  • Oxalates in white tea?

I've just started drinking white tea and have thoroughly enjoyed introducing it to my daily routine, about 3 mugs per day. I find I prefer it to just about any other beverage and like to alternate between it and water.

Both of my parents used to drink quite a lot of iced black tea until they started getting kidney stones, which their doctor blamed on all the iced tea.

How does white tea compare to black tea in terms of oxalates? I want to avoid the kidney stone issues they had.

  • How do I keep the brush from returning to my backyard?

Every summer we have a shaded area behind our house that gets completely overgrown with high brush. There are trees all around and it's a fertile area for birds to plant things. I'm new to backyard maintenance; after I pull everything up, how do I keep it all from coming back every year? It's a shady area so I'm not sure sod would work. Do I plant dense trees back there or do I have to mulch for a few years? Any suggestions welcome!

  • How long after pregnancy can you use a belly wrap?

It's been a year after childbirth and while I've lost weight, my belly is still sagging. Would there be any benefit to my using a belly wrap at this point? I didn't hear about them until about a month ago.

  • Clomid side effects with anovulation?

In 2008 (age 36) I took my first round of Clomid for PCOS, 50mg (I think that's the unit), and fell pregnant that month. Now I've had my first child and am trying again, and once again on the same dosage. This is my first month trying for #2 and I'm 38 years old.

My temps are all over the place so I'm thinking it's anovulatory, but there are two places it's possible ovulation occurred. No sustained temp shift, though. My sleep habits have been wonky because of first kid so... you see it's complicated. I've had a few patches of EWCM and a few very-close-to-positive OPKs (like they might be positive but I'm too cheap to buy expensive tests.) One of the possible O dates was on the date I usually ovulate and did the last time on Clomid -- big sudden temp dip. But again, didn't shoot up above my cover line after.

What's confusing is that my abdomen around my uterus feels strange, like Clomid is definitely affecting it somehow. I have the full, bloated feeling like the first day of my period (not due for another week.) It is much stronger than usual so I really do think it's the Clomid.

So here is the question: am I correct in that I can be anovulatory this cycle even though I feel this side effect and this dosage has worked in the past? What are your thoughts?

  • I need a freeware multimedia file analyzer?

I've been tasked to review the many(!) sites on our campus to see what types of technologies people are using to present video. I'm expecting it to mostly be .swf, but I'd really like an app that would help me quickly tell if it is a .swf, or .mov, etc. The more information, the better. And I'm also trying not to download the video files. Does anybody know of such a thing other than having to look through peoples' code? Thanks in advance!

  • Losing weight 9 months after pregnancy -- not really trying?

After childbirth last May, I was still about 30 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight. For the next 7 months I lost very little relatively speaking, maybe 12 of that, and it happened very slowly. (Breastfed through month 4 with formula supplementation.)

Now suddenly at month 10 I'm beginning to lose a consistent half-to-2 pounds per week. I had started doing Weight Watchers several weeks ago and it helped a little, but I notice that the weight keeps coming off even when I go completely off of the plan for up to 2 weeks (possible pregnancy kept me from wanting to restrict too much and I was eating much more than my plan.)

Is this normal? It's like my body just decided that I didn't need the weight any more. I'm not complaining, but am concerned that maybe something is going on? I'm 38 so easy weight loss shouldn't be due to my age or anything.

  • Why is my skin is only oily when I wear makeup, even if the makeup is oil-free?

Does anybody have any idea why my skin would only act oily when I wear some kind of makeup foundation or powder? I've tried Bare Escentuals plus a bunch of other kinds, none of which have oil in them, and it happens in all weather. I use those oil face blotting sheets and they help but I need them a few times a day. When I don't wear makeup, I don't have the problem. What can cause this?

  • How do you track running conditions with beads?

I knew somebody who was a runner and he prided himself in ALWAYS running in any condition. He used beads to track his runs, a certain color for perfect weather, a certain color for rain, a color for ice, a skull bead for hazardous conditions, etc. I can make my own system, but if this sounds familiar to anyone I'd like to hear the common color scheme people use. Any ideas?

  • Getting over sinus infection, nose and face feel better, now getting bloody nose?

This is weird. I had a bad cold for a week which turned into a sinus infection (low-grade fever, stuffiness, lots of nose-blowing.) The day after thanksgiving it got really bad to the point I felt like I had been literally punched in the face on my cheek. Then the next day that feeling went away and I've been much less stuffy since.

