  • what to do about a bad back affecting exercise abilities?

    i'm seventeen years old at the moment and my back (especially my lower back) is really vulnerable to back pain. for example, if I sleep on my back then I wake up with a lot of back pain, and I can't bend over to do things for too long/too often or else I get more back pain. I find that when I exercise (doing squats, lunges, sit-ups, crunches [etc] and sometimes when I walk for a long time) it causes my back immense pain, to the point where I can't do any of the exercises that I listed (apart from walking) for very long at all without beginning to quiver from back pain (especially in my lower back).

    is there anything that I can do to reduce the pain, or are there any exercises that might not cause my back so much pain? thanks!

  • How to make a transparent animated gif?

    Like so: https://discussions.apple.com/___sbsstatic___/migr...

    I usually use Imagready cs2 (it came hand-in-hand with my photoshop cs2 download so I could also use photoshop if that works better) and I know how to make a non-animated image transparent, but when you're creating a gif is there a way to easily cut the background from the frames, or do you have to individually cut the backgrounds out of the frames? Help? Thank you!!

  • how to find heat absorbed using this reaction?

    2CO2(g) + 3H2O(I) --> C2H6(g) + 7/2O2(g) ΔH = 3511.1 kJ

    "how much heat can be absorbed from 5.0 grams of carbon dioxide?"

    and then, "how much heat can be absorbed when 8.0 grams of carbon dioxide and 8.0 grams of water are combined?"

    do i use stoichiometry for these? if so, what do I convert the CO2 or H2O to? Thank you so much!!

  • how to find specific heat of an unknown material?

    "300 grams of an unknown material is placed in boiling water. It is transferred to 100 ml of cold water at 20 degrees. the water temperature rises by 6 degrees as a result. what is the specific heat of the unknown material?"

    When i multiply 4.18 (specific heat of water) * 300 (m) * 6 (temp. change), i get 7524, which would be the amount of joules (Q), yes? But then when i plug the amount of joules into the equation to find specific heat --> 7524 / (300 * 6), i get 4.18, which is the specific heat of water. How do I get the specific heat of the material? thanks!

  • how to do this problem (using hess' law)?

    "Find the ΔH for the reaction below, given the following reactions and subsequent ΔH values:

    CO2 --> C(s) + O2(g)

    H2O(l) --> H2(g) + 1/2O2(g) ΔH = 643 kJ

    C2H6(g) --> C2(s) + 3H2(g) ΔH = 190.6 kJ

    2CO2(g) + 3H2O(l) --> C2H6(g) + 7/2)2(g) ΔH = 3511.1 kJ

    also, if you could explain how to do this one that would be great:

    "An unknown amount of copper (specific heat = 0.385 J/g°C) is placed in boiling water. It is then transferred to 200ml of cold water at 20°. The water temperature goes up by 15° as a result. What is the mass of the unknown copper?"

    for this one i tried using

    "mass = energy (Q) / (temp. change * specific heat) which my teacher said was correct, but i didn't know what number to plug in for Q?

    I have gone to my chemistry teacher numerous times and have also asked my mother's friend (who also teaches chemistry, but at a different school) for help and I can't seem to get these types of problems. If you wouldn't mind kind of explaining how to solve them, that would be really great, thank you!!

  • Why do my self injury scars hurt?

    I have stopped cutting and all of my cuts have healed and are scarring. I have been putting Bio-oil on them, but they still get really itchy and are not as dry or bulgy as they used to be but are still not hydrated or healing.. I have cuts on my upper inner-side of my arms and those hurt when I touch them. It almost feels as if they are raw when I touch them, but they are not.

    I also have noticed that on some of my bigger scars, there are tiny red veins in them. is this normal?

    Help, please. Thank you. xo

  • Where to buy indoor plants?

    I want to buy myself an indoor plant for my room. I was hoping to get a little bamboo plant. Are there any stores in the US (perhaps Home Depot, Lowes, or something?) that I can buy them at, or will I have to order one online? Thanks!

  • Do I have a reading disability?

