm 6'4" 280 lbs). And it needs to not squeak or be noisy when activities that would make a bed squeak are happening:) I've had the cheap metal frames in the past and would like to avoid those. I like the looks of platform beds, but I'm under the impression that a box spring is not needed for one of those (which I'm not against getting rid of the box spring). But I'm open to a normal, more traditional frame if its sturdy and not noisy like the cheap metal ones. Thanks for any advice!

  • Is it okay to put a 650 watt dimmer on a 2000 watt light bulb?

I have a 2000 watt antique light bulb that I want to hook a dimmer switch up to. Is it okay to hook it up to a 650 watt dimmer even if I never plan on running the bulb at full intensity?

  • I found an old lightbulb at an antique shop that I'd like to power up. Need help!?

I found an old GE/Mazda lightbulb at an antique shop. It is quite large and very cool looking and has a huge filament in it. I don't think its ever been used and the filament all looks to be intact. It is a 120V 2000W. I don't want to run it at full power because not only is it 2000 watts and would obviously be intensely bright and hot, but that would be half of my monthly electric bill just to turn it on. The filament is also so large that I think if its not running at full heat it should last forever. So anyway, is there a way to regulate how much electricity gets to it? Will it light up if there's only like 100 watts running to it? Or does electricity not quite work that way? Thanks for any advice.

  • Are there any good kid's drum sets out there?

I'm looking for a good drum set for a friend's kid. He is 3 years old and I want to start giving him lessons soon. He loves playing my drums but they are obviously way too big for him to actually play. The few kid's drum sets I've come across are pieces of junk and seem like a waste of money. I'm looking for something with an actual hi hat and crash cymbal. I also want a basic 5 piece configuration (kick, snare, 2 racks, and a floor tom), just in a small size so he can reach everything. I don't want one of those cheap things that have 2 drums and a cymbal stuck into the bass drum. I've seen the Ludwig Junior drum kit online. That's the configuration I want, but not sure what the quality is like. Are there any other suggestions?

  • Should I purchase Series I Savings Bonds in two smaller increments, or one for the total amount?

  • What should I do with $500 to help the most people?

I recently came upon some hard times financially (car dying, big bills due, loss of one of my part-time jobs, etc.). Anyway, some friends of mine rallied and raised a little over $500 for me, which is truly amazing and a huge blessing. Even though my situation sucks right now, a lot of people have it a lot worse than I do, so I'm looking for ways of helping other people with this money. So I'm looking for ideas for the best ways to impact the most people with $500. I would like to keep this somewhat local (Michigan), because I'm hoping this could turn into a big pay-it-forward type situation, and I feel like when somebody is personally helped by somebody else, it gives a little more incentive to turn around and give it to somebody else (that's just what I think anyway). So if anybody has any amazing ideas on what to do with this money please let me know. Let's see what $500 can do. Thanks!

  • Trying to transfer an Oregon salvage car title to Michigan. Please help.?

Ok so this is somewhat complicated. Please read all the details before throwing out your standard transferring a car title answers. I moved to Michigan from Oregon. I happened to total my 1997 Buick (hit a deer) in Michigan right at that time. After I got the insurance stuff taken care of (Progressive totaled it and I bought it back for the salvage price), I went to the Secretary of State to switch my residency and transfer my car title. I told them it had just been totaled, so they weren't sure what to do since it wasn't in the system as being totaled yet. They told me to call my insurance company and the Oregon DMV. I called both of them and neither were any more helpful than the Sec. of State. Oregon made a suggestion to go ahead and still apply for an Oregon salvage title,so I did. I then bought a van, and now skip forward about a month and a half. My van just died and I just got the salvage title for my car a couple weeks ago. Since my car still runs I thought I would go ahead and get the title transferred and transfer the plates from my van. Well now I find out that since its a salvage title, I need to find somebody on this list of contacts they gave me to come and do an out-of-state salvage title inspection to approve the car to be driveable. I've contacted about 5 of the people off that list and nobody will even do the inspection. Not to mention it costs $100 to do the inspection whether they pass the car or not. I also found out that because my car is more than 6 years old, I didn't even need to apply for a salvage title in the first place. That would have been good to know because if I still just had the regular title they could transfer it without any questions and the whole thing would cost about $25 and I would be back on the road already. I really need a car like yesterday. Plus I'm under the impression that if I can't get it past inspection, I really have no choice but to sell it for parts, even though I was hoping to hang on to it as a backup car. Is there anything I can do?

