  • Female Names 'Nest' could be a nickname for?

It's fictional, so they don't need to be 'proper' names. I was thinking Nasturtium, but I can barely spell that. It's important to her mother (Maire) that Nest be called Nest.

  • Dyeing a natural color over fuschia?

I dyed the tips of my hair dark purple several times from February-early May and now I'm tired of it, so I want to go back to a more natural color. The purple's faded to a fuchsia-y color, I'd rather not bleach it, as it is pretty dry as it is. I want to dye my hair almost my natural color (orangey ginger) with as little damage as possible.

The purple's STILL washing out in the shower (and I haven't dyed it since the second week of May), because it's cheap stuff. At the ends, parts of it are showing ginger through the pink, but other parts of it are definitely stubbornly pink. I didn't bleach it or anything before I dyed it.

What's the least harmful way to either a. Get my purple hair back to a ginger state or b. Be able to dye it so it doesn't look quite so PINK?

Would this tattoo look awkward if I...?

got it and it wouldn't match my other wrist?

I want a tattoo that says "let go laughing" (in other words, siht happens) on my right wrist, but I already have one on my left wrist that says Home. I want it to face me. Do you think it'd look awkward? My other option is to have it start at my elbow on my left arm and run horizontally. Would that look less awkward? More?

  • How do I make an article possessive?

I'm writing an essay on an article called "Are We There Yet?". I want to make it possessive, but an apostrophe next to the quotes looks awkward. I would use just "the article", but it's my thesis statement, and I want it to be punchy. I've already tried "of 'Are We There Yet?'", and it doesn't make much sense.

Here's the sentence as it stands now: The point of “Are We There Yet?” is generally effective—to its intended audience. However, the argument is rather lopsided, and a reader who disagrees with its points would not find the article effective in swaying his or her opinion.

I can't write: "Are We There Yet?"'s point is generally effective or The argument of "AWTY?" is generally effective. It just doesn't sound right.

  • I need help (sort of) renaming a character.?

    Hi there.

So. I have a (brand-spanking-new) character named Kate. Now, Kate's a name I've held dear to me for a long time, trying to find the perfect character to give it to. And I've found her. Long story short, she's a dancer who (by some unknown method) is forced to become a lord's valet. Of course, being the sucker for romance that I am, she's going to fall in love with him, and he's going to discover she's a woman, fall in love with her, and they're going to live happily ever after. (His name is either Thomas or Peter.)

What I need is a name for her male persona. I don't necessarily want a direct male form of Kate (because there isn't one), but something that "feels" like it. I've considered Jack, which is exactly the kind of feel I want, but Jack just isn't right.

  • How to make a dress more comfortable?

I have a semi-formal dance on Friday, and so I got a calf-length dress to wear. Unfortunately, it's a pretty cheap dress (I got it for $15 at Goodwill), and as such, is quite rough on the inside. Especially in the bust area. It's strapless. But my strapless bra is long-line, and the dress won't zip up over it, so that option is out. I just wore it for about ten minutes tonight and realized how chafing it is, especially over rather sensitive areas.

As far as my sewing skills go, I can do it, but nothing fancy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to make this damn thing more wearable? Also, I am not going to drop 30 bucks on a new strapless bra that I would wear once.

  • Which name do you prefer for these characters?

Character A: She's a semi-divine trickster character. Actual age undetermined, but she appears to be late teens, early twenties. Long hair, usually mahogany brown or bright silver, depending on her mood. Blue eyes. Slender, of middling height. She's a sort of forest spirit, and a down to earth person. Scorchingly honest, to the point of rudeness.

Names I'm considering: Ceridwen, Fell, Larka, Morgana, Gwendolyn "Gwen"

Character B: He's a human hunter (he hunts deer and the like, not humans). Tall, broad shouldered. Thick dark blonde hair, grey-green eyes. A solitary soul, prefers the forest to the company of other people. He's eventually going to find and fall in love with A.

Names I'm considering: Thomas, Ari (AH-ree), Rook, Caspian

Character C: A and B's child, though they don't know it. She's a time traveller. About 20, short blonde hair, grey-blue eyes. Feisty and sarcastic.

