  • Advice on guitar magazines?

I've been noodling around on guiatr for a few months getting stuff from the internet and a book, but I was wondering if people thought it would be good practice to get a guitar magazine reguarly to help me improve.

I thought one with song tabs and scales would be better for me than one more focused on gear so if people would reccomend getting one a suggestion of which ones would be most helpful would be appreciated too.

  • Do radio stations remaster old songs themselves?

I downloaded the radio 1 rock show podcast they played Shortest Straw by Metallica which was on ...And Justice For All, an album with pretty awful production and no bass to be heard at all. However on this radio show the song was much louder with some noticable bass coming trough, though as it was loader it sounded a bit more distorted than normal. Just curious to know if there are later releases for old albums to radio stations or do the stations do it themselves?

  • How do the payments work for Spotify unlimited?

Is it a subscription and they automatically take £5 out of your account every month or do you manually make a payment each month? Cause if I go on holiday or something I don't really want to just waste a load of money on it.

  • how do you mute a note as part of a chord on guitar?

what's the proper technique with what part of the hand to mute an open string when playing a chord? i'm not refering to a standard palm mute where you do it across all strings, just the one.

    for instance (in drop c):

    D| -

    A| -

    F| 12

    C| X

    G| 10

    C| -

what do you do on the lower 'C' string?

  • Any British metal bands?

I live in the UK and I find it easy to go onto music forums and places to find many American bands to my liking of all the types of music I'm into. But as I'm the other side of the pond it is hard to see them live. I'd quite like to find some British metal as I'm not really aware of any apart from the 'metalcore' ones which I'm not really a fan of. I find many British bands at the rock end tend be quite whiny or is fused with dance and I'd prefer to avoid those things. The metal I like I only seem to be able to find in American bands. I like stuff like Machine Head and Soulfly so the trash side of things is proabably to my liking. I also like rock, grunge, punk but my hard rock and metal only seems to be able to come from overseas. They don't have to be really new, but I am aware of the classics obviously like Iron Maiden and Sabbath. So bands closer to home which would be a bit more convenient and would do nicely :)

  • Is 'I Can't Believe' by Stone Sour really going to be on Audio Secrecy?

According to the Wikipedia page of Stone Sour's new album, track 3 will be 'I Can't Believe', presumably a remake of the classic song from their demos in the '90s. Does anyone know if this is correct? Or is it just a Wikipedia thing?

this is the link to the demo song from either the '94 or '96 demo:

  • Where did all the good punk go?

more to the point where did punk go? We are told we still have it in the shape of Blink 182 and Green Day, but come on! That's not punk! We seem to be told it is so people can go round saying they are all hardcore because they like Green Day. Imagine a face off between the Sex Pistols and Green Day. Refused seem to be the last real great punk band and the only (British at least) proper hardcore punk band at the moment is Gallows, who I think are an excellent band. Does anyone know any other good punk bands? Or is the only other 'punk' we have actually bubblegum pop.
