My name is Gareth Parkinson, and I am 27 yrs old. I currently live in Wigan with my Wife Nicki and our two lovely children, Nikita and Bryce. I enjoy spending time with all 3 of them doing family things, like going for days out, or drives, or BBQs in the summer. I have an extensive knowledge of Baking as I have worked for Hovis for the past 11yrs. I also have Web Design knowledge as well as knowledge in all areas of computing and software engineering. I also have common sense, which from what I have noticed so far, is enough to get a few good answers in. I am also self-employed now after leaving Hovis, and am currently running 2 businesses. I also offer my Web Design Knowledge out, at a very competitive price to anyone who requires a website building, or re-designing. I can be contacted via email through Yahoo! Answers for such an enquiry.

  • Previously Broken Finger is killing me?

I broke my finger (middle finger, top knuckle just under the fingernail) about 2 years ago. I went to the hospital with it, had it bandaged, and it healed OK.

The past few days my finger is killing me again. It feels very bruised and sore. I don't remember bending it or banging it, but it is very painful.

Anyone have any idea what it could be?

  • how to stop water running from stone floor to under carpet?

Our kitchen has a stone floor and our hallway is carpeted. Where the two meet is an aluminum plate that is screwed down.

We have a puppy that sleeps in the kitchen at night and she is having "accidents" in the kitchen which is running through the groves in the tiles and into the carpet.

How can I stop the liquid from the kitchen running under the aluminum plate?

  • PC won't turn on?

PC was working fine yesterday, however the DVD Rom was needed in another PC, so I borrowed it.

After re-building, the PC won't turn on. There is nothing at all from the PC.

The computer is a HP Pavilion S7610.

There is a green LED on the back on the power supply, this lights up when there is power to the unit and is on static. But when the power button is pressed, there is nothing at all. No fans, no noise, nothing.

I have checked the cable and it is fine, checked the sockets and that is fine. Moved sockets - so supply isnt an issue from the socket.

I have removed the RAM, HDD, DVD and unplugged the front USBs but still it won't power.

The unit is a slimline, meaning the HDD is a 2.5 and the RAM is the small Laptop Style, so I can't put the parts into the other PC I was working on for a friend as this is a full sized desktop.

Since there is nothing going on when I press the button am I correct in assuming this is either:

    a) The CPU is fried

    b) the Motherboard is fried

There is no burning smell, no dark patches, nothing. But it just won't power on.

    Can anyone help?

  • Toilet not flushing properly?

When ever we flush the toilet, it doesn't flush properly. It needs a good 4 or 5 yanks on the handle to get the water to flow. Once the toilet flushes it us ok, but getting it to actually flush in the first place is hard work. Is this a fault with the flapper valve?

  • Why do bulbs keep blowing on one light fitting?

I decorated the living room back in September last year. The room is large and has two light fittings, each on their own switch.

I replaced the standard rose fitting in each room with a 5 bulb chandelier and changed the switches to dimmer switches.

I have had issues with the back chandelier blowing bulbs. The first time it happened it made the dimmer switch stop working. It now just turns the lights o at 100%.

I haven't had a single bulb go in the front fitting, but the back one has blown about 10 bulbs. Two have blown this week. They go with a pop, and only ever one at a time. The bulbs are standard candle bulbs at 40w each. I have used different brands - cheaper store ones, b&Q ones and Phillips. They all blow.

  • 2004 TDCi Mondeo trouble. P2263 - advice needed?

I have a 2004 Mondeo 2.0 TDCi in limp mode. The car is throwing up the fault code P2263.

So far the work done is: chnaged the fuel filter, full service, reconditioned turbo and actuator fitted, new MAP sensor fitted, termostats replaced, EGR and Inlet Manifold cleaned.

Any advice would be great as so far all the advice I have been given from the garage that took £650 off me is left the car still in this condition.

  • Do you think my Wife is Pregnant?

I ned the opinions of the masses on this one. I am aware this is asked almost every second on this site, and that there are a million and three morons that will be quick to savage the question by littering it with stupid answers, but here goes.

*My wife is 8 days later on her Period, and she is usually like clockwork every 28-days.

*My wife has sore breasts, which have also swollen - so much so that she needs her one huge comfy bra on.

*My wife has started to Lactate, not just a little, but quite a lot of milk.

*My wife has started to have cravings for things she would never normally eat.

*My wife has started to get tired more and more, litterally all day she is on and off tired, and ready for bed at 7pm.

*My wife's stomach is also swelling a little at the top.

*My wife is peeing a hell of a lot, about 20-times a day/night.

*My wife is suffering from nausia during the day too, along with bouts of heartburn too.

*My wife was suffering from headaches at night/morning too.

Looking on the net, the signs are there of Preganancy. We have been trying for 3 years and although caught once over 18 months ago, suffered a miscarriage.

Here is the bad bit though. We were anxious to wait for the Doctors Results which are due on Monday, so we opted for a ClearBlue Digital Test - This showed "Not Pregnant".

Also, my wife is on Anti-Depressants for the interim until we can see the doctor. Could these tablets mess up the results? Is it possible to be pregnant byt fail a ClearBlue Digital Test?

I am still sure she is pregnant. I can feel it deep down that we are. I can't sleep with excitement, and the wife can't sleep without needing to pee or having heartburn.

I could really use some reassurance.

  • How can I strengthen my shed?

I have a shed in the Garden. It was built by my Landlord some time ago, and was leaning to the point where the doors would open at will.

The flags which the shed was sitting on were uneven, so in order to get the shed standing straight on it's own, I have jacked up the shed using a Trolley Jack and placed wooden planks underneath. I have also placed wooden planks under the front frame, and one on the rear corner. The shed now stands upright and doesn't wobble when you get into the shed.

