  • Dying my hair for Halloween?

I am going to be Rogue for Halloween, and therefore need to dye the front part of my hair white. I have red curly hair (read: generally dry) which I'm going to straighten (read: making it even dryer). I have an aversion to doing much with my hair (I very rarely straighten it, and use as little heat as possible, etc), so I want something as mild and temporary as possible. But, Halloween is very important to my boyfriend, so I really want it to look good.

What's the best way to dye my hair white for just one or two days? Spray on from a costume store? (Does this stuff even look good?) Temporary dye? What's a good product?

The only hesitation I have with the spray on costume stuff is that if I go out two nights in a row, I don't want to wash my hair (to get rid of the dye because it's gross) and re-straighten it, for fear of really screwing my hair up. Can I leave it in for two days, comb it, and touch it up the second day, or is it just really gross?

Thank you so much for any advice.

  • Can you help with writing a birthday invitation?

My dad's and cousin's birthdays are a day apart, and this year my cousin is turning 30 and my dad is turning 60. We are throwing a joint party. I am looking for a creative idea for the invitations, and also any creative touches we could add to the party, the cake, a theme, or decorations that could work well with this occasion. I am always impressed with the creativity here, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

  • How to reset a locked up iPod?

My iPod is locked up. It told me it needed to be re-formatted. After starting the re-format, it didn't seem to be progressing, and after 2.5 hours I had to unplug it. The next time I attempted to turn it on/format it, it does the "Please wait, battery very low" thing. After plugging it in for several hours, it lights up with the Apple logo, but won't do anything else. It doesn't respond when I attempt to turn it on.

Is there a way to "reset"? Even to revert to manufacture's settings?

  • Batch process in Adobe Photoshop?

I feel like once upon a time I learned how to do this, but have long since forgotten. I have several hundred pictures that were taken basically of the same thing/same lighting, etc. All these pictures came out quite blue, and I would like to change the color balance in all of them at the same time. Is there a way to do a color change to multiple pictures at once??

    Thank you!

  • Non-resident or part-year resident status?

I have 4 W-2's. 2 from MI (my state of residence), 1 from CO and 1 from UT. I did my CO and UT state returns, and only had to pay income tax on the income I earned in that state (by ratio of state income to federal AGI). When I go to do my MI return as a resident, how do I deduct what I paid to the other states from what I owe to MI? Or, do I have to pay 100% of my income tax to MI even though I earned that money in another state? Should I file as a part-year resident, even though I filed as non-resident in the other two states?

  • Which to claim: Tuition and fees deduction above AGI or Lifetime education credit?

I have a 1098-T with $670 of qualified tuition reported on it.

Should I fill out form 8917 and put $670 in line 34 of Form 1040 for tuition fees deduction, or should I fill out form 8863 and put $134 in line 50 for education credits?

I can't do both, can I? When filling out the questions on TaxAct, it put the $134 in the education credit spot. Is this correct?

  • Which of these 2 tents would you buy?

I'm having trouble deciding between 2 tents.

    Mountain Hardwear Viperine 3

    http://www.backcountry.com/store/MHW0625/Mountain-...

Only 1 door, 43 sqft interior, 14sqft vestibule, 57" int. height

    OR

    Kelty Gunnison 3.1

    http://www.backcountry.com/store/KEL0549/Kelty-Gun...

2 doors, 48 sqft interior, 2 vestibules, 12.5 sqft each, 46" int height

I like the height of the first one, but I like that the second one has more mesh and two doors/vestibules. Any opinions, experience? What are the things that you really look for when buying a tent?

  • 1099-MISC from bankrupted company?

I worked for a mortgage company in 2007 that filed chapter 7 and closed in 8/07. I received a check for 5% of the wages I was owed, from the liquidating trust handling the bankruptcy. I recieved the check in 2008. I got a 1099-MISC from the trust. They put the amount in box 7 (Nonemployee compensation). If I tell Turbo Tax I was an employee, it tells me they should have reported it on a W-2. If I tell Turbo Tax I got it from a lawsuit settlement, it says it should have been put in box 3 (Other income). If it stays in box 7 on the 1099-MISC I would have to pay self-employment tax on it. Did they do it wrong? Do I need to call the trust?

  • What can I do to make mascara last longer in the tube?

Is there anything I can do to make mascara last longer in the tube? When it starts to get to the end, it starts getting drier, clumpy, hard to apply evenly... of course running the tube under hot water helps tremendously, but then you're just worse off the next time you go to use it if you don't use the hot-water technique again. Can I add a couple drops of something in the tube itself? Will adding water to it and shaking vigorously just make it worse? Any tips?

    Thanks!

  • I'm not very good at making new friends, how can I get better?

I am 25 and after high school, didn't really keep in touch with many friends. I went to one college for 3 semesters, and then another to graduate. I made one good friend, and met my current boyfriend in college. Other than that, I haven't met anyone and have been drifting away from old friends faster than I make new ones. My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting married and it terrifies me to think about who I'm going to have as my bridesmaids... there's really no one that I'm close to that I'd need to be standing next to me! After college I moved to a different city for a while (with the boyfriend), but knew it was temporary so didn't really bother meeting anyone. Then I moved to a small ski town for the winter, but that's also temporary. I am trying to make friends and connect with people, but I always find myself alone and lonely. I try to always say yes when people invite me out with them, I'm a nice person, and am not always the life of the party, but I don't think I'm annoying or bring it down, either. I'm somewhat quiet and shy, but I sometimes crack jokes that everyone laughs at, and people seem to like having me around. But, very rarely do I get invited when they all go out. They have all been friends longer than I've been around, so I guess I get that, but how do I get invited? Then, when I say "Hey, you wanna do something?" they always seem to be busy. What am I doing wrong? What did they teach in kindergarten about making friends that I obviously missed? How can I meet new people and form real connections with them? It never seems to get past the acquaintance stage for me. What could I possibly be portraying that makes people completely overlook me?