Here's the weird part: now that I'm feeling better, I'm finding blood in the mucus when I blow my nose. Today I've only blown my nose twice, and each time there is more blood than the last time, just enough to color the mucus bright red. It's not coming from the front of my nose but farther in my head.

My throat feels fine and my chest feels clear, but now it hurts a little under my jaw on the opposite side than that which was so sore and tender the other day.

Anybody have any idea what's going on??

  • Breastfeeding: how to trigger multiple letdowns?

When pumping, I usually get a quick, initial strong letdown reflex but then nothing else after my milk stops running (about 4-10 minutes). Every once in a while I get an additional letdown that doubles the milk, but it's pretty rare and takes a long time. I can't tell why I sometimes get the second one.

Any ideas how to trigger additional letdown reflexes? I'm currently pumping every 3 hours and breastfeeding at home to try to increase my milk supply.

  • Round ligament pain after pregnancy?

I gave birth 7 weeks ago, and from time to time I still have round ligament pain. Not so bad that it doubles me over like it used to -- I had it very badly while I was pregnant and had to sleep sitting up as a result -- but bad enough to where it feels like the telltale ache and I'm a little careful how I roll around in bed.

Has anybody else had round ligament pain after birth, is it normal? I have a doc's appointment next week but am hoping to find out more beforehand.

  • How can I keep facial sponges mildew free in summer?

I have to use an exfoliating sponge (like a Buf-Puf) every couple days, but in the summer they are prone to mildew. I was thinking of trying to soak them in diluted vinegar to kill the germs, but does anybody else have any suggestions? Remember that it will be scrubbed on my skin so it must be nontoxic.

    Thanks in advance!

  • How can I make a bathroom cleaner without vinegar or ammonia? Perhaps citrus?

I have a new Rebath tub, and it says not to use vinegar at least full strength. Preferring not to risk it and also not wanting to use toxic ammonia if I can avoid it, and not being able to use an abrasive, is there some gentle recipe for a citrus cleaner or vodka-based cleaner that would work?

  • Can I store bleach in a cobalt glass bottle?

I'm starting to use bleach in water as a sanitizer, and I would like to store small quantities of pure bleach in a cobalt glass dropper bottle to make measuring exact amounts easier. I would not be storing the dilute sanitizing solution, just the pure bleach.

This cobalt bottle will be stored in a dark cupboard but used once a day to every two days. Will this cause the bleach to lose it's potency more quickly? Must it be in an absolutely opaque bottle?

  • Universal seasoning for grilling tofu?

I'm having a kebab party this weekend, and one of the options on the table will be pressed, cubed tofu. How can I marinate the tofu so it has some flavor, but can still be used with such different sauces as mesquite, barbecue, lemon pepper, mango chutney, etc? Is there one flavor that would be somewhat universal, or do I have to prepare a few different tofu options?

  • Single jogging strollers that can accommodate infant car seats?

I just need some recommendations for single jogging strollers that can handle infant car seats, probably the Graco SnugRide though I haven't bought anything yet. I've noticed that a larger number of strollers can accommodate them but they don't really publicize it for some reason. The BOB is a little $$$ for me, any less expensive options? What have your experiences been? I will be walking 5+ miles on sidewalk and gravel trails, and occasionally jogging as well at about a 10 min/mile pace. I'm a 5'4" woman. Thanks in advance!!

  • Capital One APR hike, anyone?

Has anybody else experienced the sudden radical APR hike from Capital One lately? For years I've had excellent credit and an 8% rate, and for a reason having "nothing to do with [my] credit rating" they decided to raise it to 24%! The exact same thing happened to my husband with perfect credit, and to our friends as well. It appears they just decided they wanted more money.

Of course, everybody I know is dumping the card (you can "opt out" of the change, they will close the card, and you can pay it off at the current rate for as long as you need.) Is this just a Missouri thing or is it spreading everywhere?

  • Pregnancy: pain in right ovary? 18 weeks.?

Hi, all, I'm at 18 weeks pregnant and I have a pain in what feels like my right ovary. I'm thinking perhaps ovarian cyst as I have PCOS.

I'm sure it's not a muscle pull or anything like that because I know what my ovaries feel like, and it started as feeling like end-of-period cramps that one sometimes gets. Plus, I only feel it at night or in the mornings when I lay on my sides or when I've had to hold my water for a while, but the pain is always the same. It's been off-and-on for about a week now, but never during the day when I'm upright and walking around.

Anybody have any information or alternate theories? It woke me up once with a yelp. BTW, it's only on the right, not the left.