    I am sixteen years old at the moment, and I have noticed that I am terribly slow at reading. I recently read 'Crime and Punishment' by Fyodor Dostoevsky and it took me about an hour to read about twenty-five pages of it (needless to say, it took me ages to finish the book). I am now reading 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' (Oscar Wilde, of course) and it takes me about the same time to read twenty-four or so pages. I also find myself re-reading lines over again by accident.

    I have also noticed that when I write, I often swap words around by accident (for example, i may write "today was day a quiet" instead of "today was a quiet day"), but I notice the mistake immediately.

    I don't know if that would have anything to do with the slow reading, but I think that I read much much slower than most people. I don't know if it's simply because I'm an horribly slow reader or if I may have some sort of disability or something. I know that this is the Internet so it's probably difficult to determine, but if anyone has suggestions as to what could be wrong or the answer, or any advice on how I could help myself read more quickly, that would be grand, thank you. x x

  • Short term remedies for sore throat (from purging/bulimia)?

    I do already know that bulimia is bad, that purging burns holes in your throat if done for long enough, that it can kill me, etc. I have been trying very, very hard to stop purging, but it rarely is successful.

    My throat has been hurting very badly since yesterday.. last night and this morning it hurt so badly that i could hardly drink water (drinking water did not help it at all) and it also hurt it to breathe. my throat has felt a bit better as the day has gone on because I did not purge until later this afternoon, and I just did a short while ago. It is now hurting more. I looked for sore throat spray at my local grocery store, but they did not have any at all, and I try not to use products and whatnot that are tested on animals anyways because I am a vegan.

    Are there any other things that I could do or use to make my throat feel better, even if it is only for a while? I have tried drinking tea, which did not work at all, and I do not wish to eat because I have eaten so much today already and am terrified of gaining weight and it's also ten o'clock at night here.

    I have read on forums and whatnot that gargling salt water or water with cayenne red pepper helps but I am not sure if those work and have never heard of using those as remedies, so I'm kind of hesitant to try those.

    Thank you xox

  • Will I be billed for ordering PETA's 'Cruelty-free Shopping Guide'?

    I have recently converted from vegetarianism to strict veganism, and so I want to start buying animal cruelty-free toiletries, etc., and was thinking of ordering PETA's Cruelty-Free Shopping Guide. On their website, it says nothing about being billed for it or having to pay for it, but I am wondering if they will just bill me for it later? If anyone has ordered it before, could you tell me whether there was any payment? (the link is here if you want to see details: http://www.peta.org/living/beauty-and-personal-car...

  • What do to if my dog got sprayed by a skunk? (house, car, basement, clothes, everything smells)?

    My family noticed that we had a skunk eating our garbage a few days ago and I insisted that my mother called pest control before the problem got out of hand or my dog got sprayed, but my mother didn't get around to calling them and my dog just got sprayed by the skunk because she found it while she was outside. My whole entire house smells and it's only been less than twenty minutes, this has happened before with the same dog when I was younger and I had to go to school smelling like a skunk. I have school tomorrow and I really, really don't want to go smelling like a skunk, but I'm sure that unless I take all of my clothes and stay at someone else's house (I would do that but I don't have anyone who would be willing or able to house me), the smell will stain my clothes, hair, everything. That's what happened the last time.

    Any solutions, please? I've basically gotten over the fact that the house will smell for the night and possibly tomorrow, and that I'll either have to skip school or go, reeking of skunk, but is there any company or something that I can call that can rid my house and clothes of the smell?

    Thank you x

  • Is it legal for someone to drive their dad (who lives out of state)'s car?

    My friends parents are split up and her dad lives out of state, but pays for my friends car, so on the title it says that her dad owns it and it's registered in the state that her dad lives in, but my friend drives it, not in the state where her dad lives because she lives with her mom. Hopefully that makes sense. Im just wondering, is that legal? Thanks x

  • Is there any quick way to convert a large .rar file to a .zip?

    Hi, I'm trying to convert a .rar file to a .zip file using Docspal.com, which has a file converter that I always use to convert .rar's to .zip's. This particular .rar file is very big (757 MB), and the converter is going terribly slowly. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can convert it more quickly? Thank you! x

  • How to tend to deep self harm wounds without visiting the ER?

