What schools can I transfer to in California that have online science Bachelor's degrees?
I'm currently a first year Geology major student; I am looking to get a Bachelor's degree in Geology (or some kind of physical science program) --- I would like to eventually be a science teacher, but it would be cool to have open options, which is why I want specifically a science degree.
My issue is that I am trapped in a very isolated area in Northern California -- the nearest ok sized city/town to me is an hour and a half one way, the nearest bigger city is three hours one way.
Because of this, I am looking for a program that I can achieve a science degree online.... but I am apprehensive about going through many of the online only schools because I don't want to waste all that time and money on a worthless degree. But I don't know enough about the state schools in California to be able to figure out if there's a CSU or a UC that I can attend. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)6 years agoNeed some advice - what is protocol when your child writes in a library book?
When I put my just turned 5 year old son down to rest today, he snuck out of his room and into mine, and got a hold of one of the library books I'd borrowed for a project. He found some marker he must have stashed from his grandmother (I don't let him have them because of things like this, only crayons) and drew on it. Now I was able to wipe the cover clean and he didn't write on any pages with text except for the page with the book publishing information, but I'm really worried about this. He has gotten in trouble and had time outs for writing in our own books or children's books that were given to him or his sister, but I've never had him write in one that belongs to someone else, especially a library. What is the protocol for this? Can I buy another copy for the library? Are the fees going to be exorbitant? This is the book: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=h...
Thanks for your advice.
7 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoIdentify plant problem - strawberry's leaves have purple edges?
I have a strawberry plant that I obtained just a couple of weeks ago. Eversweet, I believe, is the cultivar. Anyway, I planted it in a strawberry pot. It's out in the yard where it gets quite a bit of sun (east side of the house), except later in the evening. This has only happened to one leaf, so far, but it does concern me. One of the plant's leaves has a purple tinge around the edge of the leaf. It looks sort of like when your plants begin yellowing, but it's purple in color instead of yellow. I'm just learning about diseases and things, and I am thinking it might be too much salt in the soil maybe? The soil in the pot was combined with some of the mix that I used for my transplants (90% Sunshine Mix #1 to 10% organic compost), simply because the soil here is not that great. Though I suppose it could also be because I planted a small borage plant with it too --- I am learning about companion planting and I was under the impression borage and strawberry were supposed to help each other's growth.
Anyway, any insight you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
2 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoWhere is a good reputable place to buy tulips?
I just watched The Botany of Desire, and I'm interested in purchasing a few tulips for my garden. But I have never purchased them before. I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a place online that I can purchase good quality tulips from a reputable seller? Thanks!
3 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoNeed advice about my washing machine?
I already washed a load of clothes fine this morning. Moved it to the dryer, then put in another load of clothes with soap and turned it on. It filled up with cold water... and then nothing. No spin, won't empty water out. On wash or any of the rinse or spin cycles. I would love to have advice for what can be wrong and what I can do to fix it. Thank you for your help in advance.
3 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoWhat should you make for breakfast when your kids are sick?
Kids (2 and 5), hubby and I are all sick. I am trying to figure out what I can make for breakfast this morning that would be beneficial to eat but not too painful -- can't really figure out what's wrong with the baby as she can't articulate speech yet, but the rest of us have sore throats and runny noses, and a pretty nasty, persistent cough that won't seem to go away. Thank you for your help.
13 AnswersToddler & Preschooler1 decade agoQuestion about ceiling mounts for flat screen tvs?
We have a 40in Sony Bravia flat screen that has been wall mounted at our house, but now we're looking into the possibility of some kind of ceiling mount (have to move it due to the fact that we're now using our fireplace, so it needs a new location) I'm looking for suggestions on what kind of good quality ceiling mount we should look into; we're discussing either mounting a bit in front of the fireplace at roughly the same level we had it before, or possibly mounting it in the corner of the room (which I would actually prefer as it's not as in the way). Thanks for your advice!
1 AnswerTVs1 decade agoAnyone know of Northern NY state property For Sale?
My family is looking to relocate -- we would like to move to a rural location, and we've been thinking about looking for property in Northern NY State. I'm most interested in the areas between Ogdensburg and Hogansburg, NY, but other areas close would be great, either on the US or Canadian side of the border. Hubby has relatives in Canada, and we'd like to live close enough to go visit them once in a while.
We'd be willing to consider other places as well if they meet our criteria (undeveloped land we can build on, some kind of water source, rural and private property, with timber on it with good soil for gardening).
I have tried to look up the Craigslist in that area, but it is either broken or doesn't like my computer because it won't load. Any help would be great -- we don't need a ton of land, a couple acres is adequate for our purposes at this time. Thank you!
1 AnswerRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoQuestion about a certain pasta type - looking for recipe help?
At the store the other day I picked up a bag of Filini pasta. I was thinking about using it to cook lunch for self and the kids. Only thing is I can't seem to find a recipe for anything but two soup recipes online to use it for, AllRecipes, and Cooks.com, have no listings (they think I misspelled the word!)
Have you ever cooked with this pasta, or eaten something cooked with it? Even just ideas would be wonderful. I'm stuck without a car today so I can't pick anything up at the store. I was going to use chicken breasts, and I have some veg at home here - just can't seem to find a good recipe to do so. Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoPOE to small DC non POE ip cams?
