I'm a single mom of an adult son in his 20's and adoptive "kids" Angel and Cookie, my two cats, sister and brother from the same litter over 10 years old. I wouldn't claim to be an expert on any subject, but I have lots of life experience in many subject areas. Give me an opportunity to answer your questions and I think you'll be happy with the response you get!

  • Mis-Heard Song Lyrics.... Which ones do you know and what are your favorites and funniest?

My favorite mis-heard lyrics are from the song "Metro" by Berlin. The first set of verses goes like this:

    I'm alone

    sitting with my empty glass

    my four walls

    follow me through my past

I was on a Paris train

    I emerged in London rain

    and you were waiting there

    swimming through apologies

The first several times I heard it, I swear that it said "swimming through a pile of cheese"... HA HA HA!

How about your favorite and funniest mis-heard lyrics? Please share!

  • Residential property being used as office space...?

The house I live in was previously a full residence, then the owners used it as offices. Since that time, the offices were closed and the house was again rented out as a full residence.

My question is this: would the owner have needed some type of Certificate of Occupancy each time he changed the property over from residential to commercial and then from commercial back to residential use? We are literally at the end of a block of houses, and right next to a strip mall, so zoning may not have been much of an issue.

Also, there is the issue of missing ventilation in a downstairs bathroom. The owners had sealed up existing ventilation and there is no window in the room. I don't know if this happened when it was residential or commercial use property, but I'm having an issue with it now because of plumbing issues that resulted in a major sewage overflow. No ventilation means that the mess and odor has no where to go.

Any answers on this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Have you ever had... ?

A doctor (or a medical student) ask to take photos of something or some condition they saw when they examined you? How did you handle it?

I just went to the doctor's for a physical and they had a medical student doing the exam. I mentioned to them a rash that I get on my skin when it gets cold, and in addition to examining it, the student asked if he could photograph it to present at class.

  • Would you rather....?

Have a very-well paying job that you hate to go to every day, or have a very-poorly paying job that you just love?

Which would you choose, and why?

  • It's raining outside, baby... What will we do?

I especially love a rainy day when I'm inside, in front of a roaring fire, snuggled in close with... my cats :-) Or that special someone. How about you?

  • If you could enjoy your next meal anywhere in the world....?

You have 24 hours and unlimited finances and transportation. Where do you want to go, how will you get there, who will accompany you (dead or alive, anyone at all), and what will you have to eat?

  • You need money... who are you going to ask for it from?

You suddenly find yourself in dire need of financial assistance. We're talking $1000 or more.

You don't have the means to obtain a loan from a bank, you don't want to get ripped off by one of those "pay day" loans or deal with the people that gave Gary Coleman all of those loans when he was down and out.

Who are you gonna ask? More importantly, who can you count on to help you out?

  • SURPRISE: You've just won the lottery... What will you do with your new-found wealth???

(Theoretically speaking of course. I couldn't even begin to award you such a large sum of cash, but...)

Think about it. There's so many things one could do with such riches. We've all dreamed about it. Now, what would YOU do with the money? Travel? Give it to charity? Pay bills? Buy something special for someone special?

Tell me, just how will YOU spend it?

  • What's that movie you can't see enough of??

Let's set the scene. You're sitting at home, all alone. Perhaps you're waiting for someone to come over and take you out, or maybe it's late at night or during the day, and you are BORED BORED BORED. You decide to turn on the television and flip thru the channels, and suddenly - THERE IT IS. Your most favorite movie in the world. Maybe you've seen it in theatres, or maybe you've watched it on TV a few times. You just know you have to see it again - NOW. Even if it costs you a little sleep, or your friend coming over has to wait for you to finish watching it to have some time with you, you're going to watch it. ALL of it.

Legends of the Fall fits that bill for me - it's got drama, romance, adventure, everything a good movie needs in my humble opinion (and current state of mind). What's your favorite, can't-get-enough-movie-of-all-time, and why is it so VERY addictive?

  • Men Wearing Shorts - is it ever acceptable in a more formal setting?

My son came up with this question. He wondered if it's ever considered appropriate attire to wear shorts in a formal setting? Does the concept of "dress shorts" exist, either in our U.S. culture or elsewhere? Any history on this if the practice does exist?

  • What are some suggestions you can make regarding insurance settlement?

My son bought a brand-new car just 6 weeks ago, and a week ago, the car was badly damaged in a hit & run accident. We got word from the insurance co. that the car is being considered a total loss.

The amount that the insurance company is offering is about $2,500 less than what we bought the car for (purchase price plus tax, license and registration only, not including the finance charges). They claim that the car lost a significant value when it was driven off the lot, but we can't buy a replacement with similar options with what they are offering.

What's the best way to research and negotiate a reasonable "comparable replacement vehicle" value? They definitely want to low-ball us and I want to make sure we will settle for an appropriate amount that will allow us to easily replace the car in the shortest amount of time.

If it makes a difference, I live in California and am dealing with UniTrin Direct auto insurance.