    Today I cut myself very deeply, much deeper than I usually would. Only one cut is deep, though, the rest are quite minor and I know how to tend to those, but the deeper one is what I'm nervous about. It's on the top-side of my wrist, and it's at least a centimeter wide and deep enough to see fat in it.

    I really don't want to have to see a doctor or get professional medical care for it. No one knows that I cut (except my sister, who doesn't care because she thinks that it's "for attention"), and I don't want to tell anyone, and most likely won't tell, even if you tell me to.

    I know that cutting it wrong, so please don't preach to me about stopping or chide me for cutting, because all that does is make things worse.

    I've put a big glob of Vaseline on it earlier, because that was all I could find for creams or ointment to put on it, but I just went out and bought Neosporin. I've put a sterile pad on it, and my mom also has other sorts of bandages in her car because she's a hospice nurse and her job requires having that in case a patient needs their bandages or dressings changed. I looked in her car for ointments or cleansers, but there was nothing. I don't want to have to ask her and raise suspicion.

    Also, I want to shower tonight and plan on showering again in the morning, because I usually shower twice per day since it's hot out, especially with long sleeves hiding my cuts. Should I take of the bandages and let the cut be exposed to the water, or should I keep the bandage on and wrap it in saran wrap to keep it from getting wet? I really don't know what to do, I'm sorry, if anyone has suggestions, it would mean the world to me, thank you xx

  • What counts as ID to get into 18+ events?

    Hi, I want to get into an 18+ at Royale Boston in MA, USA, and the event allows only people 18+ with identification. I don't have my driver's license yet (silly, I know), and was wondering if they will accept other forms of ID, like a birth certificate? Thanks x

  • Issues with uploading .gifs to Tumblr?

    Hi, I've been trying to upload a gif that I made to Tumblr. When I try to upload my gifs as photos on Tumblr they freeze.The size of the gif is 3.00 MB and Tumblr says that the gif needs to be no larger than 1.00MB. The gif is 320px x 240px and runs for only a couple of seconds as is so it's already relatively small, so I don't want to reduce the size or length of running time for the frames. I have tried uploading the gif by inserting a picture into a text post but then a grey box shows up, which I don't want either. I also tried uploading the gif as a photo into a text post (+upload photo) but that makes the gif not play/freeze, like it did when I tried to upload the gif as a photo.

  • My guinea pig had hay entangled around his leg, cutting off his circulation. Help?

    Tonight I was cleaning my guinea pig's cage and I found that he couldn't move his rear end. His bottom was dirty from not moving at all, and I decided to give him a bath and at least clean him off. When I bathed him I found that his left hind leg was entangled by some long pieces of hay (I feed my guinea pigs hay frequently). My mom helped me cut the hay from his leg, but his leg is swelled up, his whole foot is lacking hair, and his leg just looks like it's in terrible condition. I don't know how long his leg was like this. I know that this is neglect and I feel disgusted with myself over it (i've been a vegetarian for 5+ years now, an animal lover for my whole life), but no one in my family noticed his leg until now.

    It's past 9:00PM here so no local vet offices are open tonight, so my mom is going to take him to the vet tomorrow. Right now he is back in his cage (bedded with clean shavings and a little nest of hay, because he likes to sleep under the hay and feel hidden). I told my mom that she shouldn't put hay in the cage because it was what hurt his leg in the first place, but she won't listen. I gave him some baby spinach and baby carrots because those are two veggies that he enjoys. I offered him his water bottle and placed him close to it so he (hopefully) can reach it. Is there anything else that I can do for him for tonight? Also do you think that he'll be able to recover from this? I know that there aren't many vets that specialize in rodents, and guinea pigs are all-around so fragile and delicate, so most vets don't do much to treat them. Thanks. x

  • Ordering tickets on LiveNation with a Capital One credit card?

    Hi, I'm trying to order concert tickets on LiveNation.com with a Capital One credit card, but it doesn't give an option to pay with a Capital One card. It has other kinds of cards, like Discover, American Express, Citi, etc. but not Capital One. Does that mean that I can't use a Capital One card to pay for the tickets?
