Would it be offensive to wear a Native American necklace?
I bought a necklace in a charity shop because I thought it was so beautifully made, and the shop owner gave me the card that was supposed to come with it.
The necklace is a silver disc with a three-dimensional face of a coyote, which the card tells me is regarded as 'Brother Coyote'. I have been researching the stories and facts about Brother Coyote and find it interesting but I don't know if I should wear the necklace. I'm not wearing it purely as an accessory, although I do find it beautiful - I am interested in the cultural side too.
For any clarification, my father was argentinian+Japanese and my mother is Jamaican.
Thanks in advance.
3 AnswersOther - Society & Culture8 years agoMy sister is really upset because her school had a lockdown drill today?
My sister was on the phone to me earlier (i'm currently in london, calling to the US) and she was really upset because her school had a lockdown drill and she had a panic attack in the middle of it.
Now her school protocol is that if you're not in a classroom is that you find one and close the blinds, lock the door or block it with a chair and hide under a desk etc, most of the standard stuff.
My sister was in the toilet on a toilet pass from class, and the rule is if you're in there that you have to pull your feet up, lock the door and stay as quiet as possible (the lights go off) and she did, but started having a panic attack.
The drill was planned but her anxiety got hold of her, like she convinced herself it was real? I was wondering if I should tell my mom to notify the school of what happened?
Thanks, and sorry this sin't a really clear question.
3 AnswersPrimary & Secondary Education8 years agoWhat are some interesting character parralells I can use in my Post-Apocalyptic story?
I'm just writing it for fun, like recreationally, but I was wondering what sort of characters I could use to really show what humanity would be like in it's last days? Think along the lines of The Walking Dead. Most of those character's would never be friends if they didn't have to survive together?
Thanks in advance.
1 AnswerBooks & Authors8 years agoDoes this sentence make sense?
'Her smile hid a multitude of inebriation's' I read it in a book but it doesn't seem to make sense to me?
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years agoWhat's the expected social courtesy if someone else's child is hurt under your watch?
Let's say you were babysitting and the child fell off a bed and broke a bone when you were supposed to be watching them?
What is expected of you?
(This is hypothetical by the way, I'm a very capable babysitter!)
4 AnswersParenting8 years agoWhy do Jehovah's Witnesses deny blood transfusions?
I'm not trying to offend anyone here. I just want to know.
I recently saw a blood card and it had this quote from Leviticus on it saying : 'YOU MUST NOT EAT THE BLOOD OF ANY SORT OF FLESH Leviticus 17:14'
Does this mean they can't eat meat either? Or does eat not mean actually eat?
And please try to refrain from copying and pasting large amounts of scripture instead of actually answering, I won't understand it.
Thanks.
19 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years ago'Love thy neighbour' : Does this literally mean next-door neighbour?
Sorry if this is tedious to answer but does the term 'neighbour' actually mean the person who lives next to you or friend/comrade?
I'm not religious so I have no idea.
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoCan Jehovah's Witnesses not talk to you if you are under eighteen?
These two men came to my door three times today (the third time I didn't answer because I was writing my essay) and both times they asked if I was over eighteen (I've just turned twenty.) even though I had already said I was the first time. The first time I said I wasn't interested , and the second time I said the same (They were 'making sure') thing. Is it a legal thing that they have to ask by default? Because they definitely remembered me as the visits were spaced a few hours apart.
Also on a sidenote, the two guys didn't have anything with them - no clipboards, leaflets etc. They were dressed casually, is this odd? (This is just a pointless observation, it probably holds no meaning.)
Thank you in advance!
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoShould I organize a date for my dad and step-mom?
They've both been really stressed out lately with work and my little brother going to college etc. Just basic family stresses, and my step-mom confided in me she'd love to have some relaxation time so I was wondering if I should just get my sister to stay at her friends or something and book a restaurant? Would they get annoyed at me interfering? Should I just cook dinner and stick a movie on?
1 AnswerSingles & Dating8 years agoWhat's your favourite 'style' of writing? What writers have a certain style you like?
I prefer the 'spontaneuous prose' favoured by Jack Kerouac and Cormac McCarthy's way of matching words.

Just wondering. There's a constant battle between if they do more harm than good.
1 AnswerLaw Enforcement & Police8 years agoWhy do policemen/women always ask my ethnicity?
I'm not thinking there is any racism going on exactly but just wondering if it's a law to identify you or something?