I have a smaller scale ip camera system, 16 cameras. I have a POE switch. These are not POE cameras. I only have ethernet cable running to all of the cameras. Is there some kind of adapter I can use to plug the ethernet cable into to tap the POE power and have an ethernet plug on the other side for data and a DC output for power.
What I am trying to say is I want to use POE and network on a non poe DC device. Thank you.
2 AnswersSecurity1 decade agoAnyone who has had contact with a schipperke?
Our family is looking to adopt a small breed of dog. A lady that frequents my husband's work (she has worked with many breeds of dogs) had highly recommended a breed called a Schipperke. I have been looking them up and they sound great.
I would like to know if anyone has owned or had any experiences with these little dogs? There's not any around me locally, so I will be "blind" so to speak if I go out of area to meet one. Any impressions that you got (good or bad) would be greatly appreciated, especially if you've seen the pup around children.
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoLooking for a Dog breed suggestion?
I have wanted to have a dog my whole life -- I never got to have a pet when I was living at home as my mother hates dogs and cats (nothing but finches). Over the past nearly 10 years that I have been living on my own, I have never lived in a rental that was ok with pets, until now.
My landlord has told my husband and I that we can have a dog (yay!) but it must be a SMALL breed of dog. Most of what I know about pups is bigger dogs, and not only that I have two kids (4 and 2). I'm a stay at home mom and so I will be around with my pup constantly... but I am at a loss at the moment.
What I am looking for is suggestions of what breeds or mixes I should look for that have a good chance of being good with the kids? Let me reiterate that this is going to be MY dog and I will be taking care of him/her, so it's not a pet I'm getting "for my kids." Any suggestions would be great; I would like to adopt an adult dog if possible though I am willing to train a pup if necessary (to have the kids and the dog grow up together, for lack of a better expression.) My kids do have experience around dogs, as many of our friends own them.
Any suggestions are gratefully accepted. I would just like to know what to start searching for as I will wind up having to drive at least 3 hours minimum from my home to adopt an animal (our shelter never has small breed dogs). Thanks!
7 AnswersDogs1 decade ago15 mo old bleeding gums? Need help!?
After breakfast this morning, I started to brush my daughter's teeth, when I noticed she was bleeding. In the back of her mouth, bottom, on her left side, there was a hanging flap of gum, and there was quite a bit of blood from it. I called DH at work to tell him; he thinks it might be her teething (I thought I saw little points in there too, but I can't get her to open up again so I can see)... but if that's the case I've never seen bleeding happen with either of my kids when they were cutting teeth before! I would like to know if this is something I need to rush her in for, as the dentist's office isn't open yet and they can't guarantee an appt anyway as they're so busy.
Thanks in advance
1 AnswerNewborn & Baby1 decade agoMaking a soup into a casserole?
I remember once having found a website that had details about making casseroles out of soups and vice-versa... but I can't seem to find it anymore.
I have some soup I made a couple of days ago (it's bacon, beans, and veggies - I think carrots, onions, peas, and tomatoes) and I'm trying to figure out if there's a way that I can make a casserole with it.
I have brown rice I can cook, and I have some egg noodle pasta... I just don't have extra $$ for a couple more days to go grocery shopping. I do also have a couple zucchini and some bell peppers and cilantro leftover that I can add to it. Any suggestions would be very gratefully accepted. My cooking brain isn't working in top-notch condition right now, as there's some stressful stuff going on just like with most other people.
5 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoQuestion about custody of a teenager?
I'm trying to help my husband's best friend (a wonderful guy, and a dedicated father) and his sons. they currently live with their mother [sole custody] but they desperately want to live with their dad for lots of reasons. his oldest is 18 but he won't leave his 15 year old younger brother behind with his mom and stepfather.
Now, I'm trying to find out if there is anyway for V to decide which parent he wants to live with, or barring that what the laws about emancipation are in CA. i grew up in Michigan [where my mom threw me out at 15, and my school was aware I was on my own] so I know the laws are probably different. But thank you regardless for any help you can give.

1 AnswerSecurity1 decade agoQuestion about baking a cake?
I have a cake pan that was given to me that I'm thinking about using for my daughter's 1st birthday... it's a really cute duckie pan. Except that there's a huge hole in the pan, right where the duck's neck is. It looks like it's supposed to be there too, it's perfectly round So I'm just trying to figure out how I'm supposed to bake with it without all the batter dripping out of the pan onto the bottom of my oven. Advice is appreciated!
2 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoNeed some quick advice, if you please?
I did post this in the Easter section but since we're doing it right now I'm hoping for a quick answer. My DS lost the box that our egg dye stuff came in so I don't remember how much water/vinegar to use to dye eggs? If anyone can help, we'd sure appreciate it (cause we're in the middle of doing our eggs right now!) Thanks!
3 AnswersOther - Pregnancy & Parenting1 decade agoFast! Question about dying easter eggs?
I'm dying eggs with my son... but he lost the box for the dye a week ago! I am just wondering.. if anyone has their directions, how much water/vinegar do you use with each tablet? I think it's Paas, and the pack came with little sparkly cups. If that makes a difference. Thanks, I appreciate the help!