  • Please help with this odd situation I'm in concerning the title to my car...?

I just changed my residency from Oregon to Michigan. I hit a deer with my car around the same time, and the insurance company totaled it. I went to switch the title over to Michigan, but since they had no record of an accident yet, they couldn't really do anything. And besides, if I was just selling it, the buyer would be responsible for registering this state, according to the person at the DMV. They said to call Oregon, just to be sure. So I called Oregon DMV. They said I needed to fill out an application for a salvage title and told me to talk to Michigan DMV about what they require for me to sell it. So what do I do if I decide to sell it? What do I do if I decide to keep it?

  • My van seems to be running hotter than it should. Should I worry?

I have a 2002 Chevy Venture with 200,000 miles. I just bought it so I'm not sure of all of its little quirks yet. One thing I've noticed though that makes me nervous is the temperature gauge seems to be on the hotter side. Don't know how else to explain this, but its divided into sixteenths just like the gas gauge and after driving for about 20 minutes when its really good and warmed up the gauge usually sits between 5/8 and 11/16. And if I turn on the AC it goes up to about 3/4. Its not in the red yet, but it worries me that its getting that high. Should I worry or get it checked out, or is this a common occurrence in 2002 Chevy Ventures? It does have a brand new water pump if that makes any difference. And the most I've driven in one trip is about 45 minutes on the highway, so I'm not sure if it gets hotter the further I go. Thanks for any advice!

  • I don't think my taxes are being taken correctly. Help please! I don't want to pay out at the end of the year.?

I am 26 and single. No dependents or anything like that...just plain ol' single. I work one job where I make $10/Hour and another job where I make $9.27/Hour. The first one is about 30 hours a week and the second is about 15-20 hours a week. I think everything is correct with the $10/hour one, but the 9.27/hour one seems like it isn't right. I'm getting taxes withdrawn for state, local, soc security but not federal income taxes. First of all, should I or shouldn 't I be getting federal taxes taken out? Secondly, how many exemptions or whatever should I claim at each of the jobs? Thanks!

  • Is there a way to transfer videos and pictures from one phone to another using a MicroSD card?

I had an LG Venus VX8800 that the screen died on and the half touch screen stopped working. I could still make phone calls with the keypad but that was it. Anyway, I have a few videos and a bunch of pictures on it that I would like to keep. I just got another Venus because I love the phone. So I was wondering if I could put all of my files on a MicroSD card and then use that in my new phone to access the files. I didn't have the card with the other phone, so all the files are just saved directly to the phone instead of a card. If that doesn't work, can the files be transfered by a tech person at a cell phone store?

  • Should I file for bankruptcy, or is there another option?

I am 26. I have a total of about $10,000 in credit card debt spread between 3 cards (all maxed on their limits). I make about $900 a month after taxes. The only property I own is a car which is only worth about $1000, and that's completely payed for. After figuring out all of my expenses, including the minimum card payments, I end up with about $50 a month, which somehow needs to be enough to get gas and groceries for the month. So obviously I can't financially keep going like this. Any suggestions?

  • What is the nutrition information for a serving of beans and rice?

I am going on a 40 day fast of beans, rice, and water to raise awareness and money for thirsting and starving people in third world countries. I have figured out that this beans and rice diet will only cost me about 25 cents a day. So after 40 days of that, I figure I can save about $300 on food that I will donate to some cause that I'm still trying to decide on. Anyway, I would like to know the nutrition information in a serving of beans and rice. Secondly, will this be safe for a healthy 26 year old male? And finally, should I take vitamin supplements while I do this? If so, which ones? Thanks!

  • Any advice on facial cleansers?

I am a 26 year old male and my face doesn't look nearly as smooth as it did 5 years ago. I know I'm getting older and I'm not going to look as good as I did 5 years ago, but I think I my skin could look better than it does. My skin is always dry and I don't like putting moisturizer on because then I kinda break out or my skin gets sort of irritated. My skin seems to be somewhat sensitive. Are there any soaps I should get for in the shower, or maybe a daily facial wash, or a facial moisturizer, or a night time face wash, or all of the above? Thanks for any advice!

  • What is a good affordable health plan to get?

I am a single 25 year old healthy male. Are there any truly affordable health plans out there for me? And don't say that $300 a month is affordable, because its not. I don't need any major medical coverage. I haven't had insurance for 6 years and haven't been to the doctor in those six years. However, my eyesight isn't great, so vision coverage would be good. I also want dental coverage as well. Any suggestions?