A couple weeks ago I arrived late at a friends birthday party and it got way too out of hand and people were drinking etc. and the police had arrived over noise complaints + were suspicious of drug use or something - even though I had just arrived they asked me questions about how I know the host, if I take drugs etc. and then he said 'What race are you?' at first I thought it was just a random personal question (I'm mixed race -my dad is Argentinian+Japanese and my mother is Jamaican) but when I asked why he was asking thet he said 'Sorry, we have to.'.
I was once stopped and searched in a shopping mall with my friends because some other girls had been stealing and they asked there two, both times I just said mixed-race.
I was just wondering if it's an identification thing or do other people have this happen? Is it normal?
8 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police8 years agoI'm invited to a new years party but I don't want to drink? Please help?
Firstly I really want to make sure you know I'm not being obnoxious and judgmental, and I respect other peoples choices but I don't want to drink.
I've been straight edge for a year and a bit (I'm nineteen.), and I'm going my best friends New Years party tomorrow night which I can't get out of because I promised her + I'm staying at hers, and originally my boyfriend who is also straight edge was going to come along but he's going with his family's house and ugh... I just really don't know how to deal with peer pressure? I just don't want to be one of those drunk girls (I used to drink with friends when I was sixteen-seventeen but I hated it.) and I probably seem like I'm worrying for no reason but can anyone help?
Has anyone been in my situation? What did you do? Thanks :)
8 AnswersOther - Entertainment8 years agoWhat books should I get my brother for christmas? He likes...?
Me and my older brother have a tradition of getting books for eachother, it all started when he got me Lolita when I was 12 because his friend told him girls liked romance stories and he just thought Lolita was another romance novel, so it's a important tradition! I've already got him:
Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy
Fact Totem by Charles Bukowski
Now we usually get 3-4 books for eachother and I'm not sure what else to get! I was going to get him The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, but I don't know. Hopefully byt these titles you'll know what books could work. Thanks in advance.
5 AnswersBooks & Authors8 years agoI'm having my worst period yet?
I know all women go through this, but I'm been on my period for years and years and I've never had it this bad. I can barely move. I've got about a zillion pads etc up in there and I need to change it every half hour or so!
I WAS TOLD WHEN I WAS FOURTEEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE, TWO TABLESPOONS!
This is like two bathtubs!
ANY advice is appreciated, what makes you feel better etc? I apologise for the graphic detail too.
If it helps, I'm twenty now.
3 AnswersWomen's Health9 years agoWhat sort of things should I write to my friend in prison?
My friend is in prison for a year, I know it's not much but sometimes he has to stay in his cell two days at a time, apart from when they deliver food. I'm not sure why but he's only just in there this month, just imagine how crazy he must be going! I'm writing him a letter, letting him know what's going on and such but , if YOU were in prison what sort of things would you want to hear? Thank you.
9 AnswersFriends9 years agoIs it brothers of brother's? Which one is grammatically correct?
I really should know this. I believe it is the latter but when I write it it just looks so wrong.
Also what catagory should I put questions like this for future reference?
Thank you in advance! xoxo
7 AnswersOther - Education9 years agoI always dream of wolves? I had a really creepy one last night?
I ALWAYS dream of wolves. Even if the dream has nothing to do with wolves, I'll always see one in the corner of my eye or they'll be incorporated into the dream somehow. I know people say dream interpretation is nonsense, but if I dream EVERY NIGHT about wolves there must be a meaning? I can't actually remember a dream that hasn't had a wolf present in it. I'm not bothered but what could it mean?
E.g. The weirdest one was last when I was in a house with my boyfriend, we walked into a room and tehre would people sitting (in traditional victorian dress) down but not doing anything, he took my hand and we walked through but when we walked pass them they had wolf masks on? And they weren't doing anything. Then we sat on the huge bed and he said 'There's a wolf in the room.' you know in dreams when someone says something weird but you don't realise how weird it was until you wake up? Then he hugged me and said something like 'They won't hurt you/ I'm here' or something and all I could do was stare at the wolf over his shoulder.
2 AnswersDream Interpretation9 years agoWhat is your favourite oxymoron?
I guess mine is deafening silence. I can really realte to it. I listen to music so excessively that when I don't the silence is so loud that I can't concentrate.
