Ok so I was wondering, and don't take offense and don't respond immaturely. Believing that when you die you cease to exist kinda removes a purpose for existing in the first place, it seems to me there is no hope. So what is it that keeps you from being hopeless, that keeps you from turning into some crazy nihilist like friedrich nietzsche, what is it that gives you the strength to get up in the morning?

I've heard people say it's for their families and creating memories and helping society and all that but really when it comes down to it, what is the point of making family happy, of creating memories, and helping a society when everyone will inevitably die and all their lives would come down to non existence in the end, and a hundred years from now no one will even no you your family or any of your memories ever happened. It's like your fighting a losing, and purposeless battle. When all these things like happiness and love are temporary and will soon cease to exist, as soon as you feel something it's gone forever...you're gone forever.

I really am just trying to understand how it is to be in your shoes, what it is that gives you hope so please don't take offense

The belief that all religions worship the same God

Can I please have simple educated unbiased answers presenting what are some strengths of this belief and what are some of it's weaknesses

My friend has this under her religious status on Facebook and I was wondering what religion it would be considered

"I do believe in a higher power.There's too many everyday miracles for there not to be. but i refuse to believe that man could be given so many choices, only to be punished later for choosing wrongly. maybe it's all the same, variations of the same thing, and the reason why there's so many different religions is to give us a choice. To show our appreciation in a way which makes us happiest. Because, essentailly, religion is about expressing our gratitude to our "father", and using him as a guiding light. to live our lives right. and isnt that what we're all doing? It's a crude explanation, but it makes sense to me."

I'm preparing a sermon for my youth group and the basic outline is 'everyone asks the questions at some point in there lives of "who am I? What is my purpose? and in some cases "why should I even try? but we can find the answers in God" Any bible verses to help me?

what do you guys do at an atheists funeral? i mean like if richard dawkins were to die what would you do? would you have a preacher say stuff, would you tell the family 'they're in a better place now'? i mean what goes down? im not trying to insult you or anything im genuinely curious

i forget who said it but "There are many people who will die for what they BELIEVE is the truth, but no one will die for what they KNOW is a lie" talking about how the new testament is based on eyewitness acounts, i mean unless there were hallucinogens in the water jesus must have existed and he must have performed miracles or else people would have KNOWN at that time that it was a lie and christianity would have never gotten off the ground

it doesnt exactly help athiests think we're intelligent mature good people, also how do you expect any athiest to ever convert if you do stupid things like that do drive them away?
