  • help with hypothesis testing?

I have no idea what I'm doing with these kinds of problems. can anyone help explain them to me?

A company that manufactures engines for racing boats gathers data from all of its plants. The table below gives the distribution of the life span of the engines (in numbers of months) for the entire company.

    Months --- Percent

    Under 60 ---1.7%

    70-79 --- 20.1%

    80-89 --- 35.3%

    90-99 --- 33.1%

    100-109 --- 09.8%

A random sample of 448 engines from the firm's Ohio plant gives the following observed results.

    Months ---Number of engines

    Under 60 --- 22

    70-79 --- 131

    80-89 --- 46

    90-99 --- 154

    100-109 --- 95

At the 1% significance level, do the data provide evidence that the distribution of the life spans of the engines manufactured at the Ohio plant is different from the firm's overall distribution?

  • how much damage can happen I work out when really sore?

I've started working out with a goal of burning 1000 calories a week. 200 a day for 5 days. Well, it's day too of this week and I'm at 425 calories. My body is pretty sore and I'm moving a little slow, but when I work out, the soreness goes away and I don't notice it. how damaging is it for me to workout while being really sore? I'm primarily doing this for weight loss so I do a lot of cardio/toning and cardio boxing. No weights or anything. Should I wait until the soreness is completely gone to work out again?

  • Question using Chi-Square?

Really have no idea how to do this last question on my homework.

A person drilled a hole in a die and filled it with a lead weight, then proceeded to roll it 200 times. Here are the observed frequencies for the outcomes of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, respectively: 30, 30, 50, 38, 27, 25. Use a .10 significance level to test the claim that the outcomes are not equally likely. Does it appear that the loaded die behaves differently than a fair die?

Give the Test Statistic rounded to three decimal places.

The P-value rounded to four decimal places.

    State the Conclusion.

  • Statistics question? Pooled t-test?

Have this homework question, I'm thinking it should be done with a pooled t-test. But I just did one that was done withthe pooled t-test. I don't think my teacher would give more than one, of the same kind. Any ideas?

A researcher was interested in comparing the amount of time spent watching television by women and by men. Independent simple random samples of 14 women and 17 men were selected, and each person was asked how many hours he or she had watched television during the previous week. The summary statistics are as follows:

    Women Men

    1 =12.0 2 = 13.9

    s1 = 2.1 s2 = 5.5

    n1 = 22 n2 = 17

At the 5% significance level, do the data provide sufficient evidence to conclude that the mean amount of time spent watching television by women is less than the mean amount of time spent watching television by men?

    A. Give the name of the test you are using

    B. State the null and alternative hypotheses and give the value of a.

    Ho: a =

    Ha:

    C. Give the value of the test statistic rounded to 3 decimal places

    D. Give the P-value rounded to 4 decimal places

    E. State your decision to reject or do not reject Ho.

    F. Interpret your results (This should be the correctly worded concluding sentence for the hypothesis test.)

    G. Assess the strength of the evidence against Ho.

    Suppose that 4 ≤ f '(x) ≤ 5 for all values of x. Complete the inequality below.

    ≤ f(8) - f(4) ≤

I think this has to use the mean value theorem? But I can't really... figure out how?

  • help with the product rule?

In this exercise we estimate the rate at which the total personal income is rising in a metropolitan area. In 1999, the population of this area was 999,500, and the population was increasing at roughly 9500 per year. The average annual income was $30,388 per capita, and this average was increasing at about $1300 per year (a little above the national average of about $1225 yearly). Use the Product Rule and these figures to estimate the rate at which total personal income was rising in the area in 1999.

I have no idea how I'm supposed to get an f(x) or g(x) out of all of this??

  • my electric bill has spiked all of the sudden?

Went to pay the electric bill today and it is $600, when it is usually around $150. we have a 1700 sq. ft two story house, with full basement. we just bought the house in may. our first two bills were around $150 plus our deposit payments. now all of the su dden this bill is $600 and our meter reading went from 245 kwh to 3000 kwh.

how is this possible?! would an energy audit do us any good? our air conditioner stays at the same level, however, i did just go change the filter for the first time, it was disgusting, i'm hoping that makes a difference, but within an hour and a half our meter reading went from 61475 to 61477 (before i changed the filter) could the filter make that big of a difference?! this is our first time owning a home, so i'm just now sure what could cause this?

  • Origins of Christianity?

This is a question I'm being asked for my greek and roman culture class and I can't seem to find the answer because I just get a bunch of bible sites. Any history buffs here that can help me?

Briefly discuss the origins of Christianity. Where does the religion come from? What religious movements did it spring from? What factors originally hindered the growth of the religion outside of Judaea? How did Christianity eventually attract members in other parts of the Roman Empire? Discuss, in particular, the impact of Paul.

  • MATH find the distance from point a to point b?

Help with a distance math problem?

I know the distance formula and mid point but, I'm confused with this word problem.

A rope is attached to the bow of a sailboat that is 24 feet from the dock. The rope is drawn in over a pulley 10 feet higher than the bow at the rate of 3 feet per second. Find the distance from the boat to the dock after t seconds.

It shows me a triangle ABC.

AB is 24 feet. BC is 10 feet. and AC is the hypotenuse.

It also gives me a hint of sq.root{576-156t+9t^2

But.... Im not understand where that is coming from?

  • Help solve this equation?

I did this problem, but I'm not getting the answers in the back of my book.

    3x-2a=sq.root{a(3x-2a)}

    this is what i did.

    squared both sides.

    9x^2-6ax-6ax+4a^2 = 3ax-2a^2

    9x^2-12ax+4a^2=3ax-2a^2

    9x^2-15ax+2a^2=0

    and now i'm stuck.

    i'm solving for x.

and the answers int he back of the book are 2a/3 and a.

  • MATH How far from point B will you be when you arrive at point C?

I really need some help with this word problem. I'm horrible at them and I've been staring at it for an hour, can anyone help?

    Here is the problem.

    76. You are at sea in your motorboat at a point A located 40k, from a point B that lies 130km from a hospital on a long, straight road. While at point A, your companion feels sick and has to be taken to the hospital. You call the hospital on your cell phone to send an ambulance. Your motorboat can travel at 40km per hour, and the ambulance can travel at 80km per hour. How far from point B will you be when you and the ambulance arrive simultaneously at point C?

There is so much fluff in this problem that I just get confused.

    basically A, B and C form a triangle.

    ....A

    B C

    A is 40km from B.

    From B to C is -x-

From C to the hospital it is 130-x

  • math word problem help?

Hi, I'm stuck on a word problem for my homework tonight.

    It says.

A length of wire 16 inches is to be cut into two pieces, and then each piece will be bent to form a square. Find the length of the two pices if the sum of the areas of the two squares is 10 square inches.

So far, okay I know the Area of a square is A=s^2

and... I'm thinking that the length of piece one is X

and the length of piece two is 16-x

but, that's as far as I can get, can someone help me with putting a formula together or tell me if I'm even on the right track please?