  • How do you stop missing dating/flirting when you decide to get married?

My boyfriend and I are talking about getting married, and I go through phases of being completely certain, to being pretty darn sure, but nervous about never being able to date again. I miss meeting new guys, flirting, getting the attention of being pursued... sometimes I wish for the excitement of a first kiss again, or cuddling with someone new. I will never feel those things again. How does one get over these feelings? I feel very certain that I'm more happy with him than I ever would be with anyone else, and I don't feel like I need to look around to make sure he's the one I want to be with - I've dated enough guys to know that he's better for me than anyone else... but it's just the newness and excitement of a new relationship that I miss. Can anyone offer any advice?

    Thanks!

  • Christmas gifts for my boyfriend?

I realize this isn't a "Wedding" question, but I trust your opinions more than the kids in "Singles & Dating"...

I saw an answer from someone earlier this evening about a proposal, and loved the idea, so I'm trying to work something out for Christmas for my boyfriend.

Her suggestion, which I'm stealing... I want to give him a series of presents that signify important moments in our relationship: a t-shirt from the college we met at, a gift certificate to a restaurant that we go to a lot, a framed picture of Chicago because we went there together, something to do with ice skating because he taught me how to skate... etc, etc. But, what should the final gift be? We're not spending a lot of money on each other, so it can't be very expensive, but I want a final gift that's kind of nicer than the rest.

I believe he's planning on getting me a journal (because I told him I need a new one because mine's almost full) and an affordable, not very expensive promise ring (even though we're in our mid- to late-twenties and have been together for 2.5 years, we've decided a promise ring is a good idea right now...whole other issue).

I was thinking I could get him a promise ring too, but I don't know that he'd wear it... although around leap-day this year I told him I was thinking about proposing, and he said he would wear an engagement ring if I got him one. Do you think a guy would wear a promise ring if I were wearing one? I've already gotten him cuff links, a tie clip, a flask, we have lots of pictures of us and frames...I'm running out of relationship-type gifts to give him.

    Any creative ideas?? Help me!

  • What authors would I like if I love Nelson Demille?

What other authors do you think I would enjoy if I love Nelson Demille and Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child? I have attempted to start two James Patterson books, but they didn't hold my interest, although everyone seems to really love him. Are there any that are especially good that I should try? I'm not real crazy about female authors, but have read a few that are okay. I have also tried David Baldacci, and wasn't thrilled but also thought he was okay. Also read Odd Thomas by Koontz, and enjoyed it but it was a little edgy. I also enjoyed the Red, White, Black trilogy by Dekker, but didn't like his other books. I enjoy action and mystery. I LOVE Demille's sense of humor, especially his character John Corey. I only have a couple of his left to read, and the only one I didn't enjoy was Gold Coast, it didn't hold my interest. I guess I'm kind of picky about the books I read... if I really get into a book I will obsess over it until I'm finished, but it's hard for me to get excited about them.

    Who would you suggest??

  • Can I break my lease if...?

There was a shooting at my complex, and I no longer feel safe there? It's a nice, gated community, one of the better ones in the area (which is a nice area) but the management has obviously relaxed their requirements for tennants, because the quality of tennants has gone down severely in the past 3 months. Am I still required to stick to the lease agreement if management has let it get out of control to the point that there was multiple gunfire last night? I won't be able to take my dog for a walk at night alone anymore, for fear of running into the wrong people in the complex. Doesn't seem fair that I'd be stuck there. Any advice?

  • Can anyone think logically about this tax policy crap?

I cannot believe how much people are screaming about this! For goodness sakes, do you even have any idea what the increase is going to be, and how much people are going to be affected? Let me explain it a little bit for people who don't know anything about how income tax rates are structured.

First of all, ONLY the amount you make over $250,000 would be increased. So if you make $270,000, only $20,000 is taxed more, not the entire amount.

Secondly, the tax increase is 3%. That's it. Just 3%. So if you make $270,000 you will be paying an extra $600 a year. It's not like you're going to have to sell one of your fleet of cars, or take out a second mortgage on your 3rd vacation home. And for people making that amount of money, $600 isn't even a dent!

Thirdly, ALL tax rate structures are formulated this way! Rich people already pay more taxes than poor people do (percentage wise). For those of you like Joe the Plumber who say "Why should I be penalized for making more money?" - you already are. If you make more than $8k you're paying a higher tax rate than those making less than $8k. If you make more than $32k you're paying a higher tax rate than those who are making less than $32k.

    http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/article/0,,id=164272,...

WHY are you all screaming about it? And WHY do you all care because none of YOU are going to be in any way affected by it? A 3% increase for any income above $250,000 is not going to cripple the economy for goodness sake!

I cannot believe that this tiny little tax incease is such a huge issue with everyone? Have any of you read Obama's tax policy? There's other changes in it that are going to affect you personally more than this one will. Why aren't you talking about those changes? Because you don't understand anything about it except what John McCain tells you you should be upset about??