I have nailed all the panels to the base again, and to each other and this has given a lot more support than there previously was.

My problem is that the shed still feels flimsy, even after all the hard work I put in. It certainly is a lot better but it just isn't 100% yet. The rear panel has bowed out as a result of the shed being the way it was, and you can physically rock the shed back & forth or side to side.

I want the shed to be pretty much solid, and don't have the money at present to replace the shed. Therefore I need to repair and support this shed, but how??

What is the best way to reduce wobble in the shed and make it more solid??

  • Why can't we lose weight?

My wife and I have been undergoing some health & fitness in order to lose weight. My wife is 33 and is a healthy weight of 70kg giving her a healthy BMI. She wants to lose about 12 - 14kg for her personal comfort with herself.

I on the other hand am an Obese 112kg and my BMI is stupidly high. I am only 27 too. At 6' 1.5" the weight is all on my torso.

We weighed ourselves last Friday morning and were disappointed that after taking slimming pills and eating much less, we hadn't lost anything. So, my wife demanded we go swimming. I was dubious as I have very low self-confidence, but we went and really enjoyed it. 2hrs in the pool and about 1.5hrs of swimming in total. I worked out that I burned about 1300Cal's in that one session, and my wife about 900Cal's (using online calculators).

I know it is taboo to weigh yourself out of routine, but due to me working shifts and excitement because we have battered the swimming pool we weighed ourselves tonight to find we haven't lost anything. If anything we have gained ounces :(

    So far we have done the following;

    Friday: 2hrs Swimming

    Sunday: 2hrs Swimming

    Monday: 2hrs Swimming

    Tuesday: 1.5hrs Swimming

Also, my wife is doing 1hr of Pole Dancing every Tuesday Night too.

Why are we not losing any weight? We are still eating less and taking in less calories (I feel constantly hungry though, but my wife doesn't), and we have been exercising too. Are we asking for too many results too early?

It really is starting to get us down. Please help. We can't afford to pay for Gym Memberships, so we go swimming as it is Free at our local pool.

  • Low Sperm Count - Un-descended Testicle in the past?

    Hello

I recently went for a Sperm count at my Local Doctors. I submitted a sample to the Hospital Laboratory and the results came back pretty poor. My mobility is OK, but my count is very low. If I remember right, my count was 7million as opposed to the 20million average.

I am 26 btw, and married. We are trying to conceive after suffering a miscarriage in February this year.

We have found it difficult to conceive. My Wife has two beautiful kids from a previous relationship (10 & 9yrs old) and she is 33 and very healthy.

I have cut out the booze and am losing weight too (lost 1 stone in 6 weeks).

My question is, could my low count be linked to an Un-descended Testicle I had operated on when I was 7??

I would like to know what I can do about my count. I have been looking on the net and it would seem that 1000mg/Day of Zinc and 500mg/Day Vitamin C will help a lot, but that's quite a few tablets each day.

Any help would be much appreciated. My Wife was 4 days late on her period this month and we got very excited ... but alas it was not to be this time.

  • How should my extentions look?

I have had hair extentions put in at a salon in the market for £100 but the effect was very poor. I then went to my local professional salon who inspected the hair and told me that it would be £320 to get it right. Reluctantly we paid for the Salon to "fix" the problem.

The hair has been in a week and my head is full of sores and scabs from the extentions. Also, the hair isn't full enough. When it is in a pony you can see the difference where the real hair ends and the extentions start. When the hair is down, you can also see the layer of the real hair quite clearly over the extentions.

Now I am left with a dilemma as the salon said they will put an extra 15 in (which isn't much) but anything above that I will have to pay extra for.

They were supposed to fix my hair and gave me a price to fix it ... but it isn't fixed and is looking like it is going to run me a fortune every 6 weeks.

Any advice please. Should I have them removed and cut my losses or should I keep paying to have them topped up until I am happy??

  • Child Visitation (UK Only) - Where to start setting up some rules?

My wife separated from her Ex Partner over 3 years ago. They have 2 children together and he see's them infrequently.

During the years he has been aggressive, both before and after they split. Since the split, he has repeatedly insulted and threatened myself, my wife and my family.

The threats and the violence have gotten so bad that we had to move from Warrington to Wigan so that he did not know where we lived. My wife meets him at KFC Car Park every Friday to let him have the kids either over night or for a few hours. Last Friday he got really aggressive and threatened to get a brick with our names on and smash our heads in with it. All of this was in front of the children.

I don't go because of the effect that it has on the kids. When I turn up he becomes irate, and only wants to start a battle. This is not good for this children, so we have decided that the Wife should go because it then removes much of the tension from the atmosphere.

We haven't been to the police as my wife has wanted to try and keep it as amicable as possible, but this isn't working. Every now and then he also stops the Child Maintenance payments because of personal reasons for himself (needs to tax the car, or needs to visit his Dad in Cardiff and needs the money for fuel) and he has also cancelled it this week too (don't know why)

We don't want to stop him seeing the kids as he isn't violent in that way to the kids. They are however scared of him at times because of his attitude and his temper, but he never harms them.

What we do want to achieve is either supervised visits or a secure location for us to drop the children off and he pick them up. We also want him to see the children more often and more regularly.

We have contacted a solicitor, but even though my Wife is on benefits due to disability, we are not entitled to Legal Aid and we cannot afford the solicitors fees of £150 per hour. We have contacted CAB who seem very limited in what they can do for us.

What can we do? Where can we turn to? This needs to be sorted out, but how??
