  • Poll: Have you ever been almost killed in an accident or anything else?

Have you ever been almost in a severe accident (car, bicycle, etc.) or anything else that could've killed you?

  • Poll: If you had a time machine, where would you go?

I'd go the 1980s (The Smiths, Joy Division, The Cure, Psychedelic Furs) or the 1950s. That must've been cool!

  • Why do many far-right conservatives want a government inspired by the Bible?

The fact that cons don't want gay marriage and won't allow abortion stems from the fact that it is against the Bible, right? I don't believe in God, but I'm not here to point my finger at Christians, I respect them. But how can you have a Bible-inspired government in a country which is free and was founded to preserve freedom of speech? You cons want freedom, don't you?

  • Syria cruise missiles: Bad idea?

What we are basically doing is helping the "rebels" of which an awful lot are fundamental Muslims who support terrorism. It is like when we gave Bin Laden's regime weapons to fight against Soviet Russia in Afghanistan.

What do you think? Good idea or not?

  • Do you think a diverse country like the US needs an Independent president?

Wouldn't it be better to have a president that agrees with both liberals and conservatives on some issues? Would that create a good liberal-conservative balance?

  • Conservatives: Freedom, gay marriage and abortion. How's that logical?

You say Libs don't care about freedom, still so many Christians won't allow gay marriage and abortion. How's that freedom? The only freedom liberalism despises is the freedom to freely own whatever type of gun without thorough checks. Don't you think our founding fathers would have liked the freedom of gay marriage and abortion in the society we live in today? I know it is against the Bible, but you can't use a Bible-inspired government in a society with freedom of speech and where lots of people aren't religious.

I'm not here to disparage any political opinion, because I'm a libertarian, and i promote freedom of speech, so don't go saying nothin' insultin' :)

  • Do the killers of Chris Lane deserve the death penalty...?

Or do they have to rot in jail while being raped and beaten on a daily basis by their fellow inmates for the rest of their lives?

I'm against the death penalty, so I choose prison time.

  • Why are most Christian far-right conservatives pro-war?

I'm a Libertarian, non-religious and anti-war. Isn't war immoral? How can you justify the death of thousands of innocents, and the death of our own soldiers (Iraq, Afghanistan)? Isn't that against your Bible?

  • Conservatives: What causes the US to be number 1 in gun violence?

The Chris Lane murder got me wondering, now the gun issue got more international. I think we can all agree that innocent killings with guns like these are very very rare, and that 99% of gun crimes have a motive, but still.

There is no developed country where gun violence is higher than in the US. Even Chile, a 2nd world country, has less gun crime. You conservatives don't want stricter gun control, because according to you that's not the reason. So, what IS the reason, then?

  • Would this be politically possible?

Imagine if the US would become a social state like Canada, or France, where you pay for social security automatically through income taxes (and other taxes). This seems a possible prospect in the near future for the US. Now imagine, that only the ones who wanted social security, free healthcare, etc. had to pay income taxes. Those taxes are of course meant to sponsor all the social programs. Imagine that you had to apply for these social programs, and that everyone who applied, needs to pay income taxes, which go to a treasury where they are meant to sponsor the whole community of social security, healthcare applicants. This would keep conservatives happy, as they are precluded from higher taxation (to which national social security would inherently lead), as long as they don't apply. What we would get is a country in which some people (dominantly liberals) live in socialism, and some don't (dominantly conservatives). Of course, sales taxes, property taxes, etc. would remain the same for everyone as they are right now.

Also, if it would be politically possible, do you think this would make a sufficient equilibrium between the liberal left and conservative right on the social security issues, as everyone decides for themselves whether they want it or not?

  • What political ideology do I have?

I took several tests online and the majority said Libertarian, or Left-leaning Libertarian, Centrist or anything along those lines. Still I want to hear what you guys and gals think:

I think that certain social programs can be good as a means to increase the quality of life, but there are limits; because I'm a big opponent of higher taxes (something that's inevitable with social programs). I am a proponent of gay marriage and abortion under all circumstances (because I see them as a freedom) I want much stricter gun laws, but no complete gun ban. I only advocate military intervention if the US or any of our allies is under threat. If it was for me, the US left Afghanistan a long time ago (imagine if all that wasted money was subsidized to infrastructure, healthcare research, cancer research, science, space exploration, etc.!)

I'm not in favor of trade coming from outside the US without implemented import tariffs, although these taxes don't necessarily have to be significantly high so they won't discourage trading too much (just a little "share", a little handout for the government). I also think outsourcing is only OK if it makes the products cheaper, although outsourcing without a product becoming cheaper is not prohibited by law (after all, we live in a free country, don't we?). I'm a big supporter of immigration, (one of my parents is one, and after all, that is what the US was founded upon; literally all Americans stem from immigrants), although illegal immigration should be enforced thoroughly.

I believe taxes are "evil but necessary", to pay for government services, infrastructure, etc. The death penalty should be abolished. Last but not least, I think certain drugs should be legalized, but not for public consumption.

  • What's the name and artist of this song?

I was watching this YouTube video lately:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0rMdjqNxMI

Does anyone know the name and artist of the song which starts at 1:12? I tried to Shazam it, but I couldn't find it due to the fact that the song continues in the background when the journalist starts talking.

Why do you think more guns will result in less crime if you consider that we have over 300 million guns, and a population of 311 million (over 96% owns guns already!)?
