  • What does a Insurance Company actually do?

I'm all for the free market, but what service does a Insurance Company actually provide? They charge a rate based on your previous health care record and if you are not considered "profitable" then they will not give you coverage. The average administrative cost for an insurance company is anywhere from 24 to 33 percent. Meaning that for every dollar spent on health care, an insurance company gets 24 to 33 cents. Meanwhile, in states like Minnesota, they have a administrative cost of 9 - 11 percent because insurance companies are not allowed to be ran for a profit. Sorry got a little off topic, I just want to know what everyone thinks.

  • A question about wine/bottle service in a restaurant?

I have been in the service industry for 9+ years. I have recently gone back to school and just recently started waiting tables at a restaurant again. I have done everything from bartender to busboy to manager. At this particular restaurant (Korean, Japanese/sushi) they are first time owners and they do not know what they are doing. For wine presentation they bring the bottle already opened and when I leaned across the table to fill the glass of wine of a customer who was cornered by chairs, the owner chastised me for leaning across and not picking up the glass of wine by hand and filling it up.

Now, this goes against everything that I know and have been taught about wine service. You are NEVER to pick up the glass. Now everything else she was wrong about I have found here http://www.eric.ed.gov/ERICDocs/data/ericdocs2sql/... But i have not been able to find a site that says do not pick up the glass.

I know this seems like some childish stuff, and I am mostly just venting, but for some wine drinkers the ritual is serious. Mostly I think it was her tone that upset me.

Please let me know I am not crazy, and if possible direct me to a site that has the proper procedures that includes the phrase "do not pick up the glass"

    Thanks ahead of time

  • Is the United States the best country in the world?

I hear the statement, "The Untied States is the best country in the world" all the time. It is usually used as an endorsement for some policy by some politician, both Dems and Repubs.

My question is: for those of you who believe that statement to be true, why do you/for what reasons?

For those of you who do not believe it is true, the same thing why/ what reasons?

I really do not have an opinion one way or the other, I would just like to hear some other peoples opinions...thanks!

  • Lets just say that humans do not contribute to Global Warming in any significant way at all.?

Would it still be such a terrible idea to agree with the Kyoto protocol and reduce pollution as much as possible? Or to convert to renewable energies as much as possible?

Lets just say that you are adamantly against the idea of Global Warming. If you could vote for this idea that follows would you?

Idea- In the U.S., we will place solar panels in our major deserts. We will place solar panels on the roofs of our houses. Every home will have its own windmill generator. A back up battery system will be installed that can run for hours if not days in the case of loss of sun and wind or bar some event. Only will electricity be shipped into your home if you cannot provide it from a renewable source. Electric companies will no longer be ran for a profit, they can only be Co-ops. Every car will be 100% electric and will plug directly into a wall socket into your 100% renewable energy home.

For or against? sorry so long

  • Is starvation ok in the bible?

Over 9 million children died in 2007, and almost all of them could of been prevented with just a little bit of money. If the U.S. is the greatest country in the world, founded as a christian nation, and we have the economic power to fix this, is it unchristian just to stand by and let these children starve?

  • Computer Question with DVD player?

I have a custom built computer with a samsung DVD burner that will not play DVD's. I have downloaded countless different codec's and different kinds of media players. At first my windows media player would not play anything at all. When i placed a DVD in the computer it prompted a window that said i needed to install a DVD decoder in order to work. After installing several different kinds, the video now works and background audio works, but the speaking dialogue does not.

To complicate matters, if a media file is converted to DIVX it will play just fine with audio and video. As well, old DVD's that do not have a menu prompt play just fine.

    Thanks in advance

  • The militarized Mexico border!?

During Bill Clinton's term as President he initiated NAFTA. Along with NAFTA he put forth Operation Gatekeeper which really militarized our borders and basically doubled the budget of the INS and border patrol.

Through NAFTA, American agribusiness went into Mexico and decimated the local peasant population that relied on farming as a way of life. They simply could not compete with American technology. Some sources state that as many as 1 in 4 have lost there farms and livelihood and had to go to the cities to beg or try to cross the border to get work here. I argue that this was understood by Clinton and crew ahead of time which is why they militarized the border.

So my question is: if our actions deliberately put Mexicans out of work in Mexico, do they have a right to come here and work?

  • I know it sounds insane.?

But shouldn't the democrats pander to liberal, left wing ideologies and not centrist values? Shouldn't their be some talk of living wages and god forbid such dirty words as Unions and Universal Health care. Is it just me? Shouldn't Democratic candidates speak about liberal ideas?

  • Help!!! I'm having so many problems with my dog?

Ok first to clairfy its a pitbull and she is about a year old. Its not my dog, its my roomates dog. He has the worst case of ADD of any person ive ever met. He cares about the dog but his life is chaotic. I just moved in two weeks ago. I take the dog running with me and am generally affectionate to her. When my roomate is here she sleeps in his room. When he is not she has a bed underneath our pooltable. She is constantly crying at my door in the middle of the night when my roomate is not here. I am the kind of person who is angry if get woken up and i have insomnia so i really cherish what little sleep i can get. If I put her outside she just cries and barks all night up to four hours straight. So my question is do you think its too late to kennel train a dog after its a year old? Whats the best solution to get a dog to stop barkin besides a shock collar? Can you reccomend a good book on training dogs after puppy hood? ty

  • First time dog owner who wants a german shepard!?

Sorry this is my first time posting a question. I've been thinking about getting a german shepard and a friend of mine told me there is an adoption plan for former K-9 unit police dogs. I kind of have this ideal for a dog and i want him to be obedient but not violent. Do you think this adoption is a good venue or training a dog from a puppy to be better?
