  • 2005 Saturn Ion 3 rough idle worse with heat on.?

I recently purchased a 2005 Ion 3. The Alternator was replaced as this was "the cause". Well apparently it was not the issue or may have been underlying/unrelated. Plugs and wires have been changed.

    Symptoms:

    1. Idle is occasionally rough

    2. Idle is always rough if heat is on. It drops to close to 500rpm and will then jump back to 800 or so over and over. As soon as I turn the heat off the idle is fine. There are no performance issues when not at idle.

    3. If I rev the engine and then let off it almost stalls and then goes back to a rough idle.

    4. Lights dim when coming to a stop or when the idle is dipping down.

    5. I have had a couple hard starts in the last week

    6. There have been no check engine lights until tonight when Advance was checking the system. They went through their whole test and then the check engine light for p0506 which is idle too low for too long. This makes sense as we were running the heat and a/c.

    7. When driving down the road there are no problems until coming to a stop and stopping

Could it be the IAC? Could it have been the IAC the entire time? How do you check an IAC and How difficult is to swap out a IAC on these cars? What else could it possibly be to cause these symptoms?

I know it's hard without looking but there is a fundamental problem with a garage charging you $100+ to find out what is wrong and then the repair on top of it.

  • Is my Non Compete still valid/enforceable?

I signed a Non Compete as a condition of continued employment when the company I worked for was bought out. I signed it in 2004 in New York State. I completely severed ties with the company in 2010 and moved to North Carolina. I was hired as a new employee with the same company in 2011 without signing another non compete.

    1. Does going to a different geographic area invalidate the initial Non Compete?

    2. Does leaving a company and getting re employed without a new one being signed invalidate the initial Non Compete?

    Thanks in advance.

No I cannot get a copy of my non compete without arousing suspicion. No I don't have a copy as I was 20 with 2 small children and was told to sign it or walk out the door. It is what it is

  • Freestar/Monterey EGR fault?

I recently purchased a 2005 Mercury Monterey. I just had the plugs and wires changed today due to misfire. I got the van back, the misfire is gone and the performance is back to normal. The misfire was not throwing a CEL. 40-50 miles after the tune-up the CEL illuminated I noticed no difference in performance. AutoZone said it was throwing misfire cylinder 3 and EGR restriction.

Can the EGR system be cleaned through the throttle body or at all? I know these vans have issues with the EGR valve gumming up as the miles are packed on. If it can be cleaned what is the process? How difficult is it to replace the valve?

Could the EGR issue also cause a misfire?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Why did ford make the SHO faster than the Mustang GT?

In 1995 the Ford Taurus SHO boasted a 3.0L V-6 rated at 220HP yet their 4.6L V-8 in the Mustang GT only had 215HP. Why bother making your family sedan faster than your Sports Car? The SHO has faster 0-60 and faster 1/4 mile times. Just seems like a waste to me.

I am also wondering how a 3.0L liter V-6 can outperform a 4.6 Liter V-8. Is it because the SHO has a two stage intake and dual cams with 4 valves per cylinder while the 4.6 is a single cam with only 2 per cylinder?

I am not interested in Mustang lovers denying the FACT that the SHO out performs the GT. Raw spec numbers don't lie and neither do my drag slips. Just looking for someone with Engine knowledge to explain the reason.

  • Whistling noise 95 Taurus SHO?

Recently had the timing belt, water pump, front seal and crank sensor replaced. The car now has a very high pitched "whistle" I can change the pitch of it while in park buy pressing the accelerator pedal which changes it to the sound the radio made if you put cheap spark plugs in back in the 80's. I am thinking vacuum leak, intake leak etc.. could the mechanic have damaged a line or the intake while doing the timing work?

    any help is appreciated

  • 95 Taurus SHO, Good Buy?

It is the 3.2L mated with the AX4S transmission. I know the reliability of the Transmission is sometimes sketchy but I don't know much about the engine which I believe is built by Yamaha. I had a 95 Taurus GL and it by far was one of the best cars I ever owned. Any help would be appreciated

  • Pressure Control Solenoid Problem Saturn L300?

