Situation:

I am moving to Ecuador,I need a dependable laptop while I'm there. I currently use a Toshiba with Windows 7, like Windows 7 because it's easy to use and forgiving.I need a suggestion on buying a laptop that won't require a lot of fixes for the next few years..I'm not a design engineer or a gamer, but I do require a camera for SKYPE.

I am also looking for suggestions on a scanner/printer. I currently use a Canon Pixma MG2520, love it for the ink lasting forever and it just works.. If there is something better, let me know. If it faxed for the two times a year I might fax, That's ok but not a dealmaker.

Please suggest 1. the laptop and tell me why and secondly the scanner/printer.

A tough question for me, but an easy one for someone that knows hardware.

I am moving to Ecuador, I have a Toshiba PC, which works great, and a Canon Pixma scanner/printer I love.

But I want to get new equipment for the move. I need a couple of real workhorses that won't need constant upkeep.

I know everyone has their own opinion (I just am not a Mac guy), about this but please be unbiased and suggest what you would based on nothing but performance and durability.

I need: Computer, need built in camera for SKYPE, and prefer Windows 7. I won't be doing any design work or gaming. Just something that can take what is standard wear.

Scanner/Printer, as I said I have a Pixma MG2520, great long lasting ink, no jams great. But I have a bit of a time scanning and sending, and it has no fax function which I might use twice a year.

I'm not looking for a local rep to hawk their wares, but someone that really knows. This is important to me and in this era, we all rely too much on our computers. Given the fact that I won't be able to upgrade on a regular basis, I need to buy right from the "get-go"

What reasonally priced computer can we get for her that can work with very little computer knowledge, is reasonably priced and that we can install a decent anti-virus. program.

Please realize that in her town, pc's can be fixed while no one has ever seen a Mac. I also don't mind buying a used workhorse. It needs a wifi capability and a built in camera. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

When I turn my laptop on, it says it doesn't recognize the battery. It works super when I plug it in, but does not charge the battery. I took out the battery, and put it back, same result. Any ideas? Thank you.