    Names: Claire, Kate, Maggie

Character D: A and B's other child, came back in time with his sister. Dark blonde hair, green eyes. He's as much a forest spirit as his mother, while his sister isn't. He's shy, generally deferring to C's judgement. They're twins.

Names: Frey, Fell, Ian, Cian, Miles

  • Which name is better for a king?

I've a character named Fletcher who is a king, but I've realized recently it's not a very kingly name. He's a rather minor character, the grandfather of my protagonist, but in this family tree, family names are very important. His children are Jonathan, Raiden (always called Rin), Cecily, and Kellyn(f). His grandchildren (all Kellyn's children) are Rose, Kelton, Talia, Alyss, Moira, and Cecily.

So which name do you think is best for this character?

    Jonathan

    Terrance

    Edmund

    Edward

    Henry

    Richard

    Robert

    John

If you hate all those, any suggestions?

  • How to correctly say this in Latin?

I'm interested in getting a portion of the opening narration of Star Trek, in Latin, tattooed on myself.

    Either

"To boldly go" Ire fortiter or Ad eundum fortiter?

    or

"the final frontier" Finis Finalis or Terminus Finalis? I know limes can mean "border, frontier", but I prefer the "endless end" interpretation of frontier rather than a boundary or limit.

  • Did I use these correctly? (Thou, Thee, Thy)?

Thou should approach the king more carefully.

I see thee sitting there upon the wall.

Use the head on thy shoulders.

If thou desires to keep thine eyes, thou shalt turn away and never speak of this to any soul.

Also, should it be "that is mine apple and my castle" or "my apple and mine castle"?

  • What can Bo/Beau be short for?

I've got itchy character making fingers again, and I'm playing with the name Bo, for a girl.

She's feisty, and doesn't really care what you think of her, on the outside, but on the inside, she takes what people say to and about her very hard. She's 18 and has short dark brown hair and blue eyes.

Her twin sister has longer and lighter hair and the same blue eyes and she's either going to be named Elisande called Sanna or Idris called Riss/a.

Other characters are named Peter and Robin (boy).

  • How to lighten blue dye?

In the middle of January, I dyed the underside of my hair dark blue (crappy Splat dye over my natural ginger hair). In the last week of February, I did it again, finishing the bottle. I'm not yet tired of the blue, but I want it out by prom... (May 12). So I'm wondering if there's a safe and effective way to get the colour out faster. My hair is VERY healthy, I've only dyed that part twice in a year, and before that, I did use Color Oops to get a godawful pink colour out, but that was a year ago.

My natural hair is on top, and I'd like to keep it the colour it is. I've heard of using Prell shampoo to lighten the dye. Does that work on dye that's been in for so long? The ends of the dyed section are blue-tinted ginger to grey, and the inner section is BLUE. So, how can I lighten it?

Also, I am planning on dying it a darker red colour before prom to cover up the blue (maybe my whole head, but definitely the underside).

  • What would you name these babies?

I'm writing a story, and right now, I'm fleshing out the family tree, starting from my current characters and going back. I figure once I get two or three generations back, I can just open a bn book and go "that's nice, let's go with that one", but for my current generation, there's the grandchildren of my character, and her grandparents.

So the characters I need help naming are

a)The children of Rose Elizabeth and William Tannon Morgan. The children they already have are Elspeth Rose, Cole Adrian, and Alessandra Gemma. They have one more son and one daughter.

Rose's parents are Kellyn Rose and James Adrian Bennett. I need names for Kellyn's mother's family. (The title is passed through the eldest child, not the eldest son). All I know is that Kellyn's mother's name is Rose Heather, and that Rose Heather's mother is Heather.

    So, basically, it's

    Heather Cecily

    Rose Heather

    Kellyn Rose

    Rose Elizabeth

And I need to name Rose Elizabeth's other children, Rose Heather's siblings (two boys and a girl), and Heather Cecily's siblings. Any name flys, but for the most part, the other names in my story are pretty classic Anglo names (William, James, Elizabeth), with a Scottish and Irish flavour (Moira and Elspeth), but I'm open to French and Italian names (Elodie and Alessandra are two already in there)... :D

  • I need a good body lotion.?