I have an 03 Saturn L300. They are known for having bad Pressure Control Solenoids mainly the 1-2 solenoid. Causing a fault when the Transmission doesn't shift fast enough and illuminates the Wrench Light causing the Transmission to go into High Pressure Shifts. All of the repair shops want to rebuild the transmission after taking it on a short drive. It is my understanding that the valve body doesn't even get replaced in a rebuild. Isn't there an access plate to get to the valve body without pulling the transmission? Does GM have equipment to diagnose that it is a bad solenoid without pulling the tranny? Other than occasionally taking too long to shift between 1 and 2 the tranny shifts fine, doesn't slip, I can sometimes go days without tripping the wrench light. I can also reset it by cycling the ignition and it won't come on again for days. I just have a problem with rebuilding a transmission that may just have a bad solenoid.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Bruising after Cardiac Catheterization?

I had a Cardiac Catheterization on Friday(Groin Insertion) and in the last few days (It is just after midnight on Thursday.) I have developed severe dark purple "bruises" One is to the left of the site about 5mm over and about the size of a half dollar. The other is about 10mm down the leg from the insertion site also about the size of a half dollar. They are very dark purple but are not very sensitive. I also have a yellowish bruise to the left of the site that is about the size of half of a dollar bill this one is sensitive. Are any of these anything to be concerned about? I do have some residual pain around the injection site and where the hip bone protrudes.

  • Can you split the XBOX AV cable?

I gave my son our old surround sound dvd player. The XBOX input for the Video has to go in the TV and the sound in the surround system. The cables do not separate far enough to accomplish this. The problem is unlike normal av cables you can't pull the wires apart on the XBOX composite.

My question is can I cut the insulation down on the XBOX cable to give myself more length to run the video from the XBOX to the tv and the audio to the surround sound. I know I can just get adapters to lengthen the audio cables but I am worried about lagtime and also don't want to spend money if I don't have to. I also don't want to start cutting into his composite cable and screw it up if it can't be done. My common sense tells me it can be done but I wanted to know if anyone has actually done it.

    Thanks

  • Trying to find name of movie?

It was a movie I watched with my dad when I was little and I don't remember much of it so this might be difficult. I originally thought it was 1984 but I watched the trailer and that doesn't seem right.

    Details:

There is a scene where they are walking through a zoo or museum and there is a stuffed housecat and the guide states that they lived with us and are now extinct.

There is a scene where a man and woman are going to have sex and the video screen opens in the bedroom with a government official telling them they are breaking the law or something to that effect.

I really don't remember much else it might very well be 1984 and the trailer doesn't ring a bell.

I was born in 79 and I was about 8-10 years old when I watched it. It was on tv or a movie channel so it had to be a few years old already when I watched it

  • How to connect a phone jack?

I recently had to move my cable modem to the living room as we bought a HD Internet TV. In doing this I had to ultilize the jack that was in the living room. There is now a crackle and buzz when using the telephone. I went and bought a new jack as I know the lines are good because there was no problem before. My question is the old wiring in the house has blue and white/with blue stripe and orange and white with orange stripe. The jack has black, yellow, red, green. What goes where?

  • Lag time on High Def TV?

Why when I am playing video games on the HD tv is there such lag time? I use a Gamecube with AV inputs and there is major lag. There is also slight lag with the XBOX even when using an HDMI cable.

What is the deal? Is there a setting that needs to be changed on the tv or do I need to guard my old school big box tv for fast response game playing?

My receiver for my surround sound no longer powers on and is out of warranty. I have an older receiver I would like to use but know nothing about home electronics other than how to plug them in and hook them up.

    Here are the details

Blown receiver - 250 W, 6 Channels designed for use with 4 Ohm speakers

Good receiver - 230 W, 7 Channels designed for use with 8 Ohm speakers

I will be keeping the 4 ohm speakers and want to hook up the Good Receiver. Will I blow the speakers and/or fry the receiver