A few years ago for christmas, I got Arbonne's FYI Mysterious Body Better lotion. It smells delicious, but I'm almost out of it, and I think I'll run out by the end of the month :(

So I need a new one. I like the thicker body butter type rather than hand cream texture. I tried Aveeno Daily Moisturizing, but I didn't like the texture or the smell.

Can anyone reccomend a fairly thick, good smelling, rather cheap body lotion? I have very dry, slightly sensitve skin (I get nasty rough patches on my upper arms in the winter). I like fruity smells (my soap is Dove nectarine and white mango, and my shampoo is HE raspberry).

  • Is this telepathic punctuation good?

First of all, I'm a shameless borrower. It's my first full length story, and I needed to borrow some. Telepathy sounds too SF, so I'm calling it Mindspeech.

Second, I've decided to punctuate it like this:

“Holy gods you scared me,” I gasped.

*It’s nice to see you too, Kell,* she said in Mindspeech.

“It’s been too long Sage. You were supposed to be home three months ago. What happened? And why are you using Mindspeech?” I asked.

*Long story. Essentially, someone got a little spell happy, and Ryson wasn’t able to give me my voice back. So, now I’m effectively mute. It’s just bloody lovely,* she said.

I hugged her and said, “Ryson?”

*My lover. We parted ways when Ryson decided to take a permanent post in a remote guard post. That’s why I’m three months late. I would have been later, but Ryson wouldn’t come back with me, and I didn’t want to stay.*

Note that Kell is speaking verbally and Sage is not. The things in **s are not italicized. That's my main concern, should they be, and is that punctuation enough?

Brackets make it too SF as well, and MS Word doesn't ***** at me for having asterickses where quotation marks would usually be.

  • Leggings ideas needed?

Going into this fall and winter, I'm updating my style to be a little more mature. I'm a junior in high school, and turning 17 in November. For the past four years, I've had Uggs every year. This year, however, I got a pair of light grey knee high flat boots.

I have a few pairs of leggings in dark grey, black, and hot pink. Not that I wear the pink ones. Most of my clothes are grey, brown, blue, green and purple, as I look terrible in bright colours. (Flaming red hair does not go well with red and orange, and I detest yellow).

Of course, I have plenty of jeans and other pants to wear, but I need some other ideas. Especially for what to wear with leggings. All of my shirts are fairly short, and I don't have anything to wear with leggings except one or two button down shirts and summer sun dresses. I hate the look of leggings by themselves, and I don't have many short skirts.

    Any ideas?

  • Glowlight Tetras and a betta?

I have a betta in a 3.7 gallon tank. I was thinking about putting in a pair of Glowlight Tetras... Good idea? I don't like shrimp, snails, or frogs, so it's fish or nothign. WDYT?

  • I have a 3.7 gallon tank with a betta in it... about the filter...?

I don't want to hear about my tank being too small for a betta. Please and thank you. I'm getting a heater in a few days, because the water is kinda chilly. Until then, I'm warming it at night by wrapping a blanket around it, and taking it off in the morning so Scipio gets some light.

It's a Marina Goldfish Starter kit. I use betta food (the pellets), and I'm getting him some bloodworms on Tuesday.

But that's all beside the point. It came with a small Elite sponge filter. It's adjustable. I was wondering if I should just leave it on low, or turn it off sometimes to give Scipio a break from the constant current. If I leave it on all the time, where should I put it (in the tank)? When I get a heater, where should I put that? (My tank is oddly shaped, it has a big curved front. It looks like this: http://www.southwestpets.com.au/Images/Fish/BowlsA...

So... Where to put the heater, and What setting to leave the filter on?

  • I have a new 3.7 gallon tank. I'm getting a betta tomorrow...?

Can I put anything else in? I was thinking like a cory cat or upside down catfish. But if they're going to get too big... Is there anything small that I can put in that the betta won't harass or be harassed by? Or is the tank only big enough for a betta? And does the betta need a heater (my room is kinda cold)? Anything else?
